  • For better predictions and classifications in customer recommendation, this study proposes an integrative model that efficiently combines the currently-in-use statistical and artificial intelligence models. In particular, by integrating the models such as Association Rule, Frequency Matrix, and Rule Induction, this study suggests an integrative prediction model. Integrated models consist of four models: ASFM model which combines Association Rule(A) and Frequency Matrix(B), ASRI model which combines Association Rule(A) and Rule Induction(C), FMRI model which combines Frequency Matrix(B) and Rule Induction(C), and ASFMRI model which combines Association Rule(A), Frequency Matrix(B), and Rule Induction(C). The data set for the tests is collected from a convenience store G, which is the number one in its brand in S. Korea. This data set contains sales information on customer transactions from September 1, 2005 to December 7, 2005. About 1,000 transactions are selected for a specific item. Using this data set. it suggests an integrated model predicting whether a customer buys or not buys a specific product for target marketing strategy. The performance of integrated model is compared with that of other models. The results from the experiments show that the performance of integrated model is superior to that of all other models such as Association Rule, Frequency Matrix, and Rule Induction.

  • In this study, we compared the observed information matrix with the Fisher information matrix to estimate the uncertainty of maximum likelihood estimators of the generalized logistic (GL) distribution. The previous literatures recommended the use of the observed information matrix because this is convenient since this matrix is determined as the part of the parameter estimation procedure and there is little difference in accuracy between the observed information matrix and the Fisher information matrix for large sample size. The observed information matrix has been applied for the generalized logistic distribution based on the previous study without verification. For this purpose, a simulation experiment was performed to verify which matrix gave the better accuracy for the GL model. The simulation results showed that the variance-covariance of the ML parameters for the GL distribution came up with similar results to those of previous literature, but it is preferable to use of the Fisher information matrix to estimate the uncertainty of quantile of ML estimators.

  • In this study, the 'force density method' for shape finding of cable net structures is presented. This concept is based on the force-length ratios or force densities which are defined for each branch of the net structures. This method renders a simple linear 'analytical form finding' possible. If the free choice of the force densities is restricted by further condition, the linear method is extended to a nonlinear one. The nonlinear one can be applied to the detailed computation of networks. In this paper, the general inverse matrix is introduced to solve the nonlinear equilibrium equation including Jacobian matrix which is rectangular matrix. Several examples for linear and nonlinear analysis applied additional constraints are presented. It is shown that the force density method is suitable for form finding of cable net and the general inverse matrix can be applied to solve the nonlinear equation without Lagrangian factors.

  • The development of the FHT (fast Hadamard transform) was presented and based on the derivation by Cooley-Tukey algorithm. Alternately, it can be derived by matrix partitioning or matrix factorization techniques. This paper proposes a simple sparse matrix technique by Kronecker product of successive lower Hadamard matrix. The following shows how the Kronecker product can be mathematically defined and efficiently implemented using a matrix factorization methods.

  • The association of replication origins/termini with nuclear matrix during S phase was investigated by DNase digestion of halo structures in synchronized mouse LPI-1 cells. The binding of parental DNA to nuclear matrix was constant throughout S phase. When nuclear matrix was isolated from the cells pulse-labeled with 3H-thvmidine at various stases of S phase, total 3H-labels associated with nuclear matrix were specifically higher at So, Sa and Ss stages than other stases of S phase, suggesting that the newly synthesized DNAs at those stages are not excluded out of nuclear matrix. Similar patterns were obsenred from the pulse-chase experiments, in which cells were pulse-labeled at each stage of S phase and further incubated for 1 hr. These results suggest that the replication origins and termini are fixed at the nuclear matrix, and that the nuclear matrix binding fractions of DNA at 3C-pause may contain a large population of replication origins and termination sites.

  • Root coverage can be an efficacious treatment not only in aspect of dental symptoms like root caries and hypersensitivity, but also in aspect of esthetic problem. There are several predictable methods for gaining a connective tissue attachment to an exposed root surface. Among them, this case report will deal with three cases using enamel matrix derivative and connective tissue graft to recover esthetic and physiological periodontal environment and its form. This case report deals with three patients with gingival recession which has occurred by different causes. They were treated with de-epithelialized graft accompanied by application of enamel matrix derivative. 6-12 months later, all three patients showed considerable root coverage and clinically stable condition of healing. In conclusion, within the limitation of this study, de-epithelialized connective tissue graft accompanied by application of enamel matrix derivative shows stable and clinical acceptable results in aspect of root coverage.

  • This study intended to construct the brand switching matrix in the Korean casual wear market and to analyze it in various aspects. 1,014 sample data were collected in Seoul area, a center of fashion retailing. Since the respondents cited over 200 brand names as their last 2 purchased casual wear brands, 15 most frequently-purchased brands were selected for constructing the brand switching matrix. As a result of the examination, it was founded that the brand loyalty was dominant rather than brand switching in the casual wear market. Polo was identified as the leading brand in the market. Its brand equity, which was comprised of brand recognition, brand preference (loyalty), perceived quality, and brand association, was evaluated very high. Especially, the strength of Polo was the consumer's strong preference and the brand image of simplicity, naturalness, and neatness. After combining 15 brands into 6 groups based on the style and price, additional interpretation was performed on this 'trend switching matrix.' A transition of fashion trend in casual wear was observed. Applying the brand switching matrix on fashion products gave us much insight to the market.

  • Purpose: This study examined the osteoinductive activity of demineralized human dentin matrix for nude mice. Methods: Twenty healthy nude mice weighing about 15 to 20 g were used for study. Demineralized human dentin matrix was prepared and implanted into the dorsal portion of nude mice (subcutaneous), which were sacrificed at two, four, and eight weeks after demineralized dentin matrix grafting and evaluated histologically by H&E and Masson trichrome staining. The specimens were also evaluated histomorphometrically. Results: The demineralized dentin matrix induced bone and cartilage formation independently in soft tissues. Histological examination showed bone-forming cells such as osteoblasts and fibroblasts at two, four, and eight weeks. Conclusion: These results suggest that demineralized human dentin matrix has osteoinductive ability, and is a good alternative to autogenous bone graft materials.
