Performance Measurement of Split PC Sleepers for Safety in Maintenance Work (분절형 PC침목의 안전성 확보를 위한 성능평가 시험)

  • In terms of the speed-up of the conventional line, the research for a improved turnout was carried out continually around world. A turnout is known that it is the most unstable equipment structurally in the rail system. So, the turnout is needed more stable structure. An accurate assembly of turnout affects traveling qualify of turnout area and running safety. Therefore, a turnout which is pre-assembled at a factory by using the split PC sleeper is transported to construction site recently in advanced countries. In this paper, the performance measurements which estimate the safety of the split PC sleepers which are adopted for the first time to improve performance of turnout are implemented indoors. The split PC sleeper is one of components of the improved turnout. The test is considered of the worst ballast condition under the maintenance work as like STT(Swithc Tie Tamper) or MTT(Multiple Tie Tamper). These experiments results indicate that structural safety for the expansion joint of the split PC sleepers.

A Production Planning System for Assembly Process of Offshore Structure Modules (해양구조물의 모듈조립공정을 위한 생산계획법)

  • Considerable number of offshore platforms have been built in Korean shipyards ever since 1976. Unlike for the cases of building ships, however, negligible efforts have been made to establish planning methodology for building onshore platforms. Severe congestion has been shown in the processes of assemblying modules of platforms. The module which is the upper part of a platform is a steel structure accommodating various types of outfittings and machinaries. The production planned without proper consideration on allocating work loads by trade used to show severe interferences among trades of workers and resulted in delayed completion. In this paper, a method of planning module assembly in consideration of leveling work loads by trade is discussed. A system of planning has been formulated and tested on a exampled case of producing a mix of 72 modules. The test showed a possibility of saving 31% of manpower and trimming 11% of through put time.

  • Non-molding and welding line happen by the assembly of gas at the connector terminal. There is not good phenomenon of burr by increasing the over injection pressure, the temperatures of die and resin to prevent from them. Therefore, the connector mold to apply the vacuum molding system is developed in this study. The vacuum pressure is controlled systematically with the optimum conditions in the important ingredients of injection molding that are the temperatures of melting resin and die and cooling condition. The badness in charging is cleared by making a vacuum to non-charging part of the deep bottom part of each cavity. And the vacuum system to reduce the cycle time is applied as the study envelopment of molding work. So, the good product and the productivity improvement can be obtained in this study.

  • Since mold industries are regarded as belonging to three types of bad business, capable young people are reluctant to work in this field. The industries are hard to employ skilled workers who have much experience and knowledge On the mold manufacturing. Thus, effective CAM systems are required for unskilled workers to create process plans and NC data for the manufacturing, and process plans play important roles in the downstream manufacturing processes, such as NC machining, polishing, and final assembly. This study proposes a decision support system that facilitates unskilled workers to easily select high quality NC-data, as well as to increase productivity. The proposed system is assumed to follow a CAM operation scenario that consists of next three steps: 1) identifying several process plans and enumerating feasible unit machining operations (UMOs) from material and part surface information, 2) creating all feasible NC-data based on UMOs using a commercial CAM system, 3) selecting the best NC data among the feasible NC data using four screening criteria, such as machining accuracy, machining allowance, cutting load, and processing time. A case study on the machining of a camera core mold is provided to demonstrate the proposed system.

  • In this research, for the first time, a new optimization method, i.e., strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm II (SPEA-II), is developed for the burnable poison placement (BPP) optimization of a nuclear reactor core. In the BPP problem, an optimized placement map of fuel assemblies with burnable poison is searched for a given core loading pattern according to defined objectives. In this work, SPEA-II coupled with a nodal expansion code is used for solving the BPP problem of Kraftwerk Union AG (KWU) pressurized water reactor. Our optimization goal for the BPP is to achieve a greater multiplication factor ($K_{eff}$) for gaining possible longer operation cycles along with more flattening of fuel assembly relative power distribution, considering a safety constraint on the radial power peaking factor. For appraising the proposed methodology, the basic approach, i.e., SPEA, is also developed in order to compare obtained results. In general, results reveal the acceptance performance and high strength of SPEA, particularly its new version, i.e., SPEA-II, in achieving a semioptimized loading pattern for the BPP optimization of KWU pressurized water reactor.

Free vibration analysis of rotating tapered blades using Fourier-p superelement

  • A numerically efficient superelement is proposed as a low degree of freedom model for dynamic analysis of rotating tapered beams. The element uses a combination of polynomials and trigonometric functions as shape functions in what is also called the Fourier-p approach. Only a single element is needed to obtain good modal frequency prediction with the analysis and assembly time being considerably less than for conventional elements. The superelement also allows an easy incorporation of polynomial variations of mass and stiffness properties typically used to model helicopter and wind turbine blades. Comparable results are obtained using one superelement with only 14 degrees of freedom compared to 50 conventional finite elements with cubic shape functions with a total of 100 degrees of freedom for a rotating cantilever beam. Excellent agreement is also shown with results from the published literature for uniform and tapered beams with cantilever and hinged boundary conditions. The element developed in this work can be used to model rotating beam substructures as a part of complete finite element model of helicopters and wind turbines.

Indirect Adaptive Decentralized Learning Control based Error Wave Propagation of the Vertical Multiple Dynamic Systems (수직다물체시스템의 오차파형전달방식 간접적응형 분산학습제어)

  • The learning control develops controllers that learn to improve their performance at executing a given task, based on experience performing this specific task. In a previous work, the authors presented an iterative precision of linear decentralized learning control based on p-integrated learning method for the vertical dynamic multiple systems. This paper develops an indirect decentralized learning control based on adaptive control method. The original motivation of the teaming control field was teaming in robots doing repetitive tasks such as on an assembly line. This paper starts with decentralized discrete time systems, and progresses to the robot application, modeling the robot as a time varying linear system in the neighborhood of the nominal trajectory, and using the usual robot controllers that are decentralized, treating each link as if it is independent of any coupling with other links. Error wave propagation method will show up in the numerical simulation for five-bar linkage as a vertical dynamic robot. The methods of learning system are shown up for the iterative precision of each link at each time step in repetition domain. Those can be helped to apply to the vertical multiple dynamic systems for precision quality assurance in the industrial robots and medical equipments.

  • Infrastructure engineering is a field that supports construction (assembly) as a representative industry that creates high added value and jobs by combining science and technology with knowledge, though its importance is underestimated. According to a report from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Korea), the value-added rate (65.3%) of the engineering industry and the employment inducement coefficient (14 employees per billion won) are three times higher than in manufacturing. In particular,the forward value chain (such as project management and basic design) accounts for less than 10~15% of the total project cost but determines the overall price and quality of the infrastructure facilities. In this study, a work break-down system, design support module and database development method for road design projects for design platform development is presented. Based on the presented development method, a cloud-based infrastructure design platform's prototype is developed. The developed infrastructure engineering platform is expected to provide a web-based design work environment without time/space restrictions and greatly contribute to winning overseas business orders and securing competitiveness.

A Systems Engineering Approach to Multi-Physics Analysis of a CEA Withdrawal Accident

  • Deterministic accident analysis plays a central role in the nuclear power plant (NPP) safety evaluation and licensing process. Traditionally the conservative approach opted for the point kinetics model, expressing the reactor core parameters in the form of reactivity and power tables. However, with the current advances in computational power, high fidelity multi-physics simulations using real-time code coupling, can provide more detailed core behavior and hence more realistic plant's response. This is particularly relevant for transients where the core is undergoing reactivity anomalies and uneven power distributions with strong feedback mechanisms, such as reactivity initiated accidents (RIAs). This work addresses a RIA, specifically a control element assembly (CEA) withdrawal at power, using the multi-physics analysis tool RELAP5/MOD 3.4/3DKIN. The thermal-hydraulics (TH) code, RELAP5, is internally coupled with the nodal kinetics (NK) code, 3DKIN, and both codes exchange relevant data to model the nuclear power plant (NPP) response as the CEA is withdrawn from the core. The coupled model is more representative of the complex interactions between the thermal-hydraulics and neutronics; therefore the results obtained using a multi-physics simulation provide a larger safety margin and hence more operational flexibility compared to those of the point kinetics model reported in the safety analysis report for APR1400. The systems engineering approach is used to guide the development of the work ensuring a systematic and more efficient execution.
