  • This study explores the compression molding of diffractive-aspheric lenses using GeSbSe chalcogenide glasses. A mold core with diffractive structure was prepared and a chalcogenide glass lens was molded at various temperatures using the corresponding core. The effect of molding temperature on the transcription characteristics of diffractive structure was examined, by measuring and comparing the diffractive structure between the mold core and the molded chalcogenide glass lens using a microscope and a white light interferometer. In addition, the applicability of the molded lens for thermal imaging was evaluated, by measuring the form error.

  • The aspheric lens has become the most popular optical component used in various optical devices such as digital cameras, pick-up lenses, printers, copiers etc. Using aspheric lenses not only miniaturizes and reduces the weight of products, but also lower prices and higher field angles can be realized. Additionally, plastic lenses are being changed to glass lenses more recently because of low accuracy, low acid-resistance and low thermal-resistance in the plastic lenses. Currently, one fabrication method of glass lenses is using a glass-mold method with a high precision mold core for mass production. In this paper, DOE (Design Of Experiments) and compensation machining were adopted to improve the surface roughness and the form accuracy of the mold core. The DOE has been done in order to discover the optimal grinding conditions which minimize the surface roughness with factors such as work spindle revolution, turbine spindle revolution, federate and cutting depth. And the compensation machining is used to generate high form accuracy of the mold core. From various experiments and analyses, we could obtain the best surface roughness 5 nm in Ra, form accuracy $0.167\;{\mu}m$ in PV.

  • In this research, the optimal grinding condition has been obtained by design of experiment (DOE) fur the development of aspheric lens for the 3 Mega Pixel, 2.5x optical zoom camera-phone module. Also, the tungsten carbide (WC) mold was processed by the method of ultra precision grinding under this optimal grinding condition. The influence of diamond-liked carbon (DLC) coating on form accuracy (PV) and surface roughness (Ra) of the mold was evaluated through measurements after DCL coating using ion plating on the ground mold. Also, aspheric glass lenses were molded, some before DLC coating of the mold and some after the DLC coating. The optical characteristics of each sample, molded by the different molds, were compared with each other.

  • Recently, due to the tremendous growth of media technology, demands of the aspheric glass lens which is a high-performance and miniaturized increase gradually. Generally, the aspheric glass lens is manufactured by Glass Molding Press (GMP) method using tungsten carbide (WC) mold core. In this study, the thermal deformation which was occurred by GMP process was analyzed and applied it to compensate the aspheric glass lens. The compensated lens was satisfied that can be applied to the actual specifications.

  • This study investigated the pressing conditions in the molding of aspheric glass lenses for the mega pixel phone camera module using the DOE method. Tungsten carbide (WC; Japan, Everloy Co., 002K),which contained 0.5 w% cobalt (Co), was used to build the mold. The mold surface was ultra-precision ground and polished, and its form accuracy (PV) was 0.85um in aspheric surface. We selected four factors, pressing temperature, force and time of first step, and force of second step, respectively, as the parameters of the pressing process. in order to reduce the number of experiments, we applied fractional factorial design considering the main effects and two-way interactions. The analysis results indicate that the only two main effects, the pressing temperature and the time of pressing step 1, are available for the form accuracy (PV) of the molded lens. The analysis results indicated that the best combination of the factors for lowering the form accuracy(PV) value of molded lens was to have them at their low levels.

  • Plastic array lens are cheap to manufacture; however, plastic is not resistant to high temperatures and moisture. Optical glass represents a better solution but is a more-expensive alternative. Glass array lens can be produced using lithography or precision-molding techniques. The lithography process is commonly used, for instance, in the semiconductor industry; however, the manufacturing costs are high, the processing time is quite long, and spherical aberration is a problem. To obtain high-order aspherical shapes, mold-core manufacturing is conducted through ultra-precision grinding machining. In this paper, a $4{\times}1$ mold core was manufactured using an ultra-precision machine with a jig for the injection molding of an aspherical array lens. The machined mold core was measured using the Form TalySurf PGI 2+ contact-stylus profilometer. The measurement data of the mold core are suitable for the design criterion of below 0.5 um.

  • In the past, precision optical glass lenses were produced through multiple processes such as grinding and polishing, but mass production of aspheric glass lenses requiring high accuracy and having complex profile was rather difficult. In such a background, the high-precision optical glass molding pressing (GMP) process was developed with an eye to mass production of precision optical glass parts by molding press. In this paper, as a fundamental research to develop the multi-cavity mold for higher productivity of a progressive GMP process used in the fabrication of an aspheric glass lens, an aspheric glass lens forming simulation was carried out.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate and to find out the optimal annealing condition to mold an aspheric glass to be used for mobile phone module having 2 megapixel and $2.5{\times}$ zoom. Taking annealing rate and re-press temperature after molding as molding variables under the identical molding temperature and pressure, a glass lens was molded. And, Form Accuracy, Lens Thickness, Refractive Index, and Modulation Transfer Function(MTF) were measured in order to observe characteristics of molded lens, and then optimal annealing conditions were determined based on the resulting data. Properties of lens molded under the optimal conditions revealed Form Accuracy[PV] $0.2047\;{\mu}m$ in aspheric surface, and $0.2229\;{\mu}m$ in plane, and MTF value was 30.3 % under 80 lp/mm.

  • Aspheric glass lenses was fabricated by glass molding press(GMP), which is a plano-aspheric convox shape and intended for use as an optical design of 3 megapixel and 2.5 magnifications zoom in a camera phone module. Transcription ratio of form accuracy (PV) as well as resolution properties was measured for evaluation the molded lens. Form accuracy (PV) of the mold surface was $0.127\;{\mu}m$ in an aspheric and $0.168\;{\mu}m$ in a plano, in case of the molded lens it shows $0.205\;{\mu}m$ and $0.223\;{\mu}m$, respectively. Resolution of the molded lens was measured as a MTF[Contrast]. The molded lens shows contrast of 32.9% at 80 1p/mm and the value is similar with contrast of 33% obtained simulation.
