This article studies the types of financing and the liquidity of small and medium size firms in their early-stage. The sample firms distinguish themselves from the established firms in the second year after foundation in that they rely heavily on external equity financing. However, they use the internal financing the most in the fourth year and do not show distinguishing feature any more. In the mean while, they do not show any serious liquidity problem either in the second year or in the fourth year. The empirical results imply that early-stage lasts rather short after the foundation for successful Korean firms, and that a distinguishing feature of early-stage firm can be found only in financing, not in liquidity. They also allow us to assert that Government-lead financial aid programs should be limited to two- or three-year-old firms and focused on helping their financing investments rather than easing their liquidity problem.

Daejeon City has strived to support the SMEs to innovate technologies based on the capabilities of research and development of the Daedeok Innopolis. It is widely known that technological innovation is the key strategy of Small medium enterprises(SME) to survive and succeed in a market. This study aims to analyze the type and determinants of SME technological innovation in Daejeon. Even though most of firms are the small enterprises which employ less than 10 workers in Daejeon, the number of technology-oriented company per capita in Daejeon is highest in South Korea. The type of technological innovation is divided between product innovation and process innovation. The literature insists that technology-oriented small firm tends to implement product innovation rather than process innovation. SMEs in Daejeon also provided more output from product innovation than process innovation. The empirical analysis provided the results that the determinants of SME's technological innovation depends on its type. The scale of firm, R&D investment, and R&D employees positively influence product innovation of SMEs in Daejeon. However, the impact of R&D employees is not significant on innovating the existing product. Process innovation is positively affected by R&D investment and firm age. The study provides the policy implications to business supporting programs of Daejeon government. The business supporting policy of Daejeon government should focus on supporting each type of technological innovation to promote technological innovation by SME and consider strategies that focus on R&D investment and manpower support.

While small and medium-sized companies are suffering from a shortage of workers as a result of social tendency to avoid those companies, college graduates still prefer large companies or governmental positions, which consequently results in inconsistencies in the demand and supply of work forces. The gap between them is getting so bad that employment difficulties are exacerbating. Accordingly this study tries to search for potential employee's expected value factors which make people select small and medium companies not big companies. A survey was conducted from October 1 to october 30, 2012 with university students in the Seoul metropolitan area. a total of 350 questionnaires were distributed and 335 were collected. of these, 332 questionnaires were used for data analyses excluding questionnaires with missing values. Data was analyzed by frequency, descriptive factor, reliability, and regression with SPSS win 18.0 program The result of this study were as follows. A factor analysis extracted four factors comprising small and medium companies, which we named career(factor 1), working environment(factor 2), working achievement(factor 3), job security (factor 4). This study showed that small and medium companies' preference were affected by the career, working environment, job security, corporate reputation, salary.

In this research, we aim to analyze how different external knowledge search strategies of small and medium enterprises affect technological innovation. In particular, since there has been little comparison between Korean small and medium firms, we investigated the differences of the two groups by employing the "Korean Innovation Survey 2010." As a result, it was found that "external search breadth", which refers to expanding the spectrum of external knowledge search due to lack of resources and capabilities inside small firms, spurred technological innovation. On the other hand, "external search depth", which implies seeking a long-term and close relationship with the subjects that provide outside knowledge for medium firms, catalyzed technological innovation. These results emphasize that we need to separately analyze technological innovation of small and medium firms, which was, in most previous studies, viewed as one group, i.e. SMEs. In addition, the results can be, from the perspective of a firm's growth, interpreted as follows. That is, it is more effective to formulate a "diversity" pursuing strategy in the "small firm" stage where little time has passed since its establishment, whilst it is more useful to apply a "focus" strategy on sophisticated knowledge in the "medium firm" stage where a firm has grown to some extent.

The purpose of this study is to review the relationship between managerial system(CEO support, pay system, education & training) and knowledge management, and the moderating effect of decentralization and formalization in small business. In order to verify and achieve the purposes mentioned above, questionnaire data are gathered and analysed from 227 subjects in Kangwon-do province. Multiple regression and multiple hierarchical regression analysis were applied to test the proposed hypotheses: 1) the relationship between managerial system and knowledge acquisition, 2) the relationship between managerial system and knowledge transfer, 3) the moderating effects of decentralization on the relationship between managerial system and knowledge management, 4) the moderating effects of formalization on the relationship between managerial system and knowledge management. Empirical survey's findings are as follows; First, knowledge acquisition and transfer appeared to be positively related with CEO support and education & training. Second, education & training was verified to be more positively related with knowledge transfer in higher decentralization group than in lower group. Third, CEO support and education & training were more positively with knowledge acquisition in lower formalization group than in higher group. Fourth, pay system were more positively with knowledge transfer in lower formalization group than in higher group.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of the international marketing program (hereunder refer to as 'program') among the programs to support export conducted by the Small and Medium Business Administration. Especially, this study aims to analyze the effects of the program to increase in export for small - medium enterprises of less than 7 years (base on Item 2 of Article 2 of Act on Support for Small and Medium Enterprise Establishment). In order to achieve the purpose above, export result for 1,690 companies which participated through Gyeonggi District Small and Medium Business Administration in 2014 and 2015 were selected among the 843 companies that applied to the program through 12 local small and medium business administration in Korea and quantitative analysis on export performance of 1,690 companies is conducted in this study. In this study, main variables were selected by investigating advanced researches related to export performance of company based on the existing studies. And also, samples have been collected from companies in Gyeonggi area for this research since the companies in Gyeonggi area have been ranked as the 1s annually and the companies in Gyeonggi area employ the highest number of people per industry. As a result of actual proof analysis, Firstly, it was suggested that the program influences positively on the export performance of small-medium enterprises. Secondly, the program shows that the program influenced positively on the export performance of companies with less than 7 years. Lastly, it suggested that the program influenced more positively on the small - medium enterprises with less than 7years than normal small - medium enterprises. By adding the export performances of companies in Ulsan area of which the scale of import and export is the 2nd largest and companies in Seoul area, that participated in the program during the same period, I would like to conduct follow- up research if the significant results are obtained or not.

The utilization of the achievements derived from the national R & D project is a key task of the science and technology industry policy that should lead the national economic growth by enhancing the investment efficiency of the national R&D. Although Korea has implemented various programs supporting technology transfer, commercialization, Performance is not sufficient. One of several causes may include inflexibility of a small or medium-sized company Priority System. This study is exploratory research on the directions for improving the current a small or medium-sized company Priority System. Results: First, Because the current SMEs Priority System contributes positively to enhancing SMEs R&D capability, We have to keep the system in principle. However, it is necessary to improve the direction of giving the strategic flexibility of the system so that the system is not operated formally. First, it is appropriate to make an exceptional contract with a person other than a small or medium-sized company, if a small and medium-sized company is not suitable for a technology execution contract due to the nature of technology. Second, it is desirable to consider the fulfillment of the obligations of this system when "sufficient efforts" are made to find a technical user.

A success of opening a business should be supported with complete preparations and implementation. While there have been various educational programs for opening a business to support its success, there have not been a lot of studies on the relationships between educational programs and operational performance in small businesses, due to the difficulties of empirical survey. In this point, this study attempts to understand the relationships between preparation of opening a business and operational performance, while dividing samples into two groups (1. a group completing educational programs for opening a business, 2. a group non-completing). For the perspectives of the preparation of opening a business, various success factors have been suggested through various studies, but the perspectives and approaches of balanced business operation have been required. Therefore, using BSC, it developed a framework with the four perspectives of preparation for opening a business, and empirically reviewed the relationships between the four perspectives and operational performances in small businesses. It conducted a survey on the total 252 samples, whose business periods are less than 5 years. As the results, the preparations of financial and customer/marketing perspectives have significant relationships between operational performances in total samples, preparations of financial, customer/marketing, and growth-strategies perspectives in the educational program completing group and only preparation of financial perspectives in the non-completing group have significant relationship with operational performances. The differences between the two groups may imply that educational programs for opening a business may be helpful for preparation of opening a business and have some possibility of direct and indirect effects for the success of opening a business. Also, the developed BSC based-preparation framework for opening a business is meaningful for the view of balanced business operations, and can contribute to develop the educational programs for opening a business.

While there have been studies on the impact of government financial support on the performance of these enterprises, there is limited research on how entrepreneurs' perceptions of such policies affect business performance. Additionally, there is scarce domestic research on the role of entrepreneurial persistence in achieving and sustaining entrepreneurial goals and its impact on business performance. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze how entrepreneurs' perceptions of government policy support affect business performance and to explore the mediating effect of entrepreneurial persistence, shedding light on the significance of perceptions and deepening the understanding of entrepreneurial persistence. This study utilizes entrepreneurs' perceptions of government support for South Korean small and venture enterprises, and entrepreneurship as independent variables, with entrepreneurial persistence as a mediating variable and non-financial performance of businesses as the dependent variable. Data was collected through surveys targeting founders, CEOs, and executives of small and venture enterprises. After excluding incomplete responses, a total of 205 survey responses were used for hypothesis testing. The results of this study are as follows. First, it was verified that the perception of SME policy support and entrepreneurship have a significant positive impact on business performance. Second, it was verified that entrepreneurial persistence partially mediates the relationship between the perception of SME policy support and entrepreneurship and business performance. The theoretical implications of this study are twofold. First, it highlights the significant positive impact of entrepreneurs' perceptions of policy support on the non-financial performance of small and venture enterprises. This contributes to the theoretical understanding by demonstrating that entrepreneurs' perceptions play a role in affecting business performance, in contrast to previous research that focused on the impact of policy financial support on business performance. Second, this study extends the theoretical understanding of entrepreneurial persistence, a relatively understudied concept in domestic research, by demonstrating its mediating role in the relationship between entrepreneurs' perceptions of government support and, entrepreneurship, and business performance. Practically, the study suggests that to enhance the performance of small and venture enterprises, the government should not only expand policy support but also seek ways to increase entrepreneurs' perceptions of such support.

The purpose of this study was to verify whether the entrepreneurial capacity indicator utilized by the pre - founder can predict the start-up's performances in advance. The questionnaire for this study was measured at a single point in food, clothing, cosmetics, and coffee industries, which account for more than 50% of self-employment in korean economy. A total of 1,600 questionnaires were distributed and retrieved. And the final results were obtained through regression analysis. The empirical results show that the entrepreneurial capability index was related to the entrepreneurial performances. In particular, job satisfaction was found to be significant, but some significant results were found in the detailed indicators of financial aspect, and the significance was confirmed in terms of the necessity of further research among the entrepreneurial competency indicators composed of single indicators. From the policy point of view, it was suggested that entrepreneurial capability index can be a good tool to increase the entrepreneurial performance of the entrepreneur. In particular, it was confirmed that personal characteristics, entrepreneurial knowledge, entrepreneurial execution capacity, and external environment items were closely related to job satisfaction among measured competency indicators. Self-employed businesses, such as cosmetics and food, ware based on their own know-how and technology, and therefore, they were more likely to be influenced by their ability to run and business environment than others.
