  • The first purpose of this study is to verify the application of computer modelling to a enclosed space fire. The second one is to determine temperature distribution for the three different ventilation types in case of a enclosed space fire. The third one is to find out the ventilation direction and ventilation quantity to remove effectively heat and combustion products generated by a fire in variable air volume(VAV) system. Firstly, compared with experimental results of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory(LLNL), numerical results show good agreements. Secondly, among three different ventilation types, the numerical analyses show the highest temperature distribution in occupied zone(up to 1.8 m from bottom) from firing moment to 100 sec. when supply ducts are placed in ceiling and extract duct is placed close to the bottom on side walls. This is due to disadvantageous position of extract duct in ventilating high temperature air which rise because of buoyancy force. Thirdly, this study finds out effective ventilation direction and ventilation quantity to remove heat and combustion products generated by a fire by using VAV system. $CO_2$ concentration is used as a fire fume removal index. As soon as a fire happens, ventilation direction is changed in order to gather and drive out fire fumes. In case of three times ventilation quantity of ordinary one, $CO_2$ concentration and temperature have begun to decrease at 120 sec. after firing, i.e.fire fumes have begun to be removed.

  • This paper is writing about developing magnet power supply. It is very important for power supply to obtain output current in high precision and high stability. As a switching noise and a power noise are the cause of disrupting the stability of output current, to remove these at the front end, low pass filter with 300Hz cutoff frequency is designed and placed. And also to minimize switching noise of the current into magnet and to stop abrupt fluctuations, output filter should be designed, when doing this, we design it by considering load has high value inductance. As power supply demands the stability of less than 5ppm, high precision 24bit(300nV/bit) analog digital converter is needed. As resolving power of 24bit(300nV/bit) analog digital converter is high, it is also very important to design the input stage of analog digital converter. To remove input noise, 4th order low pass filter is composed. Due to the limitation of clock, to minimize quantization error between 15bit DPWM and output of ADC having 24bit resolving power, ${\Sigma}-{\Delta}$ modulation is used and bit contracted DPWM is constituted. And before implementing, to maximize efficiency, simulink is used.

  • The bioremediation is an economic technology to remove the organopollutants from soil. It is often found that the remediation could not remove the compounds below the levels determined by vigorous extractions as required by regulatory agencies. The reason for the reduced bioavailability with increasing time of aging has been accredited to the sequestration of the compounds in remote sites within or between soil particles. Then, the aging could be defined as the time-dependent sequestration. Partitioning and entrapment have been suggested as mechanism for aging. The rate and extent of the sequestration varies among dissimilar soils. The bioavailability of aged pollutants in soil could be measured by bioassays, mild solvent extraction, and soild-phase extractions. The sequestration could be affected by many factors including various soil properties, wetting and drying cycle, and the presence of cosolutes and NAPLs etc. The bioavailability and sequestration should be considered to determine the environmentally acceptable endpoint.

  • This study is focused on manganese (Mn(II)) removal by ozonation in surface water. Instant ozone demand for the water was 0.5 mg/L in the study. When 0.5 mg/L of Mn(II) is existed in water, the optimum ozone concentration was 1.25 mg/L with reaction time 10 minutes to meet the drinking water regulation. The ozone concentration to meet the drinking water regulation was much higher than the stoichiometric concentration. The reaction of soluble manganese removal was so fast that the reaction time does not affect the removal dramatically. When Mn(II) is existed with Fe, the removal of Mn(II) was not affected by Fe ion. However As(V) is existed as co-ion the removal of Mn(II) was decreased by 10%. Adding ozone to surface water has limited effect to remove dissolved organic matter. When ozone is used as oxidant to remove Mn(II) in the water, the existing co-ion should be evaluated to determine optimum concentration.

  • Large-scale civil engineering works discharge a large amount of soil suspension contaminated with natural heavy metals. Most of the heavy metal ions due to industrial activities and minings are accumulated in the soils and the sediments of lakes and inner bays through the rivers. It is necessary to remove heavy metals from the soils and the sediments, because some of these heavy metals, such as arsenic and cadmium, have significant biological effects even in small amounts. This study proposes a new volume reduction method of the contaminated soils and sediments by superconducting magnetic separation. Our process can remove the specific minute minerals selectively, which adsorbs heavy metals depending on pH. As a fundamental study, the adsorption behaviors of arsenic and cadmium on minute minerals as a function of pH were investigated, and the adsorption mechanism was discussed based on the crystal structure and pH dependence of surface potential in each minute minerals.

  • Recently, the image processing technologies using the public media such as the film, TV, camera and advertisement have been rapidly developed. However, the deterioration occurs with the image in the process of data processing, transmission and storage, and the typical cause of such deterioration is the salt and pepper noise. Typical filters to remove the salt and pepper noise include CWMF(center weighted median filter) and AMF(adaptive median filter) but such filters bring more or less insufficient characteristics of noise removal and visual error as the noise density gets higher. Thus, this paper proposed the median filter which applied the local mask segmented to 4 areas in order to remove the salt and pepper noise effectively and used PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) as a criterion of judgment.

  • The image processing is recognized as an important field as Internet develops. The image is deteriorated in the process of obtaining, storage and transmission with various causes. Many studies have been carried out to restore the image by mainly removing the impact of salt and pepper noise added to the image. Thus, this paper proposed a modified median filter using pixel distribution in order to remove the impact of salt and pepper noise added to the image and compared it with the current methods using PSNR(peak signal to n oise ratio) as a criterion of judgment for objective judgment.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether Vermi Cast could be used effectively to remove $SO_2$ from flue gas, and then to investigate optimum adsorption conditions. The Vermi Cast used as adsorbent was mechanically screened with 8~20 mesh sieve. The adsorption data for $SO_2$ were regressed using the Freundlich isotherm. The fit was generally satisfactory ($R^2$=0.945~0.982). With the temperature changes from 2$0^{\circ}C$ to 4$0^{\circ}C$, the constant k in Freundlich isotherm qe= $kCe^{1/n}$, decreased from 1.409 at 2$0^{\circ}C$to 0.297 at 4$0^{\circ}C$, and the exponent 1/n were decreased from 0.343 to 0.134. With the bed depth changes from 10cm to 30cm, the adsorption capacity expressed as mmol of $SO_2$ adsorbed per g of Vermi Cast increased from 0.247 to 0.381. Moisture content is an important parameter in the $SO_2$ adsorbed were observed over 0.3mmol $SO_2$ /g Vermi Cast. The best adsorption capacity was 0.487mmol $SO_2$ /g Vermi Cast, and it was obtained with moisture content 37%, temperature 2$0^{\circ}C$. From the above results, ti might be concluded that Vermi Cast is effectively as a good adsorbent to remove $SO_2$ from flue gas.

  • In this study, lots of methods have been studing to utilize energy and decrease contaminated effluents. There has been great progress on IGCC (Integrated gasification combined cycle) to reduce thermal energy losses. The following results have been conducted from desulfurization experiments using waste shell to remove H$_2$S. Fixed bed desulfurization experiments, to obtain basic data for scale-up was indicated. Oyster was the best among the various sorbents, like the results of TGA. Especially, H$_2$S removal efficiency of uncalcined oyster was the highest. When use oyster as desulfurization sorbents, calcination process was not needed. Thus, high desulfurization efficiency would be expected. Fixed bed reactor experiments were indicated particle size of sorbents. These had influenced on desulfurization capacity. As smaller particle size was found better desulfurization capacity. Large capacity difference was found between 0.613 mm and 0.335 mm. But, differences between 0.335 mm and 0.241 mm was relatively small. As bed temperature increased, H$_2$S removal capacity increased. Therefore, both particle size and bed temperature should be considered to remove H$_2$S by sorbents.

  • We investigated optical properties of an electron-doped copper oxide high temperature superconductor, $Pr_{0.85}LaCe_{0.15}CuO_4$ (PLCCO) single crystal. We obtained the optical conductivity from measured reflectance at various temperatures. We found our data contained c-axis longitudinal optical (LO) phonon modes due to miscut and intrinsic lattice distortion. We applied an extended Drude model to study the correlations between charge carriers in the system. The LO phonons appear as strong sharp peaks in the optical scattering rate. We tried to remove the LO phonon modes by using the energy loss function, which also shows the LO phonons as peaks, and could not remove them completely. We extracted the electron-boson spectral density function using a generalized Allen's formula. We observed that the resulting electron-boson density show similar temperature dependence as hole-doped cuprates.
