  • CF8M cast austenitic stainless steel is used for several components such as primary coolant piping, elbow, pump casing, and valve bodies in light water reactors. These components are subject to thermal aging at the reactor operating temperature. Thermal aging results in spinodal decomposition of the delta-ferrite leading to increased strength and decreased toughness. In this study, three kinds of the aged CF8M specimen were prepared using an artificially simulated aging method. The objective of this study is to summarize the method of estimating ferrite contents, Charpy impact energy and J-R curve, and to evaluate the thermal embrittlement of the CF8M cast austenitic stainless steel piping used in the domestic nuclear power plants.

  • Spheroidal graphite cast irons which are Fe-3%C-(4-6)%Si-(0-0.5)%Mo were studied to improve not only heat resistance but also mechanical properties. With increasing Mo content, the graphitization was decreased and carbide volume fraction was increased. The graphite spheroidization ratio was not decreased in Fe-3%C-6%Si-Mo system cast iron with increasing Mo content, but that was decreased in Fe-3%C-4%Si-Mo system and Fe-3%C-5%Si-Mo system cast irons. Hardness was increased with the Si and Mo contents. At constant Si content, tensile strength was increased with increasing Mo content, but that was decreased at 6%Si. In the experiment of oxidation, weight gain was decreased as the Si and/or Mo content increased, but increased at 1.5%Mo content.

  • Effects of high Si-P addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of thin ductile cast iron have been investigated. The amount of silicon addition have fixed on 4.0wt% and the amounts of phosphorus addition and thickness of specimen have been varied from 0.05 to 0.8wt% and ${\phi}13mm$, ${\phi}10mm$ and ${\phi}6mm$, respectively. As the casting thickness decreased, the average diameter of spheroidal graphite was decreased and the hardness of the cast iron increased. By adding P, the average diameter of spheroidal graphite was increased and the count of the spheroidal graphite was decreased continuously. And the tensile strength and the elongation was decreased, and the hardness was increased. With the P added more than 0.2wt%, the abraded amount was decreased significantly. The addition of P improved the wear resistance and the hardness of thin ductile cast iron.

  • In this paper, Frequency spectra of AE(acoustic emission) signals generated from the magnetizing and the load currents in the actual operating cast-resin power transformer of 500[kVA] under distribution system of22.9[kV] were also analysed to distinguish the AE signals due to void discharges from the magnetic circuit noises in the core of cast-resin power transformer. As the experimental results, we could distinguish the AE signals whether those signals were caused due to the void discharges or due to the magnetic circuit noises by analyzing the frequency spectrum of AE signals. Frequency spectra of AE signals generated from the cast-resin power transformer in operation due to both the magnetizing and the load currents appeared in the range of 40-120[khz].

  • Austempered ductile cast iron has been well known for their good toughness and strength. Generally these properties were improved by the various heat treatments and alloying elements. In this study, the effects of prior heat treatment history(near ferrite, near pearlite, near martensite) on the toughness and strength of the austempered ductile cast iron were studied experimentally and theoretically. All of the test specimens was austenitized at $900^{\circ}C$ for 1 h and austempered at $300^{\circ}C$, $350^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $450^{\circ}C$, respectively. The prior structure of near martensite in austempered ductile cast iron was not good in term of toughness and strength because the carbon content was apt to high in austenite during ausnitizing. It was found, on the other hand, that the ferrite matrix as prior structure had good combination of toughness and strenght. The best tensile strength and good toughness were obtained at $300^{\circ}C$, austemper in the prior structure of near ferrite, while $400^{\circ}C$ austemper in that of near pearlite and martensite.

  • Effects of alloying elements on the mechanical properties of 3.60wt%C-2.50wt%Si ductile cast iron with annealing and normalizing were investigated. Yield and tensile strengths were increased from 278 and 415 MPa to 316 and 440 MPa respectively as manganese content was increased upto 0.45wt% while elongation was decreased from 24.2 to 5.0%. The formers were increased and the latter was decreased with the increased amount of copper, molybdenum or nickel added. Meanwhile the tensile strength of annealed specimen was increased with the amount of alloying elements added, it was decreased by annealing. It was increased greatly by normalizing and the amount of alloying elements added except molybdenum.

  • Cast-forging process has a lot of advantages in terms of saving materials along with enhancement of mechanical properties. Therefore, this process has been taken as one of candidate process to manufacturing automotive suspension parts. Since most of cast-forging parts are made with using Al-Si alloys of high castability, the mechanical properties largely depends on the primary ${\alpha}$ and eutectic Si particles. During hot forging step these microstructural features evolve with strain increment. In the present study, the mechanical property evolution was investigated in terms of microstructual evolution with strain. Specially, fracture behavior of A356 alloy was studied to find out how to improve the mechanical properties.

  • Production of rolled steel has been growing partly supported by the advancement of rolls and rolling mills. Aiming at the further improvement in roll performance, various new techniques such as centrifugal casting, double poured casting cast steel, special build-up making, etc. have been introduced in the field of roll manufacture in these several years. The present paper describes the development of horizontal cast rolls(sleeve and indefinite chilled roll) made by Hyundai Steel and the results of mill tests. The developed roils are contributing the improvement of final products.

  • Due to the uneasy controllable qualities of the substructures such as pile and foundation, which are laid on underground, geotechnical engineers have applied conservative criteria to them. Therefore, the specification criterion of cast-in-situ concrete pile, which allows only one fourth of the compressive strength of structural capacity, has forced geotechnical designers to consider the most uneconomical design regardless of satisfying the grade of quality-control, required performance, construction cost and so on. Thus, in this study, we proposed the less conservative criteria on the strength of concrete pile, based on the experimental testing results of cast-in-situ concrete piles.

  • In this paper, study on the properties of the thermal degradated epoxy resin which is used in cast resin transformer is performed to investigate the problems of the decreasing insulation characteristics and crack in the cast resin transformer. In the test, contact angle, weight loss, surface resistivity and relative dielectric constant are measured. As the results of the above measurements, the epoxy resin has increased to 150$^{\circ}C$ in the contact angle and surface resistivity but at the above 150$^{\circ}C$ the values have decreased. The relative dielectric constants have increased in the thermal treated samples with the degradation temperature. Consequently, the insulation properties of the epoxy resin which is used in cast resin transformer have increased by the 150$^{\circ}C$ but decreased in the above 150$^{\circ}C$.
