In this study, the daily inflow at the basin of Chungju dam is predicted using wavelet-artificial neural network for nonlinear model. Time series generally consists of a linear combination of trend, periodicity and stochastic component. However, when framing time series model through these data, trend and periodicity component have to be removed. Wavelet transform which is denoising technique is applied to remove nonlinear dynamic noise such as trend and periodicity included in hydrometeorological data and simple noise that arises in the measurement process. The wavelet-artificial neural network (WANN) using data applied wavelet transform as input variable and the artificial neural network (ANN) using only raw data are compared. As a results, coefficient of determination and the slope through linear regression show that WANN is higher than ANN by 0.031 and 0.0115 respectively. And RMSE and RRMSE of WANN are smaller than those of ANN by 37.388 and 0.099 respectively. Therefore, WANN model applied in this study shows more accurate results than ANN and application of denoising technique through wavelet transforms is expected that more accurate predictions than the use of raw data with noise.
In this study, a data-driven response surface method using the results acquired from the numerical simulation is developed to evaluate the potential storage capacity of groundwater due to the construction of a groundwater dam. The hydraulic conductivities of alluvium and basement rock, depth and slope of the channel are considered as the natural conditions of the location for groundwater dam construction. In particular, the probability models of the hydraulic conductivities and the various types of geometry of the channel are considered to ensure the reliability of the numerical simulation and the generality of the developed estimation model. As the results of multiple simulations, it can be seen that the hydraulic conductivity of basement rock and the depth of the channel greatly influence to the groundwater storage capacity. In contrast, the slope of the channel along the groundwater flow direction shows a relatively lower impact on the storage capacity. Based on the considered natural conditions and the corresponding numerical simulation results, the storage capacity estimation model is developed applying an artificial neural network as the nonlinear regression model for training. The developed estimation model shows a high correlation coefficient (>0.9) between the simulated and the estimated storage amount. This result indicates the superiority of the developed model in evaluating the storage capacity of the potential location for groundwater dam construction without the numerical simulation. Therefore, a more objective and efficient comparison for the storage capacity between the different potential locations can be possibly made based on the developed estimation model. In line with this, the proposed method can be an effective tool to assess the optimal location of groundwater dam construction across Korea.

A number of investigations and studies have been conducted in various fields regarding the sediment disasters of Mt. Woomyeon that occurred in July 2011. We collected and compared the topographic information of the general points where debris flows did not occur and the collapse points where the debris flow occurred in order to find out the characteristics of the collapse points in Woomyeon mountain. The collected topographic information is altitude, curvature, slope, aspect and TPI(topographic position index). As a result of comparison, there were relatively many collapse points at an altitude of 210m to 250m, and at a slope of 30° to 40°. In addition, the risk of collapse was low in a cell where the curvature was close to 0, and the risk was higher in concave terrain than in convex terrain. In the case of TPI, there was no statistical difference between the general points and the collapse points when the analysis radius was larger than 200m, and there was a correlation with the curvature when the analysis radius was smaller than 50m. In the case of debris flows that are affected by artificial structures or facilities, there is a possibility of disturbing the topographic analysis results. Therefore, if a research on debris flow is conducted on a mountain area that is heavily exposed to human activities, such as Woomyeon mountain, diversified factors must be considered to account for this impact.
For the application of ectomycorrhizal seedlings on damaged slope lands, studies on cultural characteristics of Lyophyllum shimeji and ectomycorrhizal associations of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya seedlings were carried out by artificial inoculation of L. shimeji. Mycelial growth of L. shimeji was best on MP (1% malt extract, 0.1% peptone, 1% glucose and 1.5% agar) medium. An optimum temperature and pH for the mycelial growth were $25^{\circ}C$ and pH6, respectively. Mycorrhizal root of L. cyrtobotrya seedlings inoculated with L. shimeji showed characteristics of ectomycorrhizas with Hartig net. Growth rate of the mycorrhizal seedlings's roots was higher than that of non-mycorrhizal seedlings. When the mycorrhizal seedlings were transplanted in slope land, survival rate and dry weight were 62% and 850 mg/seedling, respectively. On the other hand, survival rate and dry weight of non-mycorrhizal seedlings were 11% and 430 mg/seedling, respectively.

This study was carried out to investigate and propose a green-wall system with evergreen plants for urban greening of Tongyeong City. To achieve these goals, the requirements and possibilities for wall greening were investigated and evaluated considering the location, topography, and climate of Tongyeong City. Existing walls were analyzed and then a suitable green wall system is proposed. Tongyeong City and its 151 islands covers the central and the southern parts of the Goseong peninsula. Most of the land is covered with hills and mountains; $43.9\%$ of the land area has a slope greater than $15\%$ and most hills and mountains near the urban area have a slope of more than $30\%$. As a result of the topographical properties, concrete retaining walls can often be seen along the streets in urbanized areas. These retaining walls are not only unattractive, but they also create environmental problems, and thus should be replaced with native evergreen plants. Options for replacing the retaining walls include evergreen vine-plants such as Hedaa spp. and Euonymus radicans, but native evergreen shrubs such as Pittosporum tobira, Nandina domestica, Raphiolepis umbellata, Ilex cornuta, flex crenata, Fatsia japonic, and Aucuba japonica may be a more attractive option. Current wall conditions are unsuitable for planting vines, therefore, a reservoir-drainage-type plant box filled with a light artificial substrate is required for greening these concrete retaining walls. These might be irrigated in the dry season and fertilized annually by an appropriate system. These plant boxes could be attached along the entire walls. An experiment investigating effects of substrates and bark-chip mulching on the growth of Hedera spp. showed that the mixture of cerasoil and field soil(v/v, 4:6) was superior to field soil alone and to the mixture of perlite small grain, large grain, and field soil(v/v/v, 2:2:6). Bark-chip mulching tended to increase the growth of Hedera spp..
Catchments soil erosion, one of the most serious problems in the mountainous environment of the world, consists of a complex phenomenon involving the detachment of individual soil particles from the soil mass and their transport, storage and overland flow of rainfall, and infiltration. Sediment size distribution during erosion processes appear to depend on many factors such as rainfall characteristics, vegetation cover, hydraulic flow, soil properties and slope. This study involved laboratory flume experiments carried out under simulated rainfall in a 3.0 m long ${\times}$ 0.8 m wide ${\times}$ 0.7 m deep flume, set at $17^{\circ}$ slope. Five experimental cases, consisting of twelve experiments using three different sediments with two different rainfall conditions, are reported. The experiments consisted of detailed observations of particle size distribution of the out-flow sediment. Sediment water mixture out-flow hydrograph and sediment mass out-flow rate over time, moisture profiles at different points within the soil domain, and seepage outflow were also reported. Moisture profiles, seepage outflow, and movement of overland flow were clearly found to be controlled by water retention function and hydraulic function of the soil. The difference of grain size distribution of original soil bed and the out-flow sediment was found to be insignificant in the cases of uniform sediment used experiments. However, in the cases of non-uniform sediment used experiments the outflow sediment was found to be coarser than the original soil domain. The results indicated that the sediment transport mechanism is the combination of particle segregation, suspension/saltation and rolling along the travel distance.
We aim to investigate the morphological and environmental characteristics of royal tombs of Chosun Dynasty by using GIS technique and remotely-sensed data. Most of the royal tombs are located on the banded gneiss and granite and over the south- and east. facing slopes and have altitudinal ranges of 150 to 200 meters. Due to the time gaps, exact locational preferences of the royal families can not be understood at this moment and also proximity to the running water is hard to be quantified. Close examination of Gwangneung indicates that the artificial modification and weathering have severe impacts on the slope and stone artefacts. The results from this research can be useful to preserve the valueless cultural heritages.
An application of the instrumented indentation technique has been expanded from the measurements of hardness and elastic modulus to the analysis of residual stress. A slope of the indentation loading curve increases (or decreases) according to compressive (or tensile) residual stress. A theoretical equation has been established for quantifying residual stress from the slope change. However, a precise observation of the remnant indents is indispensible because the theoretical approach needs actual contact information. In addition, the conventional hardness test is still used for predicting the residual stress distribution of welded joints. Thus, we observed the three-dimensional morphologies of the remnant indents formed on artificial stress states and analyzed stress effects on morphological recovery of the indents. First, a depth recovery ratio, which has been regarded as a sensitive stress indicator, did not show a clear dependency with the residual stress. Thus an analysis on volumetric recovery was tried in this study and yielded a inverse proportional behavior with the residual stress. In addition, an elastic to plastic volume recovery ratio showed more significant correlation with the residual stress.
Landslides are caused by complex interaction among a large number of interrelated factors such as topography, geology, forest and soils. In this study, a comparative study was carried out using fuzzy relationship method and artificial neural network to evaluate landslide susceptibility. For landslide susceptibility mapping, maps of the landslide occurrence locations, slope angle, aspect, curvature, lithology, soil drainage, soil depth, soil texture, forest type, forest age, forest diameter and forest density were constructed from the spatial data sets. In fuzzy relation analysis, the membership values for each category of thematic layers have been determined using the cosine amplitude method. Then the integration of different thematic layers to produce landslide susceptibility map was performed by Cartesian product operation. In artificial neural network analysis, the relative weight values for causative factors were determined by back propagation algorithm. Landslide susceptibility maps prepared by two approaches were validated by ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristic) curve and AUC(Area Under the Curve). Based on the validation results, both approaches show excellent performance to predict the landslide susceptibility but the performance of the artificial neural network was superior in this study area.

Mapping of artificial levee lines, one of major tasks in river zone mapping, is critical to prevention of river flood, protection of environments and eco systems in river zones. Thus, mapping of artificial levee lines is essential for management and development of river zones. Coastal mapping including river zone mapping has been historically carried out using surveying technologies. Photogrammetry, one of the surveying technologies, is recently used technology for national river zone mapping in Korea. Airborne laser scanning has been used in most advanced countries for coastal mapping due to its ability to penetrate shallow water and its high vertical accuracy. Due to these advantages, use of LiDAR data in coastal mapping is efficient for monitoring and predicting significant topographic change in river zones. This paper introduces a method for construction of a 3D artificial levee line using a set of LiDAR points that uses normal vectors. Multiple steps are involved in this method. First, a 2.5-dimensional Delaunay triangle mesh is generated based on three nearest-neighbor points in the LiDAR data. Second, a median filtering is applied to minimize noise. Third, edge selection algorithms are applied to extract break edges from a Delaunay triangle mesh using two normal vectors. In this research, two methods for edge selection algorithms using hypothesis testing are used to extract break edges. Fourth, intersection edges which are extracted using both methods at the same range are selected as the intersection edge group. Fifth, among intersection edge group, some linear feature edges which are not suitable to compose a levee line are removed as much as possible considering vertical distance, slope and connectivity of an edge. Sixth, with all line segments which are suitable to constitute a levee line, one river levee line segment is connected to another river levee line segment with the end points of both river levee line segments located nearest horizontally and vertically to each other. After linkage of all the river levee line segments, the initial river levee line is generated. Since the initial river levee line consists of the LiDAR points, the pattern of the initial river levee line is being zigzag along the river levee. Thus, for the last step, a algorithm for smoothing the initial river levee line is applied to fit the initial river levee line into the reference line, and the final 3D river levee line is constructed. After the algorithm is completed, the proposed algorithm is applied to construct the 3D river levee line in Zng-San levee nearby Ham-Ahn Bo in Nak-Dong river. Statistical results show that the constructed river levee line generated using a proposed method has high accuracy in comparison to the ground truth. This paper shows that use of LiDAR data for construction of the 3D river levee line for river zone mapping is useful and efficient; and, as a result, it can be replaced with ground surveying method for construction of the 3D river levee line.
