A resonable and economical method which can predict permeability of rock mass in underground is needed to overcome the uncertainty of groundwater behavior. For this par pose, one prediction method of permeability has been studied. The artificial neural networks model using error back propagation algorithm, . one of the teaching techniques, is utilized for this purpose. In order to verify the applicability of this model, in-situ permeability results are simulated. The simulation results show the potentiality of utilizing the neural networks for effective permeability prediction of rock mass.

This paper presents an artificial neural network (ANN) based model with a back-propagation algorithm for short-term load forecasting in microgrid power systems. Owing to the significant weather factors for such purpose, relevant input variables were selected in order to improve the forecasting accuracy. As remarked above, forecasting is more complex in a microgrid because of the increased variability of disaggregated load curves. Accurate forecasting in a microgrid will depend on the variables employed and the way they are presented to the ANN. This study also shows numerically that there is a close relationship between forecast errors and the number of training patterns used, and so it is necessary to carefully select the training data to be employed with the system. Finally, this work demonstrates that the concept of load forecasting and the ANN tools employed are also applicable to the microgrid domain with very good results, showing that small errors of Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) around 3% are achievable.
In the paper, we have proposed a new method to determine the initial billet for the forged products using a function approximation in the neural network. The architecture of neural network is a three-layer neural network and the back propagation algorithm is employed to train the network. By utilizing the ability of function approximation of a neural network, an optimal billet is determined by applying the nonlinear mathematical relationship between the aspect ratios in the initial billet and the final products. The amount of incomplete filling in the die is measured by the rigid-plastic finite element method. The neural network is trained with the initial billet aspect ratios and those of the unfilled volumes. After learning, the system is able to predict the filling regions which are exactly the same or slightly different to the results of finite element simulation. This new method is applied to find the optimal billet size for the plane strain rib-web product in cold forging. This would reduce the number of finite element simulation for determining the optimal billet size of forging product, further it is usefully adapted to physical modeling for the forging design.
Finite difference method using not general SSG(standard staggered grid) but RSG(rotated staggered grid) was applied to simulation of elastic wave propagation. Special free surface boundary condition such as imaging method is needed in finite difference method using SSG in elastic wave propagation but free surface boundary condition in finite difference method using RSG is easily solved with adding air layer. Recently PML(Perfectly Matched layer) is widely used to eliminate artificial reflection waves from finite boundary because of its' greate efficiency. Absorbing ability of CPML(convolutional Perfectly Matched Layer) that is more efficient than that of PML was applied to FDM using RSG in this study. The results of CPML eliminated artificial boundary waves very effectively in FDM using RSG in being compared with that of Cerjan's absorbing method.
Modern production systems are very complex by request of automation, and failure modes that occur in thisautomatic system are very various and complex. The efficient fault diagnosis for these complex systems is essential for productivity loss prevention and cost saving. Traditional fault diagnostic system which perforns sequential fault diagnosis can cause catastrophic failure during diagnosis when fault propagation is very fast. This paper describes the Real-time Intelligent Multiple Fault Diagnosis System (RIMFDS). RIMFDS assesses current machine condition by using sensor signals. This system deals with multiple fault diagnosis, comprising of two main parts. One is a personal computer for remote signal generation and transmission and the other is a host system for multiple fault diagnosis. The signal generator generates various faulty signals and image information and sends them to the host. The host has various modules and agents for efficient multiple fault diagnosis. A SUN workstation is used as a host for multiple fault modules and agents for efficient multiple fault diagnosis. A SUN workstation is used as a host for multiple fault diagnosis and graphic representation of the results. RIMFDS diagnoses multiple faults with fast fault propagation and complex physical phenomenon. The new system based on multiprocessing diagnoses by using Hierarchical Artificial Neural Network (HANN).

This paper proposed the friction model using Preisach algorithm with neural network based on experimental results. In order to apply the neural network algorithm, the back propagation update rule was used and the updated weighting factor of neural network was applied to distribute function of Preisach model. In order to implement the proposed algorithm, the LabView software was used to apply to the precision control of mechanical system. The evaluation of the proposed friction model was executed through experiments.
This paper examines the applicability of artificial neural network (ANN) and multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) to predict the compressive strength of bacteria incorporated geopolymer concrete (GPC). The mix is composed of new bacterial strain, manufactured sand, ground granulated blast furnace slag, silica fume, metakaolin and fly ash. The concentration of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is maintained at 8 Molar, sodium silicate ($Na_2SiO_3$) to NaOH weight ratio is 2.33 and the alkaline liquid to binder ratio of 0.35 and ambient curing temperature ($28^{\circ}C$) is maintained for all the mixtures. In ANN, back-propagation training technique was employed for updating the weights of each layer based on the error in the network output. Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm was used for feed-forward back-propagation. MARS model was developed by establishing a relationship between a set of predictors and dependent variables. MARS is based on a divide and conquers strategy partitioning the training data sets into separate regions; each gets its own regression line. Six models based on ANN and MARS were developed to predict the compressive strength of bacteria incorporated GPC for 1, 3, 7, 28, 56 and 90 days. About 70% of the total 84 data sets obtained from experiments were used for development of the models and remaining 30% data was utilized for testing. From the study, it is observed that the predicted values from the models are found to be in good agreement with the corresponding experimental values and the developed models are robust and reliable.
Wave propagation in a three-dimensional (3D) fully nonlinear numerical wave tank (NWT) is studied based on velocity potential theory. The governing Laplace equation with fully nonlinear boundary conditions on the moving free surface is solved using the indirect desingularized boundary integral equation method (DBIEM). The fourth-order predictor-corrector Adams-Bashforth-Moulton scheme (ABM4) and mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) method are used for the time-stepping integration of the free surface boundary conditions. A smoothing algorithm, B-spline, is applied to eliminate the possible saw-tooth instabilities. The artificial wave speed employed in MTF (multi-transmitting formula) approach is investigated for fully nonlinear wave problem. The numerical results from incorporating the damping zone (DZ), MTF and MTF coupled DZ (MTF+DZ) methods as radiation condition are compared with analytical solution. An effective MTF+DZ method is finally adopted to simulate the 3D linear wave, second-order wave and irregular wave propagation. It is shown that the MTF+DZ method can be used for simulating fully nonlinear wave propagation very efficiently.

This paper deals with a computer aided control of an adjustment process for the complete electronic devices by means of an application of artificial neural network and an implementation of neuro-controller for intelligent control. Multi-layer neural network model is employed as artificial neural network with the learning method of the error back propagation. Information initially available from real plant under control are the initial values of plant output, and the augmented plant input and its corresponding plant output at that time. For the intelligent control of adjustment process utilizing artificial neural network, the neural network emulator (NNE) and the neural network controller(NNC) are developed. The initial weights of each neural network are determined through off line learning for the given product and it is also employed to cope with environments of the another product by on line learning. Computer simulation, as well as the application to the real situation of proposed intelligent control system is investigated.
In this study, the nonlinear vibrations of stepped beams having different boundary conditions were investigated. The equations of motions were obtained by using Hamilton's principle and made non dimensional. The stretching effect induced non-linear terms to the equations. Natural frequencies are calculated for different boundary conditions, stepped ratios and stepped locations by Newton-Raphson Method. The corresponding nonlinear correction coefficients are also calculated for the fundamental mode. At the second part, an alternative method is produced for the analysis. The calculated natural frequencies and nonlinear corrections are used for training an artificial neural network (ANN) program which has a multi-layer, feed-forward, back-propagation algorithm. The results of the algorithm produce errors less than 2.5% for linear case and 10.12% for nonlinear case. The errors are much lower for most cases except clamped-clamped end condition. By employing the ANN algorithm, the natural frequencies and nonlinear corrections are easily calculated by little errors, and the computational time is drastically reduced compared with the conventional numerical techniques.
