  • In this study, we delve into the effects of personalization algorithms on the creation of "filter bubbles," which can isolate individuals intellectually by reinforcing their pre-existing biases, particularly through personalized Google searches. By setting up accounts with distinct ideological learnings-progressive and conservative-and employing deep neural networks to simulate user interactions, we quantitatively confirmed the existence of filter bubbles. Our investigation extends to the deployment of an LSTM model designed to assess political orientation in text, enabling us to bias accounts deliberately and monitor their increasing ideological inclinations. We observed politically biased search results appearing over time in searches through biased accounts. Additionally, the political bias of the accounts continued to increase. These results provide numerical evidence for the existence of filter bubbles and demonstrate that these bubbles exert a greater influence on search results over time. Moreover, we explored potential solutions to mitigate the influence of filter bubbles, proposing methods to promote a more diverse and inclusive information ecosystem. Our findings underscore the significance of filter bubbles in shaping users' access to information and highlight the urgency of addressing this issue to prevent further political polarization and media habit entrenchment. Through this research, we contribute to a broader understanding of the challenges posed by personalized digital environments and offer insights into strategies that can help alleviate the risks of intellectual isolation caused by filter bubbles.

  • Background: Understanding the behaviour of nuclear fuel claddings by conducting burst test on single cladding tube under simulated loss-of-coolant accident conditions and developing theoretical cum empirical predictive computer codes have been the focus of several investigations. The developed burst criterion (a) assumes symmetrical deformation of cladding tube in contrast to experimental observation (b) interpolates the properties of Zircaloy-4 cladding in mixed α+β phase (c) does not account for azimuthal temperature variations. In order to overcome all these drawbacks of burst criterion, it is reasoned that artificial intelligence technique may be a better option to predict the burst parameters. Methods: Artificial neural network models based on feedforward backpropagation algorithm with logsig transfer function are developed. Results: Neural network architecture of 2-4-4-3, that is model with two hidden layers having four nodes in each layer is found to be the most suitable. The mean, maximum, and minimum prediction errors for this optimised model are 0.82%, 19.62%, and 0.004%, respectively. Conclusion: The burst stress, burst temperature, and burst strain obtained from burst criterion have average deviation of 19%, 12%, and 53% respectively whereas the developed neural network model predicted these parameters with average deviation of 6%, 2%, and 8%, respectively.

  • Narratives are fundamental to human cognition and social culture, serving as the primary means by which individuals and societies construct meaning, share experiences, and convey cultural and moral values. The field of artificial intelligence, which seeks to mimic human thought and behavior, has long studied story generation and story understanding, and today's Large Language Models are demonstrating remarkable narrative capabilities based on advances in natural language processing. This situation raises a variety of changes and new issues, but a comprehensive discussion of them is hard to find. This paper aims to provide a holistic view of the current state and future changes by exploring the intersections and interactions of human and AI narrative intelligence. This paper begins with a review of multidisciplinary research on the intrinsic relationship between humans and narrative, represented by the term Homo narrans, and then provide a historical overview of how narrative has been studied in the field of AI. This paper then explore the possibilities and limitations of narrative intelligence as revealed by today's Large Language Models, and present three philosophical challenges for understanding the implications of AI with narrative intelligence.

  • This study is to investigate the perception of domestic appraisers about the possibility of using artificial intelligence (AI) and related risks from the use of AI in the appraisal industry. We conducted a mobile survey of evaluators from February 10 to 18, 2022. We collected survey data from 193 respondents. Frequency analysis and multiple response analysis were performed for basic analysis. When AI is used in the appraisal industry, factor analysis was used to analyze various types of risks. Although appraisers have a positive perception of AI introduction in the appraisal industry, they considered collateral, consulting, and taxation, mainly in areas where AI is likely to be used and replaced, mainly negative effects related to job losses and job replacement. They were more aware of the alternative risks caused by AI in the field of human labor. I was very aware of responsibilities, privacy and security, and the risk of technical errors. However, fairness, transparency, and reliability risks were generally perceived as low risk issues. Existing studies have mainly studied analysis methods that apply AI to mass evaluation models, but this study focused on the use and risk of AI. Understanding industry experts' perceptions of AI utilization will help minimize potential risks when AI is introduced on a large scale.

  • The determination of the mixture parameters of stabilization has become a great concern in geotechnical applications. This paper presents an effort about the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques including radial basis neural network (RBNN), multi-layer perceptrons (MLP), generalized regression neural network (GRNN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) in order to predict the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of silty soil stabilized with bottom ash (BA), jute fiber (JF) and steel fiber (SF) under different freeze-thaw cycles (FTC). The dosages of the stabilizers and number of freeze-thaw cycles were employed as input (predictor) variables and the UCS values as output variable. For understanding the dominant parameter of the predictor variables on the UCS of stabilized soil, a sensitivity analysis has also been performed. The performance measures of root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and determination coefficient ($R^2$) were used for the evaluations of the prediction accuracy and applicability of the employed models. The results indicate that the predictions due to all AI techniques employed are significantly correlated with the measured UCS ($p{\leq}0.05$). They also perform better predictions than nonlinear regression (NLR) in terms of the performance measures. It is found from the model performances that RBNN approach within AI techniques yields the highest satisfactory results (RMSE = 55.4 kPa, MAE = 45.1 kPa, and $R^2=0.988$). The sensitivity analysis demonstrates that the JF inclusion within the input predictors is the most effective parameter on the UCS responses, followed by FTC.
