Autonomous Mobile Robot Navigation using Artificial Immune Networks and Fuzzy Systems (인공 면역망과 퍼지 시스템을 이용한 자율이동로봇 주행)

  • The navigation algorithms enable autonomous mobile robots to reach given target points without collision against obstacles. To achieve safe navigations in unknown environments, this paper presents an effective navigation algorithm for the autonomous mobile robots with ultrasonic sensors. The proposed navigation algorithm consists of an obstacle-avoidance behavior, a target-reaching behavior and a fuzzy-based decision maker. In the obstacle-avoidance behavior and the target-reaching behavior, artificial immune networks are used to select a proper steering angle, make the autonomous mobile robot avoid obstacles and approach a given target point. The fuzzy-based decision maker combines the steering angles from the target-reaching behavior and the obstacle-avoidance behavior in order to steer the autonomous mobile robot appropriately. Simulational and experimental results show that the proposed navigation algorithm is very effective in unknown environments.

  • This paper proposes a new artificial immune approach to hardware test. A novel algorithm of generating tolerance conditions is suggested based on the principle of the antibody diversity. Tolerance conditions in artificial immune system correspond to the antibody in biological immune system. The suggested method is applied to the on-line monitoring of a typical FSM (a decade counter) and its effectiveness is demonstrated by the computer simulation.

  • This paper presents the artificial life algorithm which is remarkable in the area of engineering for optimum design. As artificial life organisms have a sensing system, they can find the resource which they want to find and metabolize it. And the characteristics of artificial life are emergence and dynamical interacting with environment. In other words, the micro interaction with each other in the artificial life's group results in emergent colonization in the whole system. In this paper, therefore, artificial life algorithm by using above characteristics is employed into functions optimization. The effectiveness of this proposed algorithm is verified through the numerical test of single and multi objective functions. The numerical tests also show that the proposed algorithm is superior to genetic algorithm and immune algorithm for the Multi-peak function. And artificial life algorithm is also applied to optimum design of high-speed, short journal bearings and verified through the numerical test.

An Autonomous Mobile Robot Control Method based on Fuzzy-Artificial Immune Networks and RBFN (퍼지-인공면역망과 RBFN에 의한 자율이동로봇 제어)

  • In order to navigate the mobile robots safely in unknown environments, many researches have been studied to devise navigational algorithms for the mobile robots. In this paper, we propose a navigational algorithm that consists of an obstacle-avoidance behavior module, a goal-approach behavior module and a radial basis function network(RBFN) supervisor. In the obstacle-avoidance behavior module and goal-approach behavior module, the fuzzy-artificial immune networks are used to select a proper steering angle which makes the autonomous mobile robot(AMR) avoid obstacles and approach the given goal. The RBFN supervisor is employed to combine the obstacle-avoidance behavior and goal-approach behavior for reliable and smooth motion. The outputs of the RBFN are proper combinational weights for the behavior modules and velocity to steer the AMR appropriately. Some simulations and experiments have been conducted to confirm the validity of the proposed navigational algorithm.

  • This paper describes on-going research, applying an artificial immune system to the problem of network intrusion detection. The paper starts by introducing the motivation and rationale of this research. After describing the overall architecture of the proposed artificial immune system fur network intrusion detection, the real network traffic data and its profile features used in this research are explained. As the first step of this effort, the negative selection algorithm, which is one of three significant evolutionary stages comprising an overall artificial immune system, is investigated and initial results are briefly discussed. Finally, the direction of future work is discussed based on this initial result and the contribution of this research is addressed.

The artificial immune network always has a new parallel decentralized processing mechanism for various situations, since antibodies communicate to each other among different species of antibodies/B-cells through the stimulation and suppression chains among antibodies that form a large-scaled network. In addition to that, the structure of the network is not fixed, but varies continuously. That is, the artificial immune network flexibly self-organizes according to dynamic changes of external environment (meta-dynamics function). However, up to the present time, models based on the conventional crisp approach have been used to describe dynamic model relationship between antibody and antigen. Therefore, there are some problems with a less flexible result to the external behavior. On the other hand, a number of tuning technologies have been considered for the tuning of a PID controller. As a less common method, the fuzzy and neural network or its combined techniques are applied. However, in the case of the latter, yet, it is not applied in the practical field, in the former, a higher experience and technology is required during tuning procedure. In addition to that, tuning performance cannot be guaranteed with regards to a plant with non-linear characteristics or many kinds of disturbances. Along with these, this paper used immune algorithm in order that a PID controller can be more adaptable controlled against the external condition, including moise or disturbance of plant. Parameters P, I, D encoded in antibody randomly are allocated during selection processes to obtain an optimal gain required for plant. The result of study shows the artificial immune can effectively be used to tune, since it can more fit modes or parameters of the PID controller than that of the conventional tuning methods.

Existing network-based IDS's are categorised into three groups and the overall architecture of each group is summarised and assessed. A new methodology to this problem is then presented, which is inspired by the human immune system and based on a novel artificial immune model. The architecture of the model is presented and its characteristics are compared with the requirements of network-based IDS's. The paper concludes that this new approach shows considerable promise for future network-based IDS's
