  • This study was conducted to characterize the gait of a person climbing or descending the stairs. Using our motion analysis system (Vicon 370), gait patterns of ten healthy females (18.8 - 19.6 yrs. old) were measured 1) when a subject tip-toed the stairs, 2) when a subject climbs the stairs with the whole foot, and 3) when a subject went down the stair, respectively. The results of each cases were compared with the data for the level walking collected from 21 healthy females in the previous studies. The stairway gait data can be used as a useful reference in the design of artificial limbs for the lower-limb amputee.

  • This paper proposes an augmented reality technique to generate acrobatic scenes from hitting motion videos. After a user shoots a motion that mimics hitting an object with hands or feet, their pose is analyzed using motion tracking with deep learning to track hand or foot movement while hitting the object. Hitting position and time are then extracted to generate the object's moving trajectory using physics optimization and synchronized with the video. The proposed method can create videos for hitting objects with feet, e.g. soccer ball lifting; fists, e.g. tap ball, etc. and is suitable for augmented reality applications to include virtual objects.

  • Objectives: We analyzed water in waterscape facilities to investigate contamination levels of water-borne pathogens and four test items (pH, turbidity, residual chlorine, and Escherichia coli) at facilities including play fountains, splash parks, and artificial streams from June to October in Suwon City and in the whole of Gyeonggi-do. Methods: A total of 62 waterscape facility samples were collected from 36 sites and tested for pathogenic Escherichia coli and water-borne viruses that cause hand-foot-and-mouth disease, eye disease, and acute enteritis. Results: None of the water-borne pathogens were detected in waterscape facility samples collected from across Gyeonggi-do that were for pre-inspection for facility management. However, the results of samples from Suwon collected in hot weather and during the school vacation period showed five total inconsistencies in turbidity (four cases) and Escherichia coli (one case). Three out of the four inconsistent samples in turbidity were from the same facility which operated a sand filtration system due to its locational factors close to mountains. Conclusion: We suggest that the waterscape facilities in Gyeonggi-do are managed properly in the respect of microbial contamination and water quality.

  • The nutria(Myocastor coypus) that is originated from South America is a representative Invasive alien species in Korea. invasive alien species is one of the biggest causes for the loss of biodiversity and it may threaten the conservation and function of ecology as well as the welfare of mankind. Intense habitation has been made around the Nakdong River basin area that this study has analyzed the habitat density of nutria for the subject of 3 survey sites in the Nakdong River basin area. As a result of survey on habitation density in 2011 and 2012, under St.1 it was shown $2.01{\pm}0.21$/ha in 2011 and $0.69{\pm}0.55$/ha in 2012. Under St.2, it was shown $0.91{\pm}0.37$/ha in 2011 and $0.55{\pm}0.39$/ha in 2012. Under St.3, it was shown $5.31{\pm}0.72$/ha in 2011 and $3.99{\pm}2.31$/ha in 2012. The wet survey areas of St.1 and St.3 had shown relatively high habitation density compared to St. 2, the river survey area, and the average annual habitation density of the survey area was $2.74{\pm}2.29$/ha in 2011 and $1.74{\pm}1.18$/ha in 2012 that it has shown slightly reducing trend. As a result of measuring the morphology by capturing the habitation individuals, the average body length of adults is $92.23{\pm}9.41cm$, the length from the head to body for $53.90{\pm}5.15cm$, tail length for $38.33{\pm}4.83cm$, hind foot length for $13.82{\pm}1.00cm$, front foot length for $6.02{\pm}0.56cm$, and weight for $5.48{\pm}1.08kg$. As a result of comparing the types between genders, male showed a slightly higher figure in all parts compared to female and it showed significantly difference in total body length, head-body length, front foot length and total weight. As a result of analysis for each head-body length, other measured parts, weight and relativity for each measured part, all bodily part is shown to have the higher volume of correlations. The condition index of individuals in the survey area was shown in the average of $35.67{\pm}4.78$ with female for an average of $36.60{\pm}5.19$ and male for an average of $34.73{\pm}4.34$. The winter temperature in the southern area of Korea is considered for not greatly impacting on the habitation and development of nutria that, if there is no artificial control, it is considered to have certain concern of showing drastic breeding and territory expansion for the habitation group.

  • Kicking someone has clothes on causes direct contact between victim's clothes and skin. This contact makes material exchange from skin to inner clothes. In this study, foot impressions by transferred to cloths from skin would be enhanced by amino acid staining reagent (ninhydrin, 1,2-IND/Zn, DFO). In view of research ethics, we conducted this research with porcine skin instead of human's one. To mimic human's skin condition, applied artificial sweat on porcine skin. According to results, ninhydrin showed high contrast on light colored background and 1,2-IND/Zn, DFO showed high contrast on dark colored background. It showed different results up to kind of fabrics.

  • We investigated the processes of egg and larval developments for aquaculture technique development of seedling production fo the flat oyster, Ostrea denselamellosa. Teo flat oyster of larviparous type was different from the pacific oyser (ovivarous type) because their larvae (trochophore and prodissoconch larvae) in the gill released into the seawater. The process of egg development was observed by artificial fertilization at $25^{\circ}C$, using a dissecting method. The sizes of Unfertilized eggs ranged from 80 to 90 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and fertilized eggs with globule-shape was 90-100 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The Polar body appeared after fertilization and egg cleavage began within 1 hour, reaching the blastula stage after 10 hours. The trochophore in the gill appeared 2-3 days after fertilization and grew to the prodissoconch larvae (130 140 $\mu\textrm{m}$) having a complete shell after 1-2 days. The shell of prodissoconch larvae grew to 205 220 $\mu\textrm{m}$ after 10 hours, and then they became umbo stage larvae showing oval in shape. The velum of umbo stage larvae was degenerated about 17-20 days after fertilization and grew into a pediveliger with a developed foot, at this time, the shell length size was 320 360 $\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • Management of chronic wound has been a great problem to many surgeons because the wound is usually associated with an underlying disease of the patient. Without accurate diagnosis and treatment of the disease, the wound can not be healed. Systemic vasculitis is a rare systemic disease which causes inflammation and obstruction of the vessels. This autoimmune disease involves multiple organs and may inflict skin wound spontaneously without traumas. It would improve or aggravate the wound in proportion to the activities of the disease. Our experience is a case of 28-year-old female who has had chronic ulcers on her right foot, especially on the great toe for 1 year. Although she had several operations of sympathectomy, debridement and artificial dermal graft, her wound was not improved. She has been diagnosed as systemic vasculitis during the evaluation for histopathology and cause of fever and pancytopenia. After medical treatments, she had the operation of adipofascial turnover flap coverage and skin graft, and the wound was improved without any complication or relapse. The diagnosis and treatment of the underlying disease should be ahead of the management of chronic wound.

  • The envelope of the rnannnalian oocyte plays crucial roles in sperm-oocyte interactions by providing sperm receptors, inducing acrosome reaction and preventing polyspermy. Understanding of properties of the zona pellucida (ZP) is essential for the artificial control of fertility in mammals. This study was carried out to produce and characterize monoclonal antibodies(MAbs) to porcine ZP proteins. Approximately 8,000 ZPs were obtained from follicular oocytes and dissolved in 40$\mu$l of double distilled water. Following immunization through foot-pad injections of Balb /c mice with a ZP solution, the popliteal lymph nodes were recovered at 2 weeks after the last injection. Hybridoma cell lines were established by fusing lymph node cells with P3X63 myeloma cells through selection using HAT medium and screening by immunofluorescence(IF) microscopy on the isolated ZP. Secreted MAbs were found to consist k chains and different heavy chains as evidenced by isotyping. Some of the MAbs demonstrated high specificity to the ZP in IF. The Mabs also showed positive cross reactivity with hamster and mouse eggs, while negative with bovine eggs. The results implicate that the MAbs can be used not only for identification of functional regions of the ZP, but also for elucidation of mechanisms involved in fertilization of mammals. The MAbs will provide basic information on biochemical anatomy of the ZP as well as can be candidates for the future contraceptive vaccines.

  • In this study, we would be developed the fuzzy controlled PGO that controlled the flexion and the extension of each PGO's hip joint using the bio-signal and FSR sensor. The PGO driving system is to couple the right and left sides of the orthosis by specially designed hip joints and pelvic section. This driving system consists of the orthosis, sensor, control system. An air supply system of muscle is composed of an air compressor, 2-way solenoid valve (MAC, USA), accumulator, pressure sensor. Role of this system provide air muscle with the compressed air at hip joint constantly. According to output signal of EMG sensor and foot sensor, air muscles and assists the flexion of hip joint during PGO gait. As a results, the maximum hip flexion angles of RGO's gait and PGO's gait were about $16^{\circ}\;and\;57^{\circ}$ respectively. The maximum angle of flexion/extention in hip joint of the patients during RGO's gait are smaller than normal gait, because of the step length of them shoes a little bit. But maximum angle of flexion/extention in hip joint of the patients during PGO's gait are larger than normal gait.

  • The purpose of this study was to kinematically analyze the differences between short(2.17 m) and long(10.94 m) putting stroke motions. Thirteen male professional golfers were participated in this study. Experiment was conducted on the artificial grass mat in the gymnasium. Kinematic data were collected by the 60 Hz Kwon3D motion analysis system. Differences were compared by SPSS paired t-test and one-way ANOVA. Duncan was used for post-hoc test and a=.05. The results were as follows: 1. Ground projected trajectory of the putter head were statistically straight during both short and long putts. 2. There was no consistent alignment tendency among shoulder, hip, and stance alignments. However stance alignment was consistent between short and long putts. Thus it is assumed that professional golfers align their body based on their stance alignment. 3. During putting, shoulder rotated not only up and down but also right and left. 4. Left and right elbow distance was maintained during all phases of the putts for both short and long putts. 5. Inter foot distance of long putting was longer than that of short putting.
