An Improved Approach for 3D Hand Pose Estimation Based on a Single Depth Image and Haar Random Forest

  • A vision-based 3D tracking of articulated human hand is one of the major issues in the applications of human computer interactions and understanding the control of robot hand. This paper presents an improved approach for tracking and recovering the 3D position and orientation of a human hand using the Kinect sensor. The basic idea of the proposed method is to solve an optimization problem that minimizes the discrepancy in 3D shape between an actual hand observed by Kinect and a hypothesized 3D hand model. Since each of the 3D hand pose has 23 degrees of freedom, the hand articulation tracking needs computational excessive burden in minimizing the 3D shape discrepancy between an observed hand and a 3D hand model. For this, we first created a 3D hand model which represents the hand with 17 different parts. Secondly, Random Forest classifier was trained on the synthetic depth images generated by animating the developed 3D hand model, which was then used for Haar-like feature-based classification rather than performing per-pixel classification. Classification results were used for estimating the joint positions for the hand skeleton. Through the experiment, we were able to prove that the proposed method showed improvement rates in hand part recognition and a performance of 20-30 fps. The results confirmed its practical use in classifying hand area and successfully tracked and recovered the 3D hand pose in a real time fashion.

  • In the present paper, V-to-V coarticulation in Korean VCV sequences is discussed, focusing on links between consonantal production and degree of V-to-V coarticulation. Temporal and spatial differences between three types of Korean alveolar stops (lax /t/. aspirated /$t^h$/ and thense /t'/) are examined from VCV sequences involving all possible combinations of three Korean unrounded vowels /a, i,/ based on spectrographic and electrographic data(two male speakers and one female speaker and one female speaker respectively). Closure duration and voice onset time (VOT) were measured from acoustic data. 'Total duration', which is defined as the sum of the closure duration and the VOT, was also calculated in order to see the temporal distance between two vowels in a VCV sequence. Differences in lingual-palatal contact pattern at the maximum contact (MC) point between the three types of stop were observed from EPG data. V-to-V coarticulation was investigated by measuring the offset or onset of the second formant (F2) of the target vowels from spectrograms. Two different dimensions of articulation, temporal and spatial, seem to playa role in determining the degree of V-to-V coarticulation. The degree of V-to-V anticipatory coarticulation is influenced by the spatial characteristics of the intervening consonant while the degree of carryover coarticulation is influenced by the temporal characteristics of the consonant.

음절신호의 음소 분리와 시간-주파수 판별 패턴의 설정 (Phoneme Separation and Establishment of Time-Frequency Discriminative Pattern on Korean Syllables)

  • 본 논문은 음절을 음소로 분리하고 각각의 특징을 추출하여 음소를 판별할 수 있는 패턴을 설정하는 실험에 관한 연구이다. 음소분리는 피치검출, 각 성문피크펄스의 폭, 포락실, 진폭의 바이어스, 발성시간 등의 파라메타를 적용한다. 최초의 피치는 성문펄스의 폭, 에너지, 정규화와 성문피크의 가변바이어스 등의 변화에 따라 모음 포라선의 봉우리 부분에서 검출, 이를 기준으로 전체의 피치구간을 추적한다. 모음은 포만트 패턴의 유동을 감소시키는 방법과 제2포만트만으로 모음의 판별이 가능함을 제시하며, 피치 고저에 무관한 압축파형을 추정한다. 자음은 포락실, 스펙트럼, 압추파형, 분석방법 등을 발음방법과 음소 상호 영향에서 패턴을 추출한다. 실험결과 모음음소 90%, 초성자음80%, 종성자음 60% 판별된다.

  • This research is to apply the control of neuron networks for the real-time walking control of Multi-articulated robot. Multi-articulated robot is expressed with a complicated mathematical model on account of the mechanic, electric non-linearity which each articulation of mechanism has, and includes an unstable factor in time of walking control. If such a complex expression is included in control operation, it leads to the disadvantage that operation time is lengthened. Thus, if the rapid change of the load or the disturbance is given, it is difficult to fulfill the control of desired performance. This paper proposes a new mode to implement a neural network controller by installing a real object for controlling and an algorithm for this, which can replace the existing method of implementing a neural network controller by utilizing activation function at the output node. The proposed control algorithm generated control signs corresponding to the non-linearity of Multi-articulated robot, which could generate desired motion in real time.

동북아 중심항만 구축을 위한 컨테이너 터미널의 개발 및 운영전략 (Strategies for Container Terminal Development and Operation for the Hub Port in Northeast Asia)

  • This paper aims to suggest the strategies for Korea port, especially Busan to develope into a viable transhipment center and/or Hub port as the articulation points between mainline and feeder nets. To tackle this goal, the authors clarify the requirements for Korea port which will be critical in determining its position as Hub trough the careful analysis on competitiveness, environmental impact, port policy and capacity, transhipment traffic and inherent ability to generate traffic. The results are summerized as follows. (1) Coping with increasing container volumes, new investment is sustainedly necessary to increase the capacity and inherent ability of container port and create economies of scale. Moreover, increasing port capacity will increase the potential for the Korea port's inclusion into mainline rather than feeder networks. (2) Considering an increasing awareness of need for customer-oriented operations and service quality rather than simply a reliance on infrastructure-led efficiency, privatization of one sort or another and corporation of port have been key strategies in achieving greater efficiency in Korea containerport.

Hand Gesture Recognition Using an Infrared Proximity Sensor Array

  • Hand gesture is the most common tool used to interact with and control various electronic devices. In this paper, we propose a novel hand gesture recognition method using fuzzy logic based classification with a new type of sensor array. In some cases, feature patterns of hand gesture signals cannot be uniquely distinguished and recognized when people perform the same gesture in different ways. Moreover, differences in the hand shape and skeletal articulation of the arm influence to the process. Manifold features were extracted, and efficient features, which make gestures distinguishable, were selected. However, there exist similar feature patterns across different hand gestures, and fuzzy logic is applied to classify them. Fuzzy rules are defined based on the many feature patterns of the input signal. An adaptive neural fuzzy inference system was used to generate fuzzy rules automatically for classifying hand gestures using low number of feature patterns as input. In addition, emotion expression was conducted after the hand gesture recognition for resultant human-robot interaction. Our proposed method was tested with many hand gesture datasets and validated with different evaluation metrics. Experimental results show that our method detects more hand gestures as compared to the other existing methods with robust hand gesture recognition and corresponding emotion expressions, in real time.

  • 음성은 개별 조음 기관(입술, 혓끝, 혓몸, 연구개, 성문)에서 일어나는 협착 운동들의 시공간적 협응 구조라 할 수 있다. 다른 인간의 운동(예: 잡기)과 마찬가지로 각각의 협착 운동은 언어학적으로 의미 있는 task이며, 각 task는 그것과 관계된 기본 요소들의 시너지에 의해 수행된다. 본 연구는 이러한 음성 task가 어떻게 기본 요소들인 joint와 동역학적으로 연계될 수 있는지를 로보틱스의 관점에서 논의하고자 한다. 나아가 로보틱스의 기본 원리를 음성과학 분야에 소개함으로써 운동으로서의 음성이 어떻게 발화되는지에 대한 더 깊은 이해를 가능케 하고, 실제 인간의 조음을 모방한 말하는 기계를 구현하는 데 필요한 이론적 토대를 제공하고자 한다.

디지털 게임에 나타난 포스트휴먼 캐릭터 분석 (An Analysis of Posthuman Characters in Digital Games)

  • 본 연구는 디지털 게임에 나타난 포스트휴먼 캐릭터의 신체 이미지와 게임 플레이를 통해 형성되는 유목적 주체를 분석했다. 유목적 주체란 복합적이고 단일하지 않은 정체성을 지닌 주체로 포스트휴먼 정체성으로 나타난다. 최근 디지털 게임에서 포스트휴먼 신체를 가진 캐릭터가 나타나고 있으며, 플레이어가 캐릭터를 직접 조작하는 과정에서 포스트휴먼을 직접적으로 경험하게 된다. 포스트휴먼 캐릭터의 신체 이미지는 이상화된 신체를 모방하는 유형, 절합을 통해서 신체를 변형하는 유형, 장비를 통해서 신체를 확장하는 유형으로 구분된다. 플레이어는 게임의 제약 아래 선택을 통해서 분기형 서사를 진행해 나가면서 윤리적 정체성을 구축하게 된다.

프린터 음질평가를 위한 순음도 설계 (Tonality Design for Sound Quality Evaluation in Printer)

  • The operating sound radiated from a laser printer includes tonal noise components caused by the rotating mechanical parts such as gear, shaft, motor, fan, etc. The negative effects of the tonal noise components need to be considered in the process of developing a sound quality index for the quantitative evaluation of the emotional satisfaction in terms of psycho-acoustics. However, in a previous paper, it was confirmed that the Aures tonality did not have enough correlation with the results of jury evaluation. The sound quality index based on loudness, articulation index, fluctuation strength has a little problem in considering the effects of rotating mechanical parts on the sound quality. In this paper, to solve the tonality evaluation problem, the calculation algorithm of Aures tonality was investigated in detail to find the cause of decreasing the correlation. The new tonality evaluation model was proposed by modifying and optimizing the masking effect, loudness ratio, and shape of weighting curve based on the basic algorithm of Aures tonality, and applied to two kinds of operating sound groups in order to verify the usefulness of proposed model. As a result, it is confirmed that the proposed tonality evaluation model has enough correlation and usefulness for expressing the tonalness in the operating sounds of laser printers. In the following paper, this results will be used to model the sound quality index as the input data by using the classification algorithm.

컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 이용한 음의 사각지역 및 음상의 경제적 개선방안 연구 (A Study for economic improvement of sound image localization and dead zone using computer simulations)

  • 본 논문에서는 대형 교회를 제외한 대부분의 교회가 협소한 공간에 많은 청중을 수용하고자 발코니 층을 설치하여 음의 사각지역 및 음상 정위가 어긋난 지역이 발생하는 문제를 경제적 관점에서 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 음의 사각지역 및 음상의 개선하는 해결방안을 제시한다. 본 연구에서는 특정교회에 대하여 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 툴로 경제적으로 쉽게 구할 수 있는 Mapp online으로 사용하였으며, 서브 스피커의 추가 설치 및 메인 스피커 대비 서브 스피커의 -10 dB 이득조절로 명료도를 실측값과 비교한 결과 약 52% 상승하여 명료도가 "보통"에서 "아주 좋음" 단계로 개선됨을 확인할 수 있었다.
