  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate visual arts in interactive technology in art museum applications and to analyze the impact relationship between interactive technology and the five senses. This study was conducted to survey respondents who had used art museum applications. The results are as follows. First, this study evaluates the differences in perception of art museum applications according to the general characteristics of the respondents. They show that there are differences in gender, marital status, age, and social income. Second, this study identifies the impact of five senses and synesthesia on interaction design among emotional design elements. They reveal that visual, auditory, tactile components, and synesthesia have significant effects on interactive design. This study reveals that emotional design elements of art museum applications affect interaction design. Also, it suggests that research on interaction design reflecting five senses is continuously needed to improve audience satisfaction and revitalize art museum applications.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the phenomenological approaches in Holl's architecture centered on his Nelson-Atkins Art Museum. This study mainly deals with concrete and practical architectural contents based on his recent works rather than existing studies about philosophical point of views to his architecture. Because Holl has had turning point from theoretical research to practical application and development stage. Therefore, this study aims to find out Holl's phenomenological approaches that were different from his early works. Nelson-Atkins art museum shows effect of luminosity as well as inflow of light in the phenomenological experiences of light and space. Holl gave new addition building that he designed contrasts of massing, transparency of material, colors to enhance existence of new building through phenomenological experiences. Narrow and long circulation and various focal points provide multi-view points and overlapped spaces in body experiences As a result, Holl shows shifts from theoretical application to architectural utilization. Nelson-Atkins art museum is important in that this project is one of stating points about this shift.

  • Art Museum Archives are archives that are created by individuals and organizations that have a sufficient worth that necessitate permanent preservation. Art Museum Archives, which include various medium and types, are archives that have information and evidence based value, and are established and supported for the research of the Art Museum and Art History. For the systematic implementation and application of an Art Museum Archive, there is a need to establish related description elements, and through this not only must information on the individual archives be provided, but through a high utility finding aid, the creation context of the archived document should be provided so that users of the archive can easily access documents. In the case of Korean Art Museum Archives, there is a tendency to focus on the fragmented informational value of an individual archive document, which in reality causes the structural and contextual element characteristic of the document to be destroyed. Therefore this research supports the Hierarchical Description of Art Museum Archives and has the objective of proposing Art Archive Description Elements that promote the preservation of creation context and effective utilization. In addition, because personal records take up a large portion of Art Archives and are very diverse in terms of medium and type, a Description Element that can reflect this is attempted to be proposed.

  • The biggest challenge of managing mobile interpretative device is that visitors do not have the mobile experience. Thus, in the research of the mobile application of the Leeum (Samsung Museum of Art), a short orientation session as a treatment was provided to survey participants to make them use of a mobile experience. The orientation solved the problem of hesitancy of using smartphone in other researches, it was simultaneously the uniqueness of the methodology. Based on the research data, their satisfaction with visiting experience and with using the application appeared to be relatively high. A half of participants used the application for 10 minutes which is accounted for 20-30% of the total viewing time. Participants (80.3%) engaged in each exhibit with the application in less than 30 sec.-1 minute. Comparing with the average time of engagement (10-30 sec.) for each exhibit without using mobile applications, it is possible to conclude that the mobile application notably contributed to make participants engage with exhibits longer.

  • Beijing, the capital city of China, has gradually increased its amount of culture space and has also introduced a diverse range of cultural facilities to improve the satisfaction of its citizens lives. In particular are its art museums, which are a symbol of the urban culture and enrich the cultural life of its citizens and are also expected to play a role as a psychological pivot point. However, in comparison with the characteristics of various ethics, local, and the influence on the museums of China, studies which analyze the exterior of the art museums are not sufficient. This is because previous research has focused too heavily on the interior of the art museums. This paper aims to derive distinction through the analysis of the exterior of several art museums and present design factors and application methodology. This research looks at art museums in China and analyzes the current state of the art museums that have been developed based on the culture of Beijing. Through analyzing the case study of five art museums that have been selected in Beijing we can improve our understanding of Chinese culture space and derive distinct design factors. Distinct factors in the exterior of art museums include connection, culture, geographic features, public, and creation. This study is expected to contribute to that exterior of the art museum will be as a contact zone to form a spatial connection and a cultural symbol that can reflect Beijing's unique culture characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the way of embodying architectural concept in Nussbaum Museum for complementing present abstract and generalized research. This study tries to examine the close relationship between a certain concept and Nussbaum museum through analyzing architectural characteristics and searching its principles by concrete application of concept. The Architectural concept "Museum without exit", which Libeskind applied to Nussbaum Museum, is based on the dramatic life of Jewish painter Felix Nussbaum with relation to Holocaust, physical background of site and features of program, Libeskind Applied his architectural concept from the beginning to the most parts of the museum. His new museum subverts notions and logic of general features of existing museums. Libeskind's architectural concepts are especially applied to site plan, massing, circulation and spatial configuration. "Museum without exit" creates labyrinth like circulation based on stories including Nussbaum's life, his painting tendency and circumstances of those days. It also realize sensuous space through spatial shape and light control. Although some critics criticize that this museum is not suitable for paint collection because of overwhelming strength of architectural space. However, considering this museum's function of a kind of Holocaust museum beyond personal art gallery, Libeskind's 'museum without exit' shows effective realization of architectural concept for Jewish painter Felix Nussbaum's museum.

  • The emergence of digital media has enabled visitors' active intervention based on the existing art information archiving. Accordingly, this study was conducted to analyze how archiving data that art museums have developed so farcan be provided significantly to visitors and generate a contemporary appreciation code. This study intended to solve the problems in case study analysis through the restructuralization of information that reflected visitors' appreciation activities as the principal agent. The structure of information, which was reframed for multilayered information approach and use by keyword, is meaningful as it has developed an information structure to mainly enhance visitors' understanding. It is expected that the use of art information proposed in this study will be helpful for setting the specific direction of actual transmedia storytelling service by art museums based on web later on.

  • The lastest art is being characterised by an ever active exchange between different genre. This is a study on the installation aspect in deconstruction architectured and interior design. The progressive and aggressive nature of installatation art embodies uncatagorized genre, the freedom of material application, introduction of the notion of time in space, the reversion of subject and object, the union of art and every experience, understanding of object through deconstruction, enlargement of concept of space, collage-style composition and layer technique. I can conclude that the installation aspect in Tshumi's Parc de la Villette is its call upon the audience to actively participate, the introduction of a coincidental conjunction, its challenge on the conventional idea of park and its flexibility caused by human activity and time. In Hadid's Hong Kong Peak Club the installation aspect is the application of layer technique using four enormous beams horizontally laid out on a man-made moutain. Furthermore, Libeskind's pursuit of the mental in Berlin Museum Extension through the penetration of an invisible line into a void creates a new interpretation of the role of a museum and thus relates itself to installation art. The installation aspect in Himmelblau's Vienna Roof Renovation is the literal deconstruction of the roof of an old building in the old section of Wien and the expression of time and space through the interrelationship between interior and exterior environment by the use of juxtaposition technique. Finally, I note that the installation aspect in Gehry's Santa Monica Residence is the reorganization of cheap material as a form of 'object', that creates spon-taneity, movement as well as flow of time in space and ex-hibit the double-sidedness of the visible world.
