Block copolymers with well-defined nanoscopic structures have recently gained much attention for their potential uses as functional nanostructures. Here, we show that nanoporous templates made from polystyrene-block-poly (methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) satisfy a novel design concept. At first, arrays of nanoscopic cylindrical microdomains oriented normal to the surface can easily be prepared. Then, we fabricated ultra high density arrays of conducting polymer as poly(pyrrole) (Ppy) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanowires with diameters of $25{\sim}40\;nm$ on the ITO glass by electropolymerization of the monomers inside nanoholes. These high density arrays of conducting polymer nanowires could be used as P-type materials for photovoltaic devices.
Conformational heterogeneity of directly linked multiporphyrin arrays with larger molecular length retards their utilities in practical applications such as two-photon absorption and molecular photonic wire. In this regard, here we adopted a way to overcome the conformational heterogeneity through hydrogen bonding by selective binding of meso aryl substituents of porphyrins (host) with urea (guest) to form helical structure. Using steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy, we observed the enhanced fluorescence quantum yield by ~1.8 to 2.4 times, enhanced anisotropy values and the disappearance of fast fluorescence decay component in the host-guest helical forms. In addition, the enhanced nonlinear optical responses of helical arrays infer the extended inter-porphyrin electronic coupling due to a significant change in dihedral angle between the neighboring porphyrin moieties. The current host-guest strategy will provide a guideline to improve the structural homogeneity of the photonic wire.
In this work, Integral photography with variable focusing lens arrays is proposed. We fabricate two-dimensional liquid crystal lens arrays using cohesion of UV curable polymer and lithography. Applied voltage to the cell alters the effective refractive index of the liquid crystal layer and results in a change of the focal length. By adjusting the focal length, synchronized elemental image array for real or virtual mode is integrated in front of or behind the lens array.
Josephson junction arrays of the type $Nb/Al-Al_2O_3/Nb$ were prepared by DC magnetron sputtering. The tunnel barrier was formed by in-situ thermal oxidation. Individual junctions were defined using selective niobium etching process(SNEP). The characteristic curves of Josephson junction arrays fabricated with and without cooling the substrate were represented. The junctions deposited without cooling showed poor characteristics(high leakage current, low gap voltage), and a high quality Josephson junction array of 2,000 junctions with high hysteresis was obtained with cooling and when operated at 74.6 GHz, it generated stable quantized voltage steps up to 2.2 V.

This paper proposes systolic array architectures for compuataion of the 1-D and 2-D discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The proposed systolic array for compuataion of the 1-D DWT consists of L processing element (PE) arrays, where the PE array denotes the systolic array for computation of the one level DWT. The proposed PE array computes only the product terms that are required for further computation and the outputs of low and high frequency filters are computed in alternate clock cycles. Therefore, the proposed architecuter can compute the low and high frequency outputs using a single architecture. The proposed systolic array for computation of the 2-D DWT consists of two systolic array architectures for comutation of the 1-D DWT and memory unit. The required time and hardware cost of the proposed systolic arrays are comparable to those of the conventional architectures. However, the conventional architectures need extra processing units whereas the proposed architectures fo not. The proposed architectures can be applied to subband decomposition by simply changing the filter coefficients.

In this paper, we present a simple design method and measurement results for circular loop antenna arrays, which can be used for LS band operation, such as access point antennas in the wireless LAN system. It has been shown that the input impedance of a circular loop can be adjusted near 100 $\Omega$ using a short stub. The length of the stub can be immediately determined in the work place through the measurement of S11 with a network analyzer. Fabricated arrays show high antenna gains as much as 12.4㏈i and 15.1 ㏈i at the center frequency of 2.45 ㎓ for 4${\times}$l and 4${\times}$2 array, respectively. These types of loop arrays can be fabricated at a low cost.
We propose an optimal design to improve the muffler's capacity by reducing the noise of the intake system by adapting kriging method with the robust design. For the first stage of a design, the length and radius of each component of the current muffler system are selected as control factors. Then, the $L_18$ table of orthogonal arrays is adapted to extract the effective main factors. As the second stage, the $L_18$ table of orthogonal arrays using kriging method is adapted to take the significant factors into consideration. As an optimal design, the $L_18$ table of orthogonal arrays with main effects is proposed and the kriging method is adapted for more efficient design. The kriging method improves the performance of intake system.
We characterized nanoelectrode arrays prepared from self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) by adsorption from a solution containing thiolated $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD) and n-alkanethiol on the gold electrode surface, using electrochemical methods. While the framework, the n-hexadecanethiol SAM, effectively blocked electron transfer between the electrode surface and solution-phase redox probe molecules, the $\beta$-CD cavities isolated in the forests of n-hexadecanethiol molecules were shown to act as an ultramicroelectrode array. The shapes of cyclic voltammograms of probe molecules were related to the number densities of $\beta$-CD molecules within the monolayer films. Probe molecules that have the correct combination of physical and chemical characteristics were shown to effectively penetrate the framework through the $\beta$-CD pores and exchange electrons with the electrode surface.

We propose two architectures using two dimensional systolic arrays for the DCT/DST/DHT. One decomposes the N-point DCT/DST/DHT into even-and odd-numbered frequency samples, and then computes them independently at the same time. In addition, the proposed architecture can be used for the IDCT/IDST/IDHT. Anogher is the modified version for the DHT/IDHT. Two proposed architectures generate outputs sequentially using real multiplications and additions. As compared to the conventional methods the proposed systolic arrays exhibit many advantages in terms of simplicity of the processing element (PE), latency, and throughput. Teh simulation results using VHDL, international standard language for hardware description, show the effectiveness of the proposed architecture.

Average heat transfer coefficients and friction coefficients have been measured from staggered short pin-fin arrays to investigate the effect of fin shapes. Flow entering into the test section is a fully developed duct flow and the Reynolds number ranges from 5,000 to 25,000 based on fin diameter and average approaching velocity. The fin has three different shapes; uniform-diameter circular fin, two stepped-diameter circular fins. Average heat transfer rates change slightly with the fin shapes. However, friction loss(pressure loss) for the stepped-diameter fins is significantly less than that for the uniform-diameter fin. This results indicate that the stepped-diameter fin arrays in duct flow enhance heat transfer rates largely based on unit pumping power.
