  • A device that consists of an array of hydrofoils (called a vane deployer) is widely used in ocean engineering. In general, the vane deployer has to spread out efficiently, which is possible by enhancing the lift-to-drag ratio. In the present study, using a computational fluid dynamics, we investigate the effect of hydrofoil arrangement on the lift-to-drag ratio to establish the condition in which a reasonable level of constant lift-to-drag ratio is achieved in a wide range of angle of attack, to avoid a degradation of the hydrodynamic performance. First, the flow around two-dimensional hydrofoil array is examined by varying the size of hydrofoil components, gap between the hydrofoils, and arrangement type. As a result, we determine the optimized hydrofoil array configuration whose lift-to-drag ratio is nearly independent on the angle of attack. Finally, a three-dimensional simulation is performed for the optimized geometry to estimate the performance of actual vane deployer.

  • In this paper, we investigated the sensitivity of aerostatic force coefficients of multi-layer radom in the various wind speeds. The test was conducted in KOCED Wind Tunnel Center in Chonbuk National University, and wind speeds were in the range from 5 m/s to 26 m/s in order to determine the Reynolds number independence. The test results of present multi-layer radom were not affected by the Reynolds number, The maximum positive pressure coefficient was found to be 1.08 at the center of the front of the plane in angle of attack of 0 degree, the maximum negative pressure coefficient was -2.03 at the upper right corner in angle of attack of 120 degree, while maximum drag coefficient was 1.11 in angle of attack of 180 degree.

  • Separation control has been performed using the multi-array/multi-location synthetic jet on NACA23012 at high angle of attack. The flow control using single synthetic jet shows that stall characteristics can be substantially improved with delayed separation point. Theses results show the characteristic of unsteady flow of single synthetic jet. Beside, we researched on multi-array synthetic jet to obtain applicable synthetic jet velocity. Multi-location synthetic jet is proposed to eliminate small vortex on suction surface of airfoil. With the results, we concluded that the flow around airfoil is stable by high frequency synthetic jet with elimination of small vortex and confirmation of stable flow. Moreover, performance of multi-array/multi-location synthetic jet can be improved by changing phase angle of multi-location synthetic jet.

  • The Deep Draft Semi-Submersible (DDS) concepts are known for their favourable vertical motion performance. However, the DDS may experience critical Vortex-Induced Motion (VIM) stemming from the fluctuating forces on the columns. In order to investigate the current-induced excitation forces of VIM, an experimental study of flow characteristics around four square-section cylinders in a square configuration is presented. A number of column spacing ratios and array attack angles were considered to investigate the parametric influences. The results comprise flow patterns, drag and lift forces, as well as Strouhal numbers. It is shown that both the drag and lift forces acting on the cylinders are slightly different between the various L/D values, and the fluctuating forces peak at L/D = 4.14. The lift force of downstream cylinders reaches its maximum at around ${\alpha}=15^{\circ}$. Furthermore, the flow around circular-section-cylinder arrays is also discussed in comparison with that of square cylinders.

  • The present study investigates convective heat/mass transfer and flow characteristics inside the cooling passage of the gas-turbine blades. It is important to increase not only the heat transfer rates but also the uniformity of heat transfer in the cooling passage. The square duct has compound-angled ribs with $60^{\circ},\;70^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ attack angles, which are installed on the test plate surfaces. a naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat transfer coefficients using the heat and mass transfer analogy. The ribs disturb the main flow resulting in the recirculation and secondary flows near the ribbed wall and the vertices near the side-wall. The local heat transfer and the secondary flow in the duct are changed largely according to the rib orientation. Therefore, geometry and arrangement of the ribs are important fur the advantageous cooling performance. The angled ribs increase the heat transfer discrepancy between the wall and center regions because of the interaction of the secondary flows. The average heat/mass transfer coefficient and pressure drop of the ribs with the $60^{\circ}$ $-90^{\circ}$ compound-angle are higher than those with the $60^{\circ}$ attack angle. Also, the thermal efficiency of the compound-angled rib is higher than that with the $60^{\circ}$ attack angle. The uniformity of heat/mass transfer coefficient on the cross ribs may is higher than that on the parallel ribs array.

  • Numerical solutions of Stokes flow through periodic arrays of cylinders were sought using Darcy's law and homogenization theory. Drag and lift forces of each cylinder were computed for various attack angles and pitch-to-diameter ratios. It was found that drag force decreased as principal pressure gradient direction deviated from array direction and that drag force increased exponentially as pitch-to-diameter ratio approached unity. Similar tendency was found in lift force except that lift force increased and then decreased in quadratic manner as attack angle varied.

  • Separation control has been performed using synthetic jets on airfoil at high angle of attack. Computed results demonstrated that stall characteristics and control surface performance could be substantially improved by resizing separation vortices. It was observed that the actual flow control mechanism and flow structure is fundamentally different depending on the range of synthetic jet frequency. For low frequency range, small vortices due to synthetic jet penetrated to the large leading edge separation vortex, and as a result, the size of the leading edge vortex was remarkably reduced. For high frequency range, however, small vortex did not grow up enough to penetrate into the leading edge separation vortex. Instead, synthetic jet firmly attached the local flow and influenced the circulation of the virtual airfoil shape which is the combined shape of the main airfoil with the separation vortex.

  • This paper deals with optimal mooring system to secure fish cage in a desired location, Through field investigation and paper works, we surveyed disasters by breakdown of cage frame and mooring system due to higher wave attack and selected compliant buoy mooring method for shallow water mooring system against severe coastal external forces. To analyze interaction between external forces and compliant buoy mooring system, theoretical model has developed as quasi-static nonlinear analysis. After verifying the feasibility of the numerical model compared with experiment, static analysis has tried for various mooring systems with different angle of array, number of mooring points, length of horizontal and inclined rope. Optimal mooring method using compliant buoy has selected for fish cage through numerical simulation. This results can apply for preliminary design for cage mooring system.
