  • The reaction of 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo[16.4.0$0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]docosane ($L^1$) with formaldehyde in warm methanol yielded 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo[16.4.$1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^7$) containing one 1,3-diazacyclohexane subunit. In methanol, $L^7$ readily reacts with $Cu^{2+}$ ion to form [$CuL^7(H_2O)$]$^{2+}$ which is extremely inert against methanolysis. In the solution containing $Ni^{2+}$ ion, however, $L^7$ reacts with methanol to yield [$NiL^3$]$^{2+}$ ($L^3$ = 2-(methoxymethyl)-5,16-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[16.4.$0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]- docosane), in which one N-$CH_2OCH_3$ pendant arm is appended. The copper(II) complex [$CuL^7(H_2O)$]- $(ClO_4)_2{\cdot}3H_2O\;(I{\cdot}3H_2O)$ has a severely distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry with a 4-5- 6-5 chelate ring sequence. The crystal structure of [$NiL^3$]$(PF_6)_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ (IIb) shows that the N-$CH_2OCH_3$ pendant arm is not coordinated to the metal ion in the solid state. In various solvents (S), however, the nickel(II) complex exists as a mixture of [$NiL^3$(S)]$^{2+}$, in which the N-$CH_2OCH_3$ group as well as S is coordinated to the metal ion, and [$NiL^3$]^{2+}.

  • In this contribution, a 193-bit elliptic curve cryptography coprocessor was implemented on an FPGA board. Optimized algorithms and numerical expressions which had been verified through C program simulation, should be analyzed again with HDL (hardware description language) such as Verilog, so that the verified ones could be modified to be applied directly to hardware implementation. The reason is that the characteristics of C programming language design is intrinsically different from the hardware design structure. The hardware IP which was double-checked in view of hardware structure together with algoritunic verification, was implemented on the Altera CycloneII FPGA device equipped with ARM9 microprocessor core, to a real chip prototype, using Altera embedded system development tool kit. The implemented finite field calculation IPs can be used as library modules as Elliptic Curve Cryptography finite field operations which has more than 193 bit key length.

  • Cigarette smoking (SM) is considered to be well known environmental toxin which contributes to the onset of various diseases. SM cause direct lungs damage, activate lungs inflammatory responses, and in some cases leads to the development of lung cancer. Cytokines in injured starfish (Asterina pectinifera) is the potential changes in its expression during the regeneration process. Especially, expression of TGF-${\beta}1$ has increased in arm cut starfish extract after eight days. Also, starfish including saponin like the ginseng. Saponin is widely used in the world because of some effective pharmacological activities. Therefore, the current study was designed to elucidate the pharmacological activities of starfish extract against cigarette smoking induced damage in cell line and pulmonary tissue. We investigate that the effect of eight days starfish extract after arm cut (8d) and intact starfish extract on cell line and mouse lung injury by SM. In cell proliferation analysis, although cigarette smoking extract (CSE) was co-treated, the higher proliferation ability is shown in 8d treatment than intact starfish extract. 8d and intact starfish extract was directly transported to pulmonary cells through respiratory organ by nebulizer inhalation. In this case of cigarette smoking, the pulmonary structure was damaged and functions become abnormal. However, 8d treated groups showed similar with the control group compared with SM group. Among them, 8d was proved to be more effective than intact starfish extract. These results demonstrate that 8d could more protect pulmonary structure and function than intact starfish extract against cigarette smoking by ginseng like saponin and regulation of inflammatory cytokines.

  • The human Y chromosome is strictly paternally inherited and does not X-Y crossing over during male meiosis in most of its length. Although this region came to be known as the non-recombining region Y (NRY), it was renamed as male-specific region Y (MSY) due to abundant recombination. The MSY is a mosaic of heterochromatic sequences and three classes of euchromatic sequences: X-transposed, X-degenerated and ampliconic. The X-transposed sequences exhibit 99% identity to the X chromosomal sequences. The X-degenerate sequences are remnants of ancient autosomes from which the modem X and Y chromosomes evolved. Eight palindromes of the ampliconic comprise one-quarter of the euchromatic DNA of the male-specific region of the human Y chromosome. They contain many testis-specific genes and typically exhibit 99.97% intra-palindromic (arm-to-arm) sequence identity. The arms of these palindromes must have subsequently engaged in gene conversion, driving the pair arms to evolve it concert. Averages of approximately 600 nucleotides per newborn male have undergone Y-Y gene conversion, which has had an important role in the evolution of multi-copy testis gene families in the MSY.

  • Background: Although a physician may be the nearest to the radiation source during C-arm fluoroscope-guided interventions, the radiographer is also near the fluoroscope. We prospectively investigated the radiation exposure of radiographers relative to their location. Methods: The effective dose (ED) was measured with a digital dosimeter on the radiographers' left chest and the side of the table. We observed the location of the radiographers in each procedure related to the mobile support structure of the fluoroscope (Groups A, M and P). Data about age, height, weight, sex, exposure time, radiation absorbed dose (RAD), and the ED at the radiographer's chest and the side of the table was collected. Results: There were 51 cases for Group A, 116 cases for Group M and 144 cases for Group P. No significant differences were noted in the demographic data such as age, height, weight, and male to female ratio, and exposure time, RAD and ED at the side of the table. Group P had the lowest ED ($0.5{\pm}0.8{\mu}Sv$) of all the groups (Group A, $1.6{\pm}2.3{\mu}Sv$; Group M, $1.3{\pm}1.9{\mu}Sv$; P < 0.001). The ED ratio (ED on the radiographer's chest/ED at the side of the table) of Group A was the highest, and the ED radio of Group P was the lowest of all the groups (Group A, $12.2{\pm}21.5%$; Group M, $5.7{\pm}6.5%$; Group P, $2.5{\pm}6.7%$; P < 0.001). Conclusions: Radiographers can easily reduce their radiation exposure by changing their position. Two steps behind the mobile support structure can effectively decrease the exposure of radiographers by about 80%.

  • In this study, Electromagnetic Induction Power Generation (EMG) is a structure consisting of a stator and a permanent magnet rotor, and is a method that enables power generation by using the kinetic energy of the human arm. Among them, the axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) technique is a method that can act sensitively to the kinetic energy of the arm at a slow speed of the human body, and has a simple structure and can be designed and manufactured with an ultra-small size. Under the conditions of size of ø46×11mm, rotation speed of 7Hz (420rpm), output voltage 0.4VAC, output current 4.5mA, and output power 30mW were measured and analyzed the same as the target specification. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to study the power generation of the pendulum applying the AFPM (Axial Flux Permanent Magnet) technique to charge power to smart devices with kinetic energy of the human body.

  • This study aimed to identify and compare the characteristics of Elymus humidus on common wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Chinse Spring, CS). The seed length, width, height, and weight of E. humidus were smaller than those of the CS. In particular, the germination rate of E. humidus was substantially lower than that of CS. In the anatomical dissection of the leaf, E. humidus showed a considerably different xylem diameter of the main vascular bundle in the main vein; however, there was no difference in the phloem of the main vascular bundle compared with the xylem and phloem of the main vascular bundle in the main vein of CS, although E. humidus showed a leaf structure similar to that of CS. In addition, E. humidus had a thinner epidermis than that of CS. Regarding stomatal traits, E. humidus showed a graminoid stomata type similar to that of CS. On the adaxial and abaxial sides, the density, length, and width of the stomata in E. humidus were smaller than those in CS, whereas the distance between stomata in E. humidus was greater than that in CS. The chromosomes of E. humidus were classified as long and short based on their respective lengths. Long chromosomes were classified based on the ratio of the long arm to the short arm e.g., 1:1 or 2:1. Short chromosomes showed the same trend and some short chromosomes were microsatellites. To evaluate genetic diversity, 38 barley EST markers with polymorphisms between E. humidus and CS were selected from 236 barley EST markers.

  • This paper focuses on assessing the failure of one of the transmission towers that collapsed in Winnipeg, Canada, as a result of a microburst event. The study is conducted using a fluid-structure numerical model that was developed in-house. A major challenge in microburst-related problems is that the forces acting on a structure vary with the microburst parameters including the descending jet velocity, the diameter of the event and the relative location between the structure and the jet. The numerical model, which combines wind field data for microbursts together with a non-linear finite element formulation, is capable of predicting the progressive failure of a tower that initiates after one of its member reaches its capacity. The model is employed first to determine the microburst parameters that are likely to initiate failure of a number of critical members of the tower. Progressive failure analysis of the tower is then conducted by applying the loads associated with those critical configurations. The analysis predicts a collapse of the conductors cross-arm under a microburst reference velocity that is almost equal to the corresponding value for normal wind load that was used in the design of the structure. A similarity between the predicted modes of failure and the post event field observations was shown.

  • The design modification of bottom guide structures of the instrumented capsule, which is used for the irradiation test in the HANARO reactor, was required because of the trouble of the bottom guide arm's pin during irradiation. The previous structure with 3-pin arms was changed into the cone shape of one body. The specimens of the bottom end cap ring with three different sizes (${\Phi}68/70/72mm$) were designed and manufactured. The out-pile tests for the capsule with previous and new three bottom guide structures were performed in the one-channel flow test facilities. In order to evaluate the compatibility with HANARO and the structural integrity of the capsule, a loading/unloading, a pressure drop, a thermal performance, a vibration, and an endurance test were conducted. From out-pile test results, the capsule with the cone shape bottom guide structures was found to be more stable than the previous structure and the optimized size of the bottom guide structure selected was 70mm in diameter. It is expected that the new bottom guide structures will be applicable to all material and special capsules which will be designed and manufactured for the irradiation tests in the future.

  • Normal strategy of structure optimization procedure has been minimum cost or weight design. Minimum weight design satisfying an allowable stress has been used for the ship and offshore structure, but minimum cost design could be used for the case of high human cost. Natural frequency analysis and forced vibration one have been used for the strength estimation of marine structures. For the case of high precision experiment facilities in marine field, the structure has normally enough margin in allowable stress aspect and sometimes needs high natural frequency of structure to obtain very high precise experiment results. It is not easy to obtain a structure design with high natural frequency, since the natural frequency depend on the stiffness to mass ratio of the structure and increase of structural stiffness ordinary accompanies the increase of mass. It is further difficult at the grillage structure design using the profiles, because the properties of profiles are not continuous but discrete, and resource of profiles are limited at the design of grillage structure. In this paper, the grillage structure design system under the constraint of high natural frequency is introduced. The design system adopted genetic algorithm to realize optimization procedure and can be used at the design of the experimental facilities of marine field such as a towing carriage, PMM, test frame, measuring frame and rotating arm.
