This paper illustrates preliminary modeling for University Archives Management System(UAMS) construction. University must install Intermediate Archives(records and archives) facilities and management system by Public Records and Archives Act(PRA). But it is very difficult to generalize UAMS because University co-exists public and its own characteristic. For UAMS modeling, this paper first identifies University document's production creators and documental boundary. Then it is studied how University archives management is operated and what archives system by PRA means in University. Second systematic connection plan of Intermediate Archives(records and archives) facilities and manuscripts management is surveyed through National Universities and complementary things are presented. Finally through the above study UAMS model is suggested as future-oriented University archives management. UAMS model suggested from this study includes as follows. First manuscripts management as present Records and Archives system's standard function extension. Second manuscripts management system as system management area's extension using in Universities. It is desirable to extend to expert archives system. Finally integrated operating system model for using actively records, archives and manuscripts management systems operating in Universities.

Photographic archives of universities are one of the most valuable types of records that establish the university's identity and provide historical evidence. Unlike text records, however, they are weak in conveying meanings. Therefore, it is difficult to support users' search and utilization unless the information of photo records is comprehensively described. In this study, for the university photo archives, we tried to structure the classification system of photo archives and develop a metadata set that reflects the category characteristics in the classification. To this end, the photo archives classification system and metadata elements of domestic and American university archives were analyzed and based on this, the model of information structure was proposed. The information structure model presented in this study can help university archives improve the data quality of their photo archives and support users with the abundant discovery of photo archives.

This study examines the collection policy of University Archives. The establishment of collection policy enables university archives to concentrate in which memories of university to remain and provide as archives. Accordingly, this study, making a model of university archives in early sage of establishment, intends to investigate the collection policy for collecting archives in university. The first chapter defines the fields and categories of collection of archives. In order to define the collection categories, it outlines the history of the university and set up the fields and categories for documentation. In the second chapter, this study examines about the factors which forms the document of the collection policy, such as a missions statement, a guide to collection, and a guide to acceptance by items. Then, this study, applying items mentioned above, suggests a plan for a collection policy. The model presented in this study may not represent the model of collection policy in the university archives. However, it is meaningful as a study of collection policy and has purpose and significance in making a stepping stone for more developmental collection policy.

This paper seeks to activate the discussion on the 'University and College Archives', which are to be established under the provision of 'the Law on the management of the records of public institutions' which are going to be enforced from 2000. For this purpose, we need to know about the university archives: what is university archives, how that was developed, and what's the meaning of university archives in academic society. Because we can find out exactly the flaw of the discussion on university archives, having been discussed nowadays, get to know the problems, and can seek the desirable directions to establish university archives through the understanding of the basic characteristics of university archives. The understanding of the general public on the preservation of public records has rapidly improved so that there should be no objection to the premise that we need to preserve, manage, and utilize public records in order to let democracy take root in our society. In the same vein, to preserve the historical records of the university which had played a leading role in the democratization of our society will serve as a foundation to fix the identity of the university by recognizing the socio-political functions of the university and culture of it in this rapidly changing society. And the records to be preserved in the archives, especially university archives, which include various aspects of the university and students, will promote the democratization of the university itself which has been questioned in several universities recently.

Various theoretical studies have been conducted to activate university archives, but the services provided currently in the field haven't been much studied. This study aims to investigate the usage and users of the domestic university archives, examine the types of the archival information services provided, understand the characteristics and limitations of the services, and suggest the development direction. This study set 3 objectives for the research. First, Identify the users of the university archives, the reason of the use, and the kinds of archival materials used. Second, the kinds of services and programs the university archives provide to the users. Third, the difficulties the university archives face to execute information services, the plans they consider in the future, and the best possible direction to prove the services. The authors of the study determined to apply interviews with the staffs at university archives to identify the current status of the services. For this, the range of the services offered in the field of university archives was defined first, and then, key research questions were composed. To collect valid data, authors carried out face to face interviews and email/phone interviews with the staff of 12 university archives, as well as the investigation of their Web sites. The collected data were categorized by the topic of the interview questions for analysis. By analyzing the data, some useful information was yielded including the demographic information of the research participants, the characteristics of the archives' users and requests, the types and activities of the services the university archives offered, and the limitations of archival information services, the archives' future plans, and the best possible development direction. Based on the findings, this study proposed the implications and suggestions for archival information services in university archives, in 3 domains as follows. First, university archives should build close relationship with internal university administrative units, student groups, and faculty members for effective collection and better use of archives. Second, university archives need to acquire both administrative records by transfer and manuscripts and archives by active collection. Especially, archives need to try to acquire unique archives of the universities own. Third, the archives should develop and provide various services that can elevate the awareness of university archives and induce more potential users to the archives. Finally, to solve the problems the archives face, such as the lack of the understanding of the value of the archives and the shortage of the archival materials, it was suggested that the archivists need to actively collect archival materials, and provide the valuable information by active seeking in the archives where ever it is needed.

This study examines the current status of national & public university archives management, focusing on Busan and Gyeongnam area. Because national public universities create public records, they must compulsorily execute the law, Public Records and Archives Act. However revised Public Records and Archives Act isn't reflected the peculiarity of university archives and the national and public universities are to be transferred to government archive. The records and archives of universities had better be preserved in universities themselves in order to use university member and other users. This paper points out the problem of university archives management and finalizes with some suggestions for national public university archives related to the systematic and efficient archives management.

This study investigated the applicability of the Management System for Records Standard (ISO 30301) in university archives. To examine the current state of the university archives, we surveyed 57 university archives based on the requirements of ISO 30301. We analyzed the current state of the university archives through survey results and professional interviews. Subsequently, we suggested eight things that need improvement for the adoption of ISO 30301 in university archives.

Various types of records and archives would be producted in universities as a result of specialized tasks on education and research by experts. But most of the studies were focused on general areas in a university. This study was performed with the motivation, wherein management and preservation of university archives producted through various activities in a university should be uniform and are in need of increased awareness of university archives. Based on the background, this study aims to examine the importance and value of university archives related to endowment for university development. To achieve the goals, this study investigated the features and types of university archives related to endowment. Because most of universities have a department that raises endowment, this study performed an analysis and examination of the current status of management on endowment archives. Through this research, this study proposed a model for management of university archives related to endowment.

This study aims to investigate the current level of university archives management in Korea. After researching the actual condition of the management of the records in all universities in Korea, focusing on the institution and the operation, the inactiveness of the management was pointed out ; only 20% universities of all keep managing and utilizing the archives, and none has a plan for a special application of its archives.
