  • An event as philosophical thought is expanded throughout our society and affected largely an architectural field as well as aesthetics. Paying attention to this fact, this study is to relate the event to an architectural space and to find an interrelationship between them. Since Martin Heidegger who started to be regarded the event as a subject of thought, many philosophers revealed different thoughts about it. Architecture works of Louis I. Kahn, Peter Zumthor, Steven Holl, Bernard Tschumi, Rem Koolhaas who had the influences from the thoughts of Martin Heidegger, M. Merleau-Ponty, Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze, are analyzed and compared their features. The reason why this relationship has become the subject of research is because the event can be confirmed to be connected with an architectural thoughts by correlating with aesthetic texts. Throughout this study, each architect, who is affected from philosophers, has different characters as they have different thoughts about events. This study is expected to be used as an literature data of intertextuality of philosophy and architecture.

  • The aim of this study is to understand the original methods of architectural composition in F. L. Wright's works, For this purpose, the principal thoughts based on his organic architecture was examined over all others, and the results of this study are as follows. 1. F. L. Wright knew Taoist Philosophy, especially Lao-tzu's thought about space based on traditional oriental arts included traditional japanese arts by his superior intuition. this is similar to Froebel Thought in the principal theory, that is, his own unique field of abstract architectural education with three-dimensional geometry learned through Froebel Gifts. 2. Space is reality ; such Lao-tzu's thought, reversed the sense of values, influenced F. L. Wright's way to accomplish his own continuous space. that is to say, he attempted taking precedence of spatial organization by the unit of three-dimensional module made the substance, Froebel Blocks (3, 4, 5, 6 Gifts) into non-substance, and trying to do the methods of continuous liberal composition in architecture. which is his original accomplishment, namely his mentioned 'democratic' because of judging the space and the mold of architecture as individualities. 3. F. L. Wright treated the space as a positive entity, so that he created his own architecture organically combined with spaces and forms. : This was the result that he comprehended both formative, physical worth in West and spatial, non-physical worth in East as equivalence. It is understood that F. L. Wright's works combined with East and West are the significance of his architecture and the progress of true internationalities and modernization in modern architecture. 4. From the analyses of his works, we knew the fact that F. L. Wright's architecture, especially in the spatial organization were performed by the reasonable methods with geometric system of Froebel Gifts. In the observation of our fundamental way of thinking on his architecture, this study shows the necessity to let us get out of preconceptions and conclusions that the organic architecture is mysterious and difficult, but to systematize and put his organic methods to practical use.

  • The tendency of formalization in Contemporary Architecture deeply relies on the thought of Western Philosophy, which emphasizes the art of image perceived visually but ignores the body and perception of a human beig who uses the architecture and lives in it. On the contrary, Merleau-Ponty asserted long time ago that the world and the body are inseparably related to each other. The phenomenology is important in Architecture, since the center of thought should be taken back to the human body if a artistic meaning can be obtained by Architecture. From this point of view, the meaning of Contemporary Architecture can be renewed by the phenomenological idea of Merleau-Ponty as a means of expanding thought that overcomes the limit of formalization in Contemporary Architecture. This research aims to ream from Steven Holl's work, and show the Architectural elements that are used for preceptual experience of phenomenon and the function of those element sin Architectural space of his works. The result of study on about the phenomenal light and water in Architectural space of Steven Holl is as follows; First, in perceptional experience of phenomenon, time is an important element, which is successive and make a field that cause perceptional experience. Second, light, as a phenomenological element, acted as a means of expressing the comparison and change of light and shadow in Architectural space and showing the change of color by the diversity of time in inner space. Third, water, as a phenomenal lens, not only acted functional but also functioned as an element of sensual experience in Architectural space. It acted as an image containing time, space, just like a mirror that reflect the environment.

  • ${\ddot{O}}d{\ddot{o}}n$ Lechner has been known as an architect who incorporates Hungarian folk motifs in creating a highly original Hungarian national style. Nevertheless, his work has been surprisingly neither exposed nor familiar to Korean audiences. This article attempts to reveal the unique characteristics of Lechner's architectural thought and ideas along with his buildings in Budapest. First of all, this article presents the evolution of Lechner's architectural thought by dividing his career into four marking periods. They are in chronological order to serve as a record of his architectural career. The authors then discuss his concern on the Hungarian ethnography in architecture while turing away from orthodox classicism. Subsequently, this article analyzes Lechner's three major buildings located at Budapest. By doing so, it attempts to expose his underlying design ideas and to shed light on the most elegant works of the architect. Finally, it marks out Lechner's influences on young Hungarian architects.

  • Quantum theory of Niels Bohr received the Nobel Prize in Physics was rooted to the Oriental thought 'Yin-Yang and the Five Elements 陰陽五行', and architect Frank Lloyd Wright is also known as Lao Tzu's thoughts on the best architectural theory. Thus, the western architecture and oriental thought is very similar to the concept development. On the basis of this fact, the architectural philosophy of Mies van der Rohe is closely contact with Lao Tzu's Taoism, that is 'The greatest has no boundary 大象無形, Tao Te Ching chap.41' or 'The way to be is not to be 有道者 不處, Tao Te Ching chap.24'. Hence the aim of this thesis is to investigate the interrelation between the German architect Mies van der Rohe's 'almost nothing' and the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu's 'Taoism'.

  • This study aimes to understand the principles in Theo Van Doesburg's architectural concept. Generally, Theo Van Doesburg has been thought that he betrayed De Stijl by acting contrary to the Neo-Plasticism which was constituted in early De Stijl by Mondrian and himself and by suggesting opposite one, Elementarism. Therefore this study tried to understand the principles that make his architectural concept, confirming the background of Elementarism. After studing relation, which Theo Van Doesburg has used, between space and color, it is concluded that he has unchanged principles of architectural concept from early De Stijl to last, opposite to general appreciation. So, Theo Van Doesburg acted to maintain equilibrium that exists for balancing the two elemental forces which contrast each other in relation between space and color. The equilibrium which he looked for aims to constitute harmonized dynamic space by dynamic rythem of equilibrium instead of Neo-Plastic effect. And using color, which used to be producing dynamic effect, he intended to maintain static effect for making dynamic rythem of equllibrium by the principles he made.

  • In contemporary modern architecture, it can be said that Western modern architecture, which has advanced in technology and ideology, is leading the world architecture today. However, because it is pointed out that modern architecture, mainly represented by Western architecture nowadays, is based on the crystal of Western civilization's consumption and capitalist culture, and because it seems not absolute for the eternal sustainable development of the Earth and happiness of Humankind, it is assumed that the new conceptions of Architecture should include the cultural, ecological and environmental characteristics of the region. So because it is thought that the latent characteristics of East Asian architecture including China, Japan and Korea has the advantage of reducing the deficiency of Western modern architecture and contributing to human civilization, this study was written to find a new direction of architecture by finding the differences of architectural characteristics(intrinsic and extrinsic) in the interior of the architectural result through comparison between the Eastern and Western architecture.

  • Skin Architecture', which has been an important topic of architectural discourse in the recent past, is playing an even greater role in the design expression of architectural materials nowadays. The purpose of this study is to define the epidermal conception about material matter and to discover the various modes of visual effect in the use of architectural materials.Epidermal thought is expressed in different forms, ranging from a simple covering made up of materials of all kinds , removable or technological wrappings. Analyzing the recent experiments from the works of Bernard chumi, Herzog & de Meuron, Peter Zumthor, Gigon & Guyer , it can be argued that the skin is a good emotional approach in the design expression of architectural material matter as epidermal concept since the 1980's.

  • Berlage's importance in the history of the Modern Movements of Architecture lies in his effort to combine several sets of contradictory dual aspects of architectural values. Tradition and modernity are one of the contradictory dual aspects. For Berlage, tradtion and modernity were not tow opposing, but reconciliatory concepts. In this sense, Berlage thought that modernity did not mean a total rejection, but a reinterpretion of tradition. Berlage's concern with his contemporaty architectural situstion was how to revive the stagnant repetion of past styles in Historicism and, at same time, how to prevent an extreme rejection of tradition by the Avant-Gardists. Berlage's architectural belief that neither stagnant imitation of past styles nor extreme revolution can be an ideal model for his era, lies in a traditional art theory of 'style evolution' and the interpertation of Nature's lessons for it. This study is to understand Berlage's concept of 'style evolution' and the meaning of tradition and modernity in the early Modern Movements of Architecture.
