  • Purpose: The analysis of spatial composition is required for the creation of healing environment in healthcare facilities. This study has been accomplished to provide basic data for the planning and design of hospital architecture. Methods: Literature review of healing environment and investigation on characteristics of spatial composition in healthcare facilities have been conducted. The architectural plans of four Sou Fujimoto's healthcare projects have been analyzed with space syntax. Results: The result of this research can be summarized as followed. First of all, the healing environments are consisted with architectural composition in addition to physical and psychological factors for healing environment. The second one is that the characteristics of spatial composition in Sou Fujimoto's healthcare projects are different private/public/corridor relationships in program configuration, loop or one direction circulation, combined or independent corridor with program, and radical or linear connection in spatial connection methods. The third one is that the characteristics of spatial composition in selected cases through space syntax are high variation on integration, low variation on connectivity, and high distribution in main circulation on ERAM(3). Implications: In addition to the specific spatial composition in healthcare facilities of the architect's project, it is necessary to analyze the relationship with other factors and facilities to develop the planning of hospital architecture.

  • This study is intended to understand the architectural characteristics and trends of general hospitals in Europe. The Observations, interviewes with the staff, and analyses of related materials were executed through the study-visits of sample hospitals. Some results of the study could be summarized as follows : (1) The architectural characteristics of sample hospitals could be described as the realization of horizontal design concept, application of urban design method, specialization of service departments, intergration of facility design, and planning for the emergency & disaster. (2) The architectural trends of sample hospitals could be suggested as the decentralization of functions, promotion of building standard, enhancement of interior space, consideration of environment, and autonomous management & operation of facilities. (3) The humanistic and environmental approaches from european hospitals would be preferably applicable rather than the popular concept of automation, ultra-modernization and mega-structure in Korea. First of all, the bed-center and proper facilities for disaster should be considered.

  • The proliferation of the House Dust Mite(HDM) is affected by temperature, humidity, ventilation, etc. Measuring temperature and humidity was performed at the very location where dust samplings take place and where they live in reality together with temperature and humidity of the ambient of the room. There has been discussion over the key environment factor of HDM survival; absolute humidity or relative humidity. It seems that relative humidity is the more important determinant for the mite's survival through the analysis of previous studies. Temperature, humidity, ventilation rate and Der P1 were measured in 4 flats in London. Mite allergen was detected in every house. Levels of Der P1 varied between <100ng/g and 22,778ng/g. Flats with high relative humidity(>50%) and poor ventilation(<0.5ach) showed higher levels of mite allergen than flats with lower humidity and adequate air change rate. Questionnaire survey was conducted and the result helped to confirm the findings from monitoring of environmental factors and the dust sampling.

  • This paper is architectural paper which has been studied about residential culture of Southwestern Island from 18C to now. It's main object is suggest a new residential type. Contents of research is 1, to survey a history and a cultural environment of island. 2. to survey and rearrange residence(traditional, modem) which has been built from the past to the present, and establish a history of residence and a theory. 3. to search for architectural space, shape(form), and architectural community, etc. which can be continued. 4. to suggests ideal future residence type of islands. Effectiveness of Research is 1. This study suggests a new theory and a new method to the field of residential science, especially to the residence of island area. 2. In this study, traditional theory of residence be reflected in the modern architectural design.

  • This Study is about the check-List composition for 'Low carbon green growth' of Long-life housing. That utilization for required the check-list composition at Sustainable building strategies and Design methods. That for long life housing, sustainable building strategies part of building construction and interior, the proper foundation for legislative system, maintenance methods with in building life cycle, sustainable and green architecture capability realization prepare for connection plan with 'Low carbon-green growth'. Extracting from elements of Architectural planing answer to basic concept of Low carbon-green growth and aimed at Low carbon scheme for energy saving, green growth scheme for environmental conservation as to each application purpose reconstitute by classify Check-list category about elements of Architectural planing. Through this architectural research deduce elements of architectural planing that can be research utilization with in Check-list composition.

  • Territory is determined by physical elements that provide the occupants an obvious boundary in a space. The creation of boundary is a interpersonal process by which a person or group regulates interactions with others. The perception of territory needs boundary regulations that mean the composition of horizontal and vertical elements in architectural space. The perception of territory can be defined as perceptual reaction considering not only visual perception on the physical elements in the architectural space and also various kinds of social activity in architectural environment. To achiever territory in architectural space, visible and invisible boundary regulation should be need. It means that territorial boundary regulation needs visual and audial boundary regulation as well as spatial boundary regulation.

  • If we take account of the 'Architectural Tradition' which aims a construction of better environment, we can see that this tradition has ended historically toward Utopia. It is a continual trend from ancient Greece to contemporary epoch in each transitional periods and especially in the Renaissance Era. Utopia is an ideal commonwealth in which inhabitants exist under perfect conditions, ideally perfect places or state of things. The plans of utopia are complete projects of image, its goal is an social, political and economical improvement according to the eras. Its plans are characterized by rigid geometrical pattern as circle and square, which contain generally center axis symmetry enclosure. Recent urban and architectural circumstances no longer reflect utopian visions. Since the latter of the 20th century, it appears dystopia on the contrary. Therefore, the utopian ideal city and architecture describes characteristics of the era unlike the continuity of its concept.

  • The Affordance, discussed in the theory of ecological perception of environmental psychology, is the concept of perception that deals with inter-relationship between environment and human. It is a theory seeking for gradual evolution, with the change of user experience behavior and the space, by getting feed-backs from the analysis of perception of characteristics of 3-dimensional space and the user as moving entity. Although there has been many attempts to define the Affordance and apply its concept to the architecture, now there's a need to identify the Affordance in the real architectural space, represent Affordance of space and the user inter-relationship in the architecture and apply its design specifically, Thus, the purpose of this study is to present the methodology of applying Affordance in architectural space design by identifying the Affordance of space concept of human experience behavior in the architectural space and analyze its recognition process.

  • This paper attempts to examine the historical changes, the characteristics and the role of free-standing wall from the viewpoint of architectural composition. After modern times the wall gets free of structure and the view of formative art changes, which become a basis of the conscious use of free-standing wall. It plays a role of getting territoriality and placeness, by defining the space at the external territory and it is used as apparatus which controls circulation and orientation externally At the same time it is used as an instrument to blur the border to make mutual intersection and plays a role of introducing and controling the environment. The free-standing wall controls the architectural form to emphasize plasticity and is used to define a geometrical frame and maintain the urban context. In view of the results so far achieved, the free-standing wall is used as general vocabulary of modulating the border of space and the architectural form since modern architecture.

  • BIM technology accomplished quantitative development being utilized in various disciplines. However, it is necessary to develop environment and requirement for qualitative improvement of BIM-based project in current transitional period of adopting BIM. The purpose of this study is to develop and apply of quality control requirement for improving the quality of BIM-based architectural design through case study. In particular, by focusing on BIM quality control and its relevant subjects, the minimum standards for BIM quality management are suggested. Also, BIM template is suggested to support the effective application of BIM-based architectural design.
