The distribution of radionuclides in soil and plants were calculated, assuming an accidental release of radionuclides from Yeonggwang Nuclear Power Plant. The results which show the concentration change with time and regions were displayed by GIS. GIS Included the commercial program, ArcView(ESRI), and a basic digital map of 1:5000 scale for 30km by 30km area around Yeonggwang Nuclear Power Plant. The target material was $^{137}Cs$ in soil around Yeonggwang area. Given denosited $^{137}Cs$ concentrations, ECOREA-II code computed the $^{137}Cs$ concentration of the soil and the plant in the area divided by 16 azimuth, 480 unit cells in total in which the concentrations also varied with time. The results were introduced into the attributed data of previously designed polygon cells in ArcView. In order to display the concentration change with time by monotonic color, the RGB value for ArcView color lamp was controlled. This display is useful for the public to understand the concentration change of radionuclide around Yeonggwang area definitely.

This study presents an analytical method of solving the behaviors of arc plasma in a nozzle constricting transferred-type torch and purposes to obtain the basic data for the design of a plasma torch, which can be obtained from the temperature, pressure, velocities and voltage distributions. We have to solve some conservation equations simultaneously and need to know the exact thermal gas properties in order to obtain the correct behaviors of arc plasma. It is also necessary to give the relevant physical or geometric boundary conditions. For the simplicity of analysis, we assumed that (a) the plasma flow is laminar, (b)the local thermodynamic equilibrium, i.e. LTE, prevails over the entire arc column region. The electrode sheath effects were neglected and the nozzle area was excluded from the analysis by assuming that the current flow into the nozzle is zero. We solved the momentum transfer equation including the self-magnetic pinch effect, and obtained the temperature distribution from the energy conservation equation. From this temperature, we could get arc voltage distribution. (author). refs., figs., tabs.
The arc characteristics have influences on the current interruption phenomena in the regimes of low current as well as high current. It is very important to understand the arc characteristics for the initial design of a circuit breaker. This article describes the theoretical analysis of the arc characteristics by means of arc energy integral method when convection dominated low current arcs are produced in the dual-nozzle air and $SF_6$ gas flows of a model interrupter. The arc radius, average electric field strength and arc voltage have been investigated at the current range of 60 to 230 A and at the upstream pressure of 0.6 MPa in both air and SF6 gas. The results have been compared to show the difference of both gases and the trends similar to those of other investigations.

Magnetic arc extinguishing technology is effective as an extinguishing device for low-voltage direct current (DC) circuit breakers with a resistive load of ≤4 kW. The separation distance between the magnet and the electrical contact must be shortened to increase the magnetic arc extinguishing force. However, if the magnet is installed too close to the electrical contact points, the magnet is exposed to high temperatures due to the arc current generated when the load current is cut off and the magnetism is lost. To solve this problem, the effective magnetic flux density at the electrical contact can be maintained high by placing the arc extinguishing magnet in a tandem structure with the electrical contact point between them, and the proper separation distance between the contact points and the magnet can be maintained. In addition, an electric arc extinguishing technology that emits arc energy using a series circuit of diode and resistor is used to suppress the continuous arc voltage generated by the inductive load. For the proposed circuit breaker, the breaking characteristics are analyzed through the breaking test for the DC load of the 760 V level, the load power of 4 kW, and the time constant of 5 ms, and an appropriate arc extinguishing design guideline is proposed.
A study was conducted for the effects of input energy on fume formation ratios based on electrode(FFR$_{electrode}(g/kg_{electrode})),\;deposited\;metal(FFR_{weld}(g/kg_{weld}))\;and\;slag(FFR_{slag}(g/kg_{slag}))\;at\;CO_2$ flux cored arc welding on stainless steel. Experiments were run in well designed welding fume box. Six types of flux cored wires were used and three levels of current and voltages were given. The measured values of $FFR_{electrode},\;FFR_{weld},\;FFR_{slag}\;are\;7.90{\pm}1.47\;g/kg_{electrode},\;9.18{\pm}1.65\;g/kg_{\electrode},\;71.8{\pm}24.2\;g/kg_{slag}$ respectively. Fume formation ratios are not increased dramatically by input energy because of simultaneous increasing of melted electrodes, deposited metal and slag. The results indicate that the test of fume formation ratios in the research on production of low fume welding wire can be run at the fixed condition of input energy rather than various condition.

Arctii Fructus (AF), which contains arctigenin (ARC) as a major constituent, is traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory medicine to treat inflammatory sore throat. Although several studies have proven its anti-inflammatory effects, there have been no reports on its use in inflammation related disorders such as obesity, cancer metastasis, and allergic responses. This study investigated the anti-obesity effect and anti-metastasis effect of AF and ARC. AF and ARC inhibited weight gain by reducing the mass of white adipose tissue in high fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice. Serum cholesterol levels were also improved by AF and ARC. In in vitro experiments, AF and ARC decreased differentiation of white adipocytes. Furthermore, AF induced differentiation of brown adipocytes, which are able to consume surplus energy through non-shivering thermogenesis. Also, AF and ARC inhibited colon cancer and lung metastasis of colon cancer. They suppressed not only colorectal cancer cell progression by inhibiting cell growth, but also prohibited lung metastasis by regulating epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), migration, and the invasion. These effects were confirmed in an experimental metastasis mouse model. In addition, AF and ARC inhibited mast cell mediated allergic responses. Collectively, our study suggests that AF and ARC might show inhibitory effects on inflammation related diseases, including obesity, cancer, cancer metastasis, and allergic responses.
An essential step for SERGI is to show the TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP) efficacy for all transformers and all types of rupture of insulation. Its research program philosophy is thus to maintain a strong connection between experiments and the theoretical developments. Up to now, two TP test campaigns have been performed, both under the worst conditions by creating low impedance faults leading to electrical arcs inside the transformer tank dielectric oil. In 2002, Electricite de France performed 28 TP tests. Then, in 2004, a second campaign of 34 TP tests was carried out by CEPEL, the Brazilian independent High Voltage Laboratory. For the 62 tests, each transformer was equipped with the TP, which reacts directly to the moving dynamic pressure peak, shock wave, caused by the low impedance fault. When an electrical arc occurs, only one pressure peak is generated. The initial energy transfer is almost instantaneous, and so is the phase change. Because of the oil inertia, the gas is very quickly pressurised. As it is more difficult to vaporise a liquid than to crack oil-vapour into smaller molecules, the arc location would mainly remain in the gaseous phase after and less gas will be produced. As a result, when comparing tests for which pressure peaks are respectively equal to 8 bar (116 psi) and 8.8 bar (127 psi), the corresponding arc energies vary by an order 10 of magnitude (0.1 MJ and 1 MJ respectively). The correlation of the results obtained between arc energy and dynamic pressure demonstrates that the arc energy is not the key parameter during transformer tank explosion, which is in opposition with the common electrical engineers belief.

In order to study on the effect of fabrication methods on the changes of hydrogenation properties of FeTi alloy, FeTi samples were prepared using three different methods, i.e., arc melting, mechanical alloying and combination of the two methods. The FeTi prepared by mechanical alloying represented amorphous structure. The hydrogen storage capacity of arc melted FeTi alloy is larger than any other samples. However, FeTi electrode fabricated by mechanical alloying after arc melting showed largest discharge capacity among them.
In this study, we calculated arc discharges and flow characteristics driven by arcs in a thermal puffer chamber, which is one of most outstanding high-voltage interrupters, for understanding the complex physics and the probability of thermal breakdown. The four main parts of arc model for this virtual-reality are radiation, PTFE ablation, Cu evaporation, and turbulence. Among these important parts the turbulence model can be critical to the reliability of computation results during the whole arcing history because the plasma flow is affected by high heat energy and mass momentum. Two turbulence models, the Prandtl's mixing length model and the standard $k-\varepsilon$ model, are applied for these calculations and are compared with pressure-rise inside chamber and arc voltage between the contacts as well as flow characteristics near current zero.
