It is necessary to install the arc generation facility to obtain the important technology for the design of breakers and switches, and the improvement of their performance and reliability. With this facility it is possible to study the characteristics of Arc in air/gas/vacuum insulation environment. The arc generation facility briefly consists of capacitor bank which can charge enormous energy, an air-core reactor, and several measurement equipments. This facility can simulates the arc phenomena in breakers and switches by means of generating high currents. In order to the protect electrode damage during the arcing time in arc extinguishing chamber, we installed auxiliary current source in addition to main capacitor bank, This auxiliary current source produces relatively small arc between electrodes before high current generation by main capacitor bank. Therefore it is possible to observe and measure the arcing phenomenon without damage of electrodes.

In order to study the arc phenomena in SF6 gas and vacuum and to test the quenching performance of the extinguishing chambers which are developing. we made experimental $SF_6$gas/vacuum chambers and measured several parameter's of chambers. And besides we visualized arc ignition and arc movement by means of high speed camera.
A prototype long pulse ion source was developed, and the beam extraction experiments of the ion source were carried out at the Neutral Beam Test Stand (NBTS) of the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR). The ion source consists of a magnetic bucket plasma generator, with multi-pole cusp fields, and a set of tetrode accelerators with circular apertures. Design requirements for the ion source were a 120kV/65A deuterium beam and a 300 s pulse length. Arc discharges of the plasma generator were controlled by using the emission-limited mode, in turn controlled by the applied heating voltage of the cathode filaments. Stable and efficient arc plasmas with a maximum arc power of 100 kW were produced using the constant power mode operation of an arc power supply. A maximum ion density of $8.3{\times}10^{11}\;cm^{-3}$ was obtained by using electrostatic probes, and an optimum arc efficiency of 0.46 A/kW was estimated. The accelerating and decelerating voltages were applied repeatedly, using the re-triggering mode operation of the high voltage switches during a beam pulse, when beam disruptions occurred. The decelerating voltage was always applied prior to the accelerating voltage, to suppress effectively the back-streaming electrons produced at the time of an initial beam formation, by the pre-programmed fast-switch control system. A maximum beam power of 0.9 MW (i.e. $70\;kV{\times}12.5\;A$) with hydrogen was measured for a pulse duration of 0.8 s. Optimum beam perveance, deduced from the ratio of the gradient grid current to the total beam current, was $0.7\;{\mu}perv$. Stable beams for a long pulse duration of $5{\sim}10\;s$ were tested at low accelerating voltages.
Evaluation of fracture toughness of welded structures has a significant influence on the structural design. However the residual stresses is redistributed while the welded structures is cut for preparing specimens. This study investigated an effect of the welding residual stress redistribution on the impact absorption energy of Charpy specimen. SA516Gr70 steel plate by at the flux cored arc welding (FCAW) and gas tungsten arc welding(GTAW) was cutting. Specimens for Charpy impact testing were taken from the welded plate. Two material removal mechanisms (wire cutting and water jet) were used to make the specimens. Welding residual stress and redistribution residual stress were measured using the XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) method. The amount of redistribution of residual stress depends on the different material removal mechanism. Redistribution of residual stress of reduced the impact absorption energy by 15%.

We presented plasma processing using a DC Arc Plasmatron for diamond deposition on Al2O3 ceramic substrates. Plasma surface treatments were conducted to improve deposition condition before processing for diamond deposition. The Al2O3 ceramic substrates deposited, $5{\times}15mm^2$, were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). Properties of diamond (111), (220) and (311) peaks were shown in XRD. We identified nanocrystalline diamond films on substrates. The results showed that deposition rate was approximately $2.2{\mu}m/h$ after plasma surface treatments. Comparing the above result with a common processing, deposition rate was improved. Also, the surface condition was improved more than a common processing for diamond deposition on Al2O3 ceramic substrates.

The performance of a spark jet driven by pulsed-arc plasma was investigated experimentally for various energy input. A high-speed jet (about 330 m/s) was obtained by rapid gas heating produced by 37 mJ of deposited energy per pulse. The peak velocity and penetration distance of the jet were proportional to the deposited power and the deposited energy per pulse, respectively. A smaller orifice diameter produces a higher velocity jet at lower energy levels. For the same deposited energy, higher-current pulses produce a higher jet velocity than higher-pulse-width pulses. A total deposited energy of about 10 mJ per pulse with a pulse duration of about $10{\mu}s$ was found to be the optimum for energy- efficient operation.

Recently, plasma arc curing system for curing resin composites has been introduced. This is characterized by a high output of light energy, which has the advantage of reducing the chair time and thereby making the treatment more comportable for the patients as well as for the dentist. The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strengths of light-cured orthodontic adhesive polymerized with conventional halogen light and plasma arc light. The 2 curing devices used were the XL3000 (3M, USA) conventional curing light and the Flipo (LOKKI, France) plasma arc light. The results from the present study can be summarized as fellows; 1. The mean shear bond strength for three groups were quite similar for 50 second conventional light group, 2 second plasma arc curing light group, 5 second plasma arc curing light group. 2. There was no statistically significant difference for three groups(p>0.05).

In this paper, we describe how to represent lower case hand-written English alphabets by a sequence of two to seven fuzzy sets. Each fuzzy set represents an arc segment of the character and each arc segment is assumed to be a part of an ellipse. The part of an ellipse is defined by five quantities: its short and long radii, its orientation angle, whether it is a part of the lower half or the upper half and whether it is the full half or a part of a half. Hence, we use the Cartesian product of five fuzzy sets to represent each arc segment. We show that this representation is a translation, rotation, and scaling invariant and that it can be used to generate the hand-written English alphabets. The representation we describe is different from the one proposed earlier by the author and when compared with the previous representation, the one described in this paper simulates more closely the behavior of how one writes English characters.
Due to the high dependence on electric energy, electric fires make up a significant portion of fires in Korea. Electric arcs by short circuits or poor contact cause three of four electrical fires. An electric arc is a discharge phenomenon of electrical current between the insulators, which instantaneously produces high temperature. In order to reduce the fire due to electric arc, this study aims to predict the electric arc risk. We collected arc data from the arc detectors and converted into graphs based on temporal arc data. We used machine learning for training converted graph with different number of temporal arc data. To measure the performance of the learning model, we use the test data. In the results, when the number of temporal arc data was 20, the prediction rate was high as 86%.
