  • While the reliability of bulk insulation has become important particularly in multilayer boards and embedded boards, electronics are to be used under various environments such as at high temperature and in high humidity. We observed internal space charge behavior for two types of epoxy composites under dc electric fields to investigate the influence of water at high temperature. In the case of glass/epoxy specimen, homocharge is observed at water-treated specimen, and spatial oscillations become clearer in the water-treated specimens. Electric field in the vicinity of the electrodes shows the injection of homocharge. In aramid/epoxy specimens, heterocharge is observed at water-treated specimens, i.e. negative charge accumulates near the anode, while positive charge accumulates near the cathode. Electric field is enhanced just before each electrode. In order to further examine the mechanism of space charge formation, we have developed a new system that allows in situ space charge observation during ion migration tests at high temperature and high humidity. 수지 혼합비가 FRMLs의 피로균열전파거동과 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Study on the Effect of Resin Mixture Ratios on the Fatigue Crack Propagation Behavior and Mechanical Property in a FRMLs)

  • FRMLs(Fiber Reinforced Metal Laminates) is a new type of hybrid materials. FRMLs consists of high strength metal and fiber which are laminated using a structural adhesive bond(epoxy resin). The effect of resin mixture ratios on the fatigue crack propagation behavior and mechanical property of Aramid fiber reinforced aluminum composites was investigated. The epoxy, diglycidylether of bisphenol A(DGEBA) was cured with methylene dianiline(MDA) with or without accelerator(K-54). Eight kinds of resin mixture ratio were tested for the experiment ; five kinds of FRMLs(1))epoxy & curing agent) and three kinds of FRMLs(2)(epoxy & curing agent & accelerator). FRMLs(2) have a more effective characteristics on the fatigue crack propagation behavior and mechanical property than FRMLs(1)

  • The reinforced concrete slabs with epoxy-bonded AFRT sheets were experimentally investigated. Experimental data on strength, stiffness, steel strain, deflection and mode of failure of strengthened slabs were obtained, and comparisons between the different flexural reinforcing schemes and reinforced concrete slabs without AFRT sheets were made. The result generally indicate that the flexural strength, ductile behavior of strengthened slabs increased.

FBG 센서를 삽입한 3차원 브레이드 하이브리드 복합재료의 잔류변형률 및 내부변형률 측정 (Measurement of Residual and Internal Strain of 3-D Braided Hybrid Composite using Embedded FBG Sensor)

  • Three dimensional circular braided Glass/Aramid hybrid fabric/epoxy resin composite was fabricated. FBG sensor was embedded along the braid yam in order to monitor the internal dimensional changes of the 3-D braid composite. The amount of cure and thermal shrinkage of epoxy resin was also determined using FBG sensor system. FBG sensors with different grating length were embedded and their response were compared. The thermo-optic coefficient of FBG sensor was measured by several preliminary experiments. The internal strain that measured by FBG sensor and electric strain gauge was compared during compressive test. The released residual strain of the fabricated tubular composite was estimated using cutting method. The internal strain of the composite was estimated using FBG sensor system, and the result was compared with the value from electric strain gauge. It was found that FBG sensor system is a very useful technique to investigate inside region of complicated structure.

  • In recent years, strengthening by epoxy-bonded steel plates, carbon fiber sheets, aramid fiber sheets and so on, is spotlighted. Among them, the method using steel plates is most widely applied. Most studies have dealt with strengthening by epoxy-bonded steel plates. However the actual behavior of strengthened RC beams are not well established. Particularly, the studies on the separation load thar affects failure load of the beam are relatively insufficient. In this study, test parameters are the magnitude of pre-load, plate length, plate thickness, existence and spacing of anchor bolt, the number of plate layer and the height of side strengthening, 17reinforced concrete beams are strengthened by steel plates according to test parameters. Deflection, failure load, strains of reinforcing bar, concrete and plate are measured from tests(4 points loading). The failure mode, and separation load are analyzed from these measured data. The difference between Robert's theory and test results is discussed, and the prediction equation for separation load in the case of rip off is proposed.

수-윤활용 플라스틱 베어링 개발에 관한 연구 (Development of Water-lubricated Plastic Bearings)

  • This paper presents the fabrication process of water-lubricated plastic bearings. Plastic bearings require good mechanical properties and tribological properties as well as elasticity and shock resistance, especially when lubricated in dirty water conditions. In this study, sleeve-type plastic bearings are produced by winding a prepreg sheet, which primary contains nitrile rubber (NBR)-modified epoxy, self-lubricating fillers, and various types of lattice-structured reinforcing fibers such as carbon, Aramid, and polyethylene terephthalate. A thermosetting epoxy is chemically modified with NBR to impart elasticity and low-friction characteristics in water conditions. Experimental investigations are conducted to examine the mechanical and tribological characteristics of the developed bearing materials, and the results are compared with the characteristics of a commercial plastic bearing (Thordon SXL), well known as a water-lubricated bearing. A Thordon bearing (mainly composed of polyurethane) exhibits an extremely low load-bearing capacity and is thus only suitable for medium loading (1~10MPa). The tribological characteristics of the test materials are evaluated through Falex block-on-ring (LFW-1) friction and wear tests. The results indicate that friction exhibited by the carbon-fiber-reinforced NBR-10wt.%-modified epoxy composite material, incorporated with the addition of 20wt.% UHMWPE and 6wt.% paraffin wax, is lower than that of the Thorden bearings, whereas its wear resistance surpass that of Thorden ones. Because of these features, the load carrying capacity of the fabricated composite (>10MPa) is higher than that of the Thorden bearings. These results confirm the applicability of water-lubricated plastic bearing materials developed in this study.

AI7075/CFRP 하이브리드 복합재료의 기계적강도 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Mechanical Strength in AI7075/CFRP Hybrid Composite)

  • The combined structure of hybrid composite made through the bonding process of materials of different properties greatly defines its mechanical characteristics, as the results of the experiments on materials of different properties show much dissimilarity. When carbon/epoxy materials are applied to hybrid composite, the carbon materials helps to improve the mechanical properties of the hybrid composite, and the epoxy reduces its fracture strain and impact resistance. Carbon fiber which is now in general commercialization is classified as high modulus or high strength system, and its manufacturing methods are various. The study of the materials having combined structure is focused on the numerical analysis of the layers of bonding surface in materials with difference modulus. The hybrid composite made through the multilayered bonding of reinforced aluminium sheets with aramid fiber now faces the marketing phase, and especially its excellent fatigue resistance and mechanical properties promote active researches on the similar products of hybrid composite. This study aims to investigate the effects of CFRP volume ratio and fiber's orientation over the properties of mechanical strength and fatigue life of the hybrid composite, AI7075/CFRP. To carry out this study, static tensile and fatigue tests were given to some of the panels which, made through the co-cure processing in an autoclave, have different CFRP volume ratio and carbon fiber orientations.

산 무수물계 및 아민계 경화제를 이용한 열경화성 에폭시 섬유 제조 및 물성 (Manufacturing and Mechanical Properties of Epoxy Fibers Spinning using Anhydride and Amine Hardeners)

  • 흔히 사용되는 고분자는 다양한 형태로 제조되고 있다. 더 나아가, 나일론, 아라미드와 같은 연속적인 고분자 섬유가 최근에 제조되고 있다. 이번 실험에서 에폭시를 이용하여 고분자 섬유를 제조하였다. 비스페놀-A 타입의 에폭시가 사용되었고, 아민계 및 산 무수물계 경화제가 사용되었다. 에폭시 형상을 유지하기 위해 단계적 승온방식을 이용하여 에폭시 섬유를 경화했다. 계면접착력을 확인하기 위하여 두 섬유에 대한 상대적인 표면에너지를 수정된 정적 접촉각 방식으로 확인하였다. 인장실험을 통하여 기계적인 실험을 실시하였다. 인장실험 후에 파단형태가 경화제에 따라 달라지는 것을 확인하였다. 아민계 경화제를 사용한 에폭시 섬유의 경우 인장강도가 183 MPa로 70 MPa인 산 무수물계 경화제를 사용한 에폭시를 사용한 에폭시 섬유보다 더 좋은 것을 확인하였다.

  • Epoxy composite reinforced with 3-D braided Glass/Aramid hybrid fabric was fabricated. FBG sensor was embedded along the braid yam in order to monitor the changes of the complicated inner region of the 3-D braid structure. The good linearity between Bragg wavelength and temperature was verified by several preliminary experiments. The strain inside 3-D braided beam was estimated using FBG sensor system, and the result was compared with the calculated value. It was found that FBG sensor system is very useful technique to investigate inside region of complicated structure.

  • Testing methods for mechanical properties of the advanced composites were introduced. The mechanical properties, such as tensile properties, compressive properties, in-plane shear properties, flexural properties, and interlaminar shear properties, were evaluated along the warp and the fill directions. The CF3327 of the carbon fabric, the HG1581 of the glass fabric, and the HK285 of the aramid fabric were considered as reinforcements. Epoxy and phenolic resin were used as resin. The experimental results obtained in this study would be applicable in the design and structural analysis for the manufacture of the carbody of the tilting train.
