  • The partition of proteins in the salt-rich phase of polyethylene glycol (pEG)/salt aqueous two-phase systems is limited by the salting-out effects of salt. The logarithm of the concentration of proteins partitioned in the salt-rich phase decreases linearly with increases in the concentration of salt in the salt-rich phase (salting-out). Therefore, the partition of a given protein in the salt-rich phase of aqueous two-phase systems can be estimated from the salting-out constant. The slope of the solubility line (salting-out con-stant) for a given protein is determined by the type of salt in the two-phase systems.

  • The position of the thermodynamic equilibrium for reverse thermochromic spiropyran 6-carboxylates (SP-COOHs) was easily determined in aqueous binary mixtures, such as water-methanol, water-acetonitrile and water-dimethyl sulfoxide. The existence of more than one type of interconvertible species of the ring-opened form of SP-COOH in aqueous binary solvents enables us to evaluate the molar extinction coefficients of the ring-opened species of SP-COOH and to obtain the thermodynamic parameters.

  • Numerical analysis using finite volume method has been carried out to examine the effect of degree of superheat of LiBr aqueous solution on heat and mass transfer occurred in absorption process. According to the result of this study, it was found that refrigerant vaper was generated at the entrance region of absorber when LiBr aqueous soltion was superheated. As the degree of superheat increases, heat transfer rate increases and vapor absorption rate decreases. The increase in averaged Nusselt and Sherwood numbers could be found as film Reynolds number increases. The larger the degree of superheat, the greater the averaged Nusselt and Sherwood numbers.

  • In this work, we calculated the vapor-liquid equilibrium of aqueous polymer solutions by using PRSV equation of state combined with $G^{ex}$ mixing rules(HVO, MHVL, MHV2, LCVM). From the comparison of calculated results with experimental data obtained from literature, we found that calculation results by using MHV1 mixing rule have showed small range of error than HVO, MHV2 and LCVM mixing rules. Calculation results by using the combination of MHV1 mixing rule and UNIFAC-FV model have showed the best result for selected aqueous polymer solutions.

  • Micellar enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) was used to remove cadmium from an aqueous solution using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a surfactant. Operational parameters such as initial permeate flux, retentate pressure, initial cadmium concentration, pH solution, molecular weight cut-off (MWCO), and molar ratio of cadmium to SDS were investigated. Removal efficiency of cadmium from an aqueous solution increased with an increase of retentate pressure, pH solution and molar ratio of cadmium to SDS, and decreased with an increase of initial permeate flux. Higher removal efficiency of cadmium from the aqueous solution was achieved using lower MWCO (smaller membrane pore size). Under optimized experimental condition, cadmium removal efficiency reached 74.6 % within an hour. Using MEUF-ACF hybrid process the removal efficiency of both cadmium and SDS was found to be over 90%.

  • Mass transfer rates have been measured for the extraction of enzyme from aqueous solution into a reverse-micelle phase at $25^{\circ}C$. The 420 mL vessel was carefully designed to maintain a planar interface between the aqueous and solvent phases, so allowing precise measurement of interfacial area, has been investigated. Sodium di-2-ethylhexyl sulfosuccinate(AOT) was the surfactant used. Factors varied included: agitator speed, pH, ionic strength and surfactant concentration. Samples were taken from the solvent phase at 15min intervals, and the amount of enzyme extracted was measured by UV absorption at 280 nm. The observed Sherwood numbers for the aqueous phase $Sh_1$were correlated interms of the aqueous phase Reynolds number $Re_1$, and modified Schmidt number $Sc_1$. $Sh_1=0.664Re_1^{0.5}Sc_1^{0.33}$

  • Aqueous and dichloromethane (DCM) extracts of leaves, root bark and inflorescences of Parthenium hysterophorus L. at various concentrations were used to quantify its allelopathic potential against Indigofera tinctoria, Amaranthus viridis, A. gangeticus, Phaseolus mungo (cv. CO 1), Sorghum vulgare (cv. SPT- 462). Pennisetum typhoideus (cv. WCC-75) and Eleusine corocana (cv. CO 1). The aqueous extracts were more inhibitory than the DCM extracts to the germination and seedling growth of the plants studied. The relative rate of inhibition increased in the order of inflorescences. leaves and root bark in the aqueous extracts. whereas DCM root bark and inflorescences extracts were promoted at lower concentrations.

  • The stability of yellow and red dyes prepared from safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) in aqueous solution and in solid state was investigated. External factors such as light irradiation and temperature on the stability were examined during storage. Changes in absorbance of dye solutions and the color changes of fabrics dyed after long time storage were measured. Also, color reproducibility during storage was investigated by dyeing test on various fabrics. Red colorant in aqueous solution was very unstable to light, resulting that about 40% of absorbance were lost in 12hrs. The absorbance of yellow dye solutions was not decreased within 84hrs. In aqueous medium, yellow dye was much more stable than carthamin. Both dyes are relatively stable for long storage when they are stored in solid state compared to when in aqueous solution. Color changes are marginal in both dyes.

  • To formulate the stable preparation of Gingko extract injection and to evaluate the stability of the preparation, Gingko extract aqueous solutions having various pH values were prepared and the stability of ginskoflavonglycoside (GFG) was investlfated by high performance liquid chromatography. The stability of GFG decreased as pH increased, while the water solubility of Gingko extract decreased as pH decreased. The optimal pH of the Gingko extract aqueous solution was found to be pH 6.5. The shelf life $(T_{90%})$ of the Gingko extract aqueous solution of pH 6.5 at $20^{\circ}C$ was extrapolated to be four years.

  • The degradation characteristics of TCE by Ferrate(VI) oxidation have been studied. Ferrate(VI) were prepared by electrochemical method. The degradation efficiency of TCE in aqueous solution was investigated at various pH values, Ferrate(VI) doses and aqueous solution temperature values. GC-ECD was used to analyze TCE. TCE was degraded rapidly by ferrate(VI) in aqueous solution, Also, the experimental results showed that TCE removal efficiency increased with the increase of Ferrate(VI) doses. The effect of pH was investigated and the maximum degradation efficiency was obtained at pH 7. And intermediate products were identified by GC-MS techniques. Ethyl Chloride, Dichloroethylene, Chloroform, 1,1-dichloropropene, Trichloroacetic acid and Trichloroethane were identified as a reaction intermediate, and $Cl^-$ was identified as an end product.
