Background: Fisheries and aquaculture are statistically acknowledged to be among the most dangerous occupations. Yet, industrial safety and health precautions against occupational accidents within the sector are not sufficiently implemented in many parts of the world. The present study aims to provide a quantified overview of work accident statistics in the Turkish fisheries and aquaculture industry. Methods: This article presents an overview of reported injuries and fatalities in the Turkish fisheries and aquaculture industries from 2006 to 2020. Incident, permanent incapacity, and fatality rates were calculated, and the difference between fisheries and aquaculture was statistically examined. Results: The overall incident, permanent incapacity, and fatality rates were 449.4, 4.7, and 5.7 per 100,000 worker years, respectively, over the 15-year period. With these fatality rates, fisheries and aquaculture are two of the industries with the highest fatality rates among comparable industries in Turkey. Incident rates in fisheries and aquaculture indicated that aquaculture work is more dangerous and risky. The data set includes 25 fatalities and 22 permanent incapacity cases over 15 years and shows an increase in fatality rates and occupational accidents in the last 8 years. Conclusion: present study showed that the quality of data and reporting in the Turkish fisheries and aquaculture industries including occupational illnesses, must be improved in order to be more preventative and to develop efficient safety management in the sector. Incentives for providing thorough data on occupational incidents must be enhanced to improve occupational safety awareness in Turkish fisheries and aquaculture.
This study aimed to analyze the economic feasibility of Mackerel offshore aquaculture production performance in Jeju region, Korea. Based on the collected biological, costs and market price data, farming revenue and expenses during the farming period were evaluated, and the net present value and the internal rate of return of a 10-year cash inflow and cash outflow were estimated to determine the economic feasibility of Mackerel offshore aquaculture production system. Model results indicated that the Mackerel offshore aquaculture production performance would have high profitability under the current production and market situation. This is because of the relatively high survival rate, relatively low feed conversion ratio and good market prices. However, sensitivity analyses of main important biological and economic variables showed that the economic viability of Mackerel offshore aquaculture production system would be highly vulnerable to production and market condition changes.

In the context of the evolution of automation and intelligence, deep learning and machine learning algorithms have been widely applied in aquaculture in recent years, providing new opportunities for the digital realization of aquaculture. Especially, water quality management deserves attention thanks to its importance to food organisms. In this study, we proposed an end-to-end deep learning-based TabNet model for water quality prediction. From major indexes of water quality assessment, we applied novel deep learning techniques and machine learning algorithms in innovative fish aquaculture to predict the number of water cells counting. Furthermore, the application of deep learning in aquaculture is outlined, and the obtained results are analyzed. The experiment on in-house data showed an optimistic impact on the application of artificial intelligence in aquaculture, helping to reduce costs and time and increase efficiency in the farming process.
Ammonia in aquaculture system may lead to suppression of fish growth, sublethal histopathological changes, and even death thus ammonia is considered toxic to fish. Tricking filter and submerged filter have many advantages include: low construction cost, easy management and maintenance, and well adaptation to different water and waste loading rates. (omitted)
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of extruded pellets (EP) containing different levels of protein (51%-55%) and lipid (9%-15%) for growth of flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) comparing with raw fish-based moist pellet (MP). Two replicate groups of 40 fish per each tank (initial mean weight 106 g) were fed one of three experimental EP (EP1, EP2 and EP3) containing different protein and lipid levels, a commercial EP (EP4) and MP for 16 weeks. Survival was not significantly different among all groups. Final mean weight of fish fed MP was significantly lower than that of fish fed EP1, EP2 and EP4 (P<0.05), but not significantly different from fish fed EP3. Feed efficiency of MP-fed fish was significantly lower than fish fed all EP formulations (P<0.05), but no significant difference was observed among the EP groups. Daily feed intake of MP-fed fish was significantly higher than fish fed all EP formulations (P<0.05). Condition factor was not significantly different among all groups. Whole body moisture and crude lipid contents were significantly affected by diet (P<0.05). Growth and feed efficiency of flounder was not affected by EP protein and lipid levels. Dietary formulation used in EP1, EP2 and EP3 can be applied to the practical feeding of flounder.
The optimum temperature and salinity for long-distance transportation of rockfish Sebastes schlegeli were investigated by assessing hematological characteristics and hemocyte mortality. The possible effects of the interaction of temperature and salinity on these attributes were also investigated. No significant difference was found in hematocrit and hemoglobin among experimental conditions. Glucose levels were highest in fish exposed to salinities of 34 psu ($4^{\circ}C$), 18 psu ($4-6^{\circ}C$) and 10 psu ($4-8^{\circ}C$). Cortisol levels were elevated in the lowest temperature group ($4^{\circ}C$), but upper limits decreased with decreasing salinity. AST and ALT increased as temperature decreased at salinities lower than 26 psu. The ratio of living cells was 99.0-99.6% in all experimental groups. The percentage of necrotic cells was highest in fish exposed to salinities of 34 psu ($4^{\circ}C$), 18 psu ($6-8^{\circ}C$), and 10 psu ($4-8^{\circ}C$). The percentage of necrotic cells decreased significantly as temperature and salinity decreased, indicating that both salinity and the interaction of salinity and temperature affected cell necrosis.

This study attempts to propose the possibility of the sex reversal in Sinonovacula constricta and Gomphina veneriformis by confirming the changes in the sex ratio with the shell length in the same population level. For analysis of sex ratio, 100 individuals of S. constricta (SL 26.5-95.0 mm) and 2385 individuals of G. veneriformis (SL 15.1-60.1 mm) were used. Sex was analyzed histologically. Both species displayed the tendency of increase in the female proportion with increase in shell length. In this study, changes in the sex ratio in accordance with the growth of S. constricta and G. veneriformis are determined to be indirect evidence that signifies their sex reversal.
This study investigated concentration of metal ions in sediment and intersexuality in Polymesoda erosa and Lutraria lutraria. Samples were collected from five areas of Ha Long Bay in October, 2012. The concentration of metal ions showed that Al ($37390.0{\pm}11816.5mg/kg$) was highest and Mn ($360.4{\pm}101.4mg/kg$) was second high concentration. Cd ($0.04{\pm}0.05mg/kg$) was lowest. The intersexuality was 14.3% in P. erosa and 9.1% in L. lutraria that observed only in female.
