Analysis of trends in diving suits for development of technical diving suits - with focus on wet and semi-dry types - (테크니컬 다이빙 슈트 개발을 위한 잠수복 동향 분석 - 습식 잠수복과 반건식 잠수복을 중심으로 -)

  • As people have gained leisure time and become more interested in sports, various industries catering to these sports, including aquatic and underwater activities are growing. Many people are getting into scuba diving, where people can explore the sea at depths of more than 40-meters. Despite the increasing demand, there are limited studies on the sport. This study aims to provide basic research on materials suitable for developing technical scuba diving suits by analyzing several areas, such as design, material, sewing patterns, etc. The following trends were observed in all wetsuits: closure designs, ergonomic patterns, practical and functional details. Neoprene was the primary material of diving suits, and various functional materials were attached to the outer fabric or lining. The seam technique which minimized water contact and improved durability was sewing. Various techniques were also applied, such as flatlock stitching, GBS, LFS, etc. Subsequent studies shall investigate consumer preference etc. and other aspects, and continue to allow for the research and development of technical diving suits.

A Survey on the Research Trends of Clothing Construction in Korea - Focused on Journal Publications from 2001 through 2010 - (한국 의복구성학 분야의 연구동향 - 2001~2010년까지 학회지를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate research trends of subject matter in clothing construction field in clothing and textiles and to suggest the information for the future directions for fashion business and research. 2737 articles with clothing and textiles subject matter, 350 articles with clothing construction field in the Journal of Korean Society of Costume and Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles from 2001 through 2010 were analyzed. The major conclusions of the study are as follows: 1. Clothing construction field took 12.8% with 350 articles in the researches of the Journal Publications in 2000s. 2. Clothing construction field showed more proportions in the latter half of the decade. 3. Clothing construction field were classified into 5 topics : topic of basic pattern and pattern for apparel, topic of body types, topic of functionality of clothing and protective clothing, topic of size system of apparel, topic of sewing and manufacturing process. 4. In clothing construction field, topic of basic pattern and pattern for apparel took the most proportions. 5. Topic of body types, topic of functionality of clothing and protective clothing, topic of size system of apparel, topic of sewing and manufacturing process were followed.

A Study on the Usage and Pattern of Jacquard Fabrics (자카드직물의 용도와 문양 연구)

  • This study was performed the analysis on the final usage and the pattern type of Jacquard fabrics through the surveyed data from the domestic and foreign textile fashion magazines[Book Moda, Fashion biz, Vogue] during recent 5 years(2000-2004). The result of this study can be summarized as follows. 1 Jacquard fabric mostly applies to apparel followed by accessory, interior decoration and bedding. As classified by uses, in apparel, it applies to One-pieces most followed by jackets and coats. In interior decoration, Slipcover uses Jacquard fabric most and then cushions, curtains and carpets. In accessory, neck ties use it most and then hand bags, hats and mufflers. In bedding, Jacquard fabric evenly applies to sheets, pillows, blankets and coverlet. 2. As classified by uses above, flowered patterns apply to each use most followed by geometric patterns, abstract patterns, ethnic patterns, art patterns and animal patterns. In addition, flowered patterns apply to apparel most and then interior decoration, accessory and bedding. Geometric patterns apply to apparel, accessory, interior decoration and bedding orderly. It is researched that abstract patterns and ethnic patterns also apply to apparel partially.

Financial Ratio Analysis of the Textile and Apparel Industries

  • This paper is to focus the financial ratio analysis of the Korean textile and apparel companies due to fast changing domestic industry. Financial ratios are playing a pivotal role in management analysis to assess the present conditions to predict the future. Subjects are belonging to textile and apparel manufacturers based on Firm Classification Standard while registered as securities listed-firms or Kosdaq-listed firms under the Electronic Notification System of Korean Banking Supervisory Authority. 41 companies' data have been analyzed including 17 apparel companies and 24 textile companies. 14 representative financial ratios are analyzed. In this paper, financial ratios can be classified into four categories as follows: stability ratios, profitability ratios, growth ratios and activity ratios. The independent t-test was performed using SPSS 18 for a 10 year simple arithmetic average. The following conclusion has reached regarding aspects of management conditions and performances. When compared the ratios indicating stability, textile and apparel companies did not show much difference in debt ratio and the ratio of earning to interests. However, when compared the profitability ratios measuring the ability to produce incomes, apparel companies showed higher ratios than textile companies. Thus it is important to recognize financial characteristics of each industry.

  • This study focuses on how to improve the use of the sustainable clothing through consignment clothing Stores. This study finds factors for activating consignment clothing stores that can help expand and implement the clothing consumption culture of Korean consumers towards sustainable clothing behavior. The objectives of this study are as follows. First, we identify consumer's sustainable apparel behavior through an in-depth interview with a manager who is currently working in a consignment-selling apparel company in Seoul. Second, we analyze factors for activating a consignment clothing store that help enable the implementation of concrete action plans into Korean culture and towards a sustainable clothing behavior. The study results on consignment clothing stores serve as service factors. First, it increases the participation of consumers in the mindset of secondhand apparel. Second, it secures the quality of used apparel products. Third, it can be seen by expanding the market channel. There is a need to rethink the specialty of apparel products in order to secure the quality of used apparel products and appraisal of experienced apprentices of commodity appraisers.

Effects of Cognitive Age on Perceived Service Quality, Satisfaction, and Repurchase Intentions across the Elderly's Lifestyle Types in Apparel Stores (주관적 연령이 의류점포의 서비스품질 지각, 만족 및 재구매의도에 미치는 영향 - 실버소비자들의 라이프스타일 유형을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cognitive age on service quality, consumer satisfaction, and repurchase intentions across the elderly's lifestyle types in the apparel store. Data were obtained from 853 women in the 50's and 60's living in Busan, and were analyzed by factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test, and path analysis using SPSS WIN 12.0 and LISREL 8.53. The results showed that the lifestyle of elderly consumers was classified into three factors, such as Active self-fidelitist, Economy family-oriented, and Passive-stagnant. Service qualities perceived by the elderly in apparel stores were composed of Personal Service, Facilities Service, Product Service, and Policy Service. Generally, the younger cognized their ages most of the elderly were the more importantly perceived store service quality, the greater satisfied with apparel store services, and the more intended to repurchase apparels at a store. However, economic family-oriented elderlys were the younger cognized their ages, the less satisfied with the apparel service. Additionally, personal and policy services of the apparel store were important variables for elderlys' satisfaction with store services. The findings provide potential explanations and managerial implications for the elderly market.
