커피 추출액에 의한 직물의 염색성과 자외선 차단성 (Dyeing Properties and Ultraviolet-cut Ability of Fabrics Dyed with Coffee Bean Extracts)

  • The coffee has been used as drink in the world and it has been using not only food but also dyeing. It can be used for four seasons in our normal living and it can be taken friendly everywhere. The coffee consists of about 8${\sim}$10% phenol(chlorogenic acid) that related to antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. However, its exact components and the dyeing property effects has not been well known yet. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the dyeing property and ultraviolet-cut ability of silk and nylon fabrics that was dyed variously with coffee extracts. Coffee extracts were done by boiling coffee with distilled water at $100^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. As mordanting agent, we used $AlK(SO_4)_2$ $12H_2O$, $CuSO_4$ $5H_2O$, $FeCl_2$ $4H_2O$. As the result of the dyeing properties and ultraviolet-cut ability of fabrics dyed with coffee bean extracts, we can find that the optimum dyeing temperature and dyeing time of the silk and nylon fabrics dyed with coffee bean extracts was $90^{\circ}C$, 60 min. and the colorfastness of washing and dry-cleaning was improved by using mordanting agent(4${\sim}$5 grade). Ultraviolet-cut ability was showed more 90% in dyed nylon fabrics.

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the incidence of Pasteurella multocida infection in cheju swine from March 1994 to December 1994 isolated organisms were identified by the biochemical properties, cellulose serological type and antibiotic susceptibilities. Pasteurella multocida was isolated from the Lungs of 96 pigs with pneumonia(51 %) among 188 slaughtered pigs. The majority of p multocida isolates were identical to those of the standard strains. On the classification of the capsular type of the isolated p multocida it consist of the 88 isolates of type A(91.6%) 2 isolates of type D (2%) and un classified 6 types(6.2%). The majority of the 96 isolates of p multocida highly susceptible to the antibiotics including ampicillin(Am), cephalotin(Ce), erythromycin(Em), gentamycin(Gm), kanamycin(Km), lincomycin(Lm), neomycin(Nm), penicillin(Pc), streptomycin(Sm), solfametoxazol/trimethoprim(Sxt) and tetracycline(Te)

  • Chitin, a poly $\beta$-(1longrightarrow14)-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, is best known as a cell wall component of fungi and as a skeletal materials of invertebrates. Chitosan is derived from chitin by deacetylation in the presence of alkali. Chitosan has been developed as new physiological materials since it possesses antibacterial activity, hypocholesterolemic activity and antihypertensive action. However, the actions of chitosan in vivo still remain ambiguous as the physiological functional properties because most animal intestines, especially the human gastrointestinal tract, do not possess enzyme such as chitosanase which directly degrade the $\beta$-glucosidic linkage in chitosan, and consequently the unbroken polymers may be poorly absorbed into the human intestine. Therefore, recent studies as chitosan have attracted interest for chitosan oligosaccharides, because the oligosaccharides process not only water-soluble property but also versatile functional properties such as antitumor activity, immune-enhancing effects, enhancement of protective effects against infection with some pathogens in mice and antimicrobial activity (Kingsnorth et al., 1983, Mori et al., 1997). 항균성을 부여하기 위한 세탁과정에서의 은콜로이드 용액 처리 (Colloidal Silver Treatment of Cotton Fabrics after Washing to Impart Antimicorbial Activity)

  • Underwear is laundered frequently and most of them is made of cotton, but a cotton fiber is more difficult to modify than a synthetic fiber. We have attempted to determine the optimum conditions necessary whereby the lowest concentration of silver solution is needed to produce the greatest antimicrobial properties of cotton fabrics. For this study, colloidal silver was made by electrolysis. The concentration of colloidal silver was increased by increasing the area of the silver plates submerged in the water, the water temperature, the water hardness and the flow time of the water per 1l. However, the colloidal silver concentration was decreased by extending a space between the silver plates and increasing the water velocity. Cotton fabrics treated in the washing machine with 1.3 ppm colloidal silver solution for 10 minutes had effective microbial properties and an unperceivable reduction of reflectance.

  • Electroconductive fiber was obtained by acryl fiber treated with $CuSO_4$. The Properties and structure of fiber and fabric such as mechanical property, electrical conductivity, fine structure, electrification were investigated. The experimental results are as follows 1) The electrical conductivity of the conducting fiber was greatly increased but fine structure and physical properties were similar to acryl fiber 2) Fabric made by mix spinning with conducting fiber was shown great electrification effect. 3) In the mix spinning with conducting fiber, it was necessary to use different. finishing such as milled finish because stiffness of fabric made by mix spinning with conducting fiber was increased and elastic recovery was decreased. 4) The antimicrobial activity of electroconductive fiber blended wool was effective by Cu component for shake flask test.

Photocatalyst Effect of Polyester Fabrics Treated with Visible-light Responsive Photocatalyst

  • In this study, we studied the photocatalytic functionality such as deodorant, antibacterial, antistatic of polyester fabrics treated with visible-light responsive photocatalyst. According to UV/visible spectrometry result, the UV-visible peak of visible-light responsive photocatalyst was found to be red shift at 420 nm sensitive in the visible light region. Also, the deodorizing and antimicrobial performance were shown to be retained more than 99% both before washing and even after 25 times washing. According to washing durability of polyester fabrics treated with visible-light responsive photocatalyst, the reduction effects for gas such as ammonia, trimethylamine, formaldehyde and toluene after 25 times washing appeared to be retained as much as before washing. At both before washing and after 25 times washing, antistatic property showed frictional voltage of approximately 250V.

무화과(Fig) 분리 성분의 항균성 규명 및 무화과 비누 제조에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Elucidation of Antimicrobial Activity of Separated Fig Component and the Preparation of Fig Soap)

  • 본 연구는 웰빙(well-being)으로 각광받고 있는 천연물 관련 연구에 무화과 추출물의 활용 가능성을 확인하고자 다음의 연구를 수행하였다. 무화과를 세척 건조하여 알코올추출 방법으로 추출한 후, Column chromatography, G-Mass, IR, $^1H$-nmr 방법에 의하여 무화과 추출물의 이화학적 성질을 분석하였으며, 무화과 추출물을 두피 제품에 적용하기 위하여 항균, 항진균에 대한 항균성을 조사하였다. 무화과 추출물의 이화학적 분석은 열매와 잎으로 나누어 분석하였으며, 두 부분 모두 비듬과 피부병 치료 효능을 가진 항균 및 항진균 효능이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 무화과 추출물에 대한 항균성은 액체배지 희석법에 의해 분석하였다. 그리고 소비자의 구매 욕구를 충족시키고, 무화과의 산업화 타당성을 검토하기 위하여 무화과 추출물 함유 수제 투명 및 고형 비누를 제조하여 타당성을 검토하였다.

Analyzing of the Essential Oil Chemical Constituents in Artemisia lavandulaefolia and its Pharmacological Property on Antibacterial Activity

  • Objective: The aim of this work is to investigate the antibacterial activity of the essential oil obtained from Artemisia lavandulaefolia (A. lavandulaefolia), as the development of microbial resistance to antibiotics make it essential to constantly look for new and active compounds effective against pathogenic bacteria. Method: The aerial parts of A. lavandulaefolia (1 kg) were subjected to steam distillation for 3 h, using a modified Clevenger type apparatus in order to obtain essential oil. Diethyl ether was the extracting solvent kept at 25?. The essential oil were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The essential oil and the composition were tested for antimicrobial activities against 15 different genera of oral bacteria. Ninety-nine compounds accounting for 94.74$\%$</TEX> of the oil were identified. The main compounds in the oil were 1,8-cineole (5.63$\%$), yomogi alcohol (4.49$\%$), camphor (4.92$\%$), a-caryophyllene (16.10$\%$), trans-a-famesene (5.09$\%$), a-terpineol (3.91$\%$), borneol (5.27$\%$), cis-chrysanthenol (6.98$\%$), and a-humulene oxide (3.33$\%$). The essential oil and its compounds were tested for antimicrobial activity against 10 different genera of oral bacteria. Conclusion: The essential oil of A. lavandulaefolia exhibited considerable inhibitory effects against all obligate anaerobic bacteria (MICs, 0.025 - 0.05 ㎎/ml) tested, while their major compounds demonstrated various degrees of growth inhibition

Selection and Characterization of Bacteriocin-Producing Lactobacillus sp. AP 116 from the Intestine of Pig for Potential Probiotics

  • The purpose of this study was to isolate bacteriocin-producing bacteria with antagonistic activities against pathogens from the intestines of pigs for probiotic use. Lactobacillus sp. AP 116 possessing antimicrobial property was selected from a total of 500 isolates. The AP 116 strain showed a relatively broad spectrum of inhibitory activity against Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium perfringens, Pediococcus dextrinicus, and Enterococcus strains using the spot-on-lawn method. Bacteriocin activity remained unchanged after 15 min of heat treatment at $121^{\circ}C$ and exposure to organic solvents; however, it diminished after treatment with proteolytic enzymes. Maximum production of bacteriocin occurred at $34^{\circ}C$ when a pH of 6.0 was maintained throughout the culture during fermentation. According to a tricine SDS-PAGE analysis, the molecular weight of the bacteriocin was approximately 5 kDa. The isolate tolerated bile salts and low pH, and also induced nitric oxide (NO) in mouse peritoneal macrophages. Bacteriocin and bacteriocin-producing bacteria, such as Lactobacillus sp. AP 116, could be potential candidates for use as probiotics as an alternative to antibiotics in the pig industry.
