  • This study was conducted in May of 1996 to December of 1996 in order to investigate the status of rubella antibodies in the women of childbearing age. The subjects were 543 fertile women (Ages 21-42 years). ELISA method was used for the detection of rubella antibodies and then questionaire survey was performed to know about the variables of past history of rubella. past rubella immunization. parity and cognition. The results were as follows: 1. The Positive rate of rubella Ig G antibody in total subjects was $65.0\%$. The positive rate of rubella Ig G antibody was $72.2\%$ in 21-25 age group. $71.4\%$ in 26-30 age group. $54.5\%$ in 31-35 age group, $52.6\%$ in 36-42 age group. As age increased, the positive rate of rubella Ig G antibody was decreased. There was statistically significant difference by age group(P=0.00l). In the subjects with a history of rubella immunization, the positive rate of rubella IgG antibody was $81.8\%$, and in those with past history of rubella was $83.3\%$ of positive rate. 2, Cognition rate about rubella immunization showed $50.8\%$ in total subjects. and there was no significant difference between parity and cognition rate of rubella immunization(P=0.85l). observed a low positive rate of rubella IgG antibody as compaired with other studies. Therefore, to prevent congenital rubella infection, rubella immunization was needed for unmarried women.

  • Background: Pseudorabies (PR), caused by the pseudorabies virus (PRV), is an endemic disease in some regions of China. Although there are many reports on epidemiological investigations into pseudorabies, information on PRV gI antibody dynamics in one pig farm is sparse. Objectives: To diagnose PR and analyze the course of PR eradication in one pig farm. Methods: Ten brains and 1,513 serum samples from different groups of pigs in a pig farm were collected to detect PRV gE gene and PRV gI antibody presence using real-time polymerase chain reaction and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. Results: The July 2015 results indicated that almost all brain samples were PRV gE gene positive, but PRV gI antibody results in the serum samples of the same piglets were all negative. In the boar herd, from October 2015 to July 2018 three positive individuals were culled in October 2015, and the negative status of the remaining boars was maintained in the following tests. In the sow herd, the PRV gI antibody positive rate was always more than 70% from October 2015 to October 2017; however, it decreased to 27% in January 2018 but increased to 40% and 52% in April and July 2018, respectively. The PRV gI antibody positive rate in 100-day pigs markedly decreased in October 2016 and was maintained at less than 30% in the following tests. For 150-day pigs, the PRV gI antibody positive rate decreased notably to 10% in April 2017 and maintained a negative status from July 2017. The positive trend of PRV gI antibody with an increase in pig age remarkably decreased in three tests in 2018. Conclusions: The results indicate that serological testing is not sensitive in the early stage of a PRV infection and that gilt introduction is a risk factor for a PRV-negative pig farm. The data on PRV gI antibody dynamics can provide reference information for pig farms wanting to eradicate PR.

  • The best way to prevent foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) constantly occurring in Korea will be vaccination. In this study, FMD vaccines were given to Korean native cattle (Hanwoo), dairy cattle, and pigs to investigate the antibody positive rate of FMD vaccine by age in year and month. Hanwoo, dairy cattle, and pigs showed antibody positive rates of 99.5%, 97.7%, and 95.9%, respectively. High antibody positive rates more than 95% were found in Hanwoo and dairy cattle. In particular, high antibody positive rates were found in Hanwoo and dairy cattle regardless of age. Pigs showed a relatively low antibody positive rate of 57.6% at 3 months of age and then constantly maintained a high antibody positive rate of above 95.0% after 4 months of age. As a result of this study, high antibody positive rates were found when regular FMD vaccination was given to newborn calves and piglets after FMD vaccination twice to them. Therefore, it is considered the most important to receive vaccination thoroughly according to vaccination plan in order to prevent FMD.

  • This study was conducted to detect the serum antibody of toxoplasma in swine from breeding-pig, rearing-pig farm and slaughtered pig in abattior by latex agglutination(LA) test. The perfomance of LA test was carried out with commercial Toxo-MT kit(Eiken Chemical Co.)by Tsubota and Ozawa's method. The cut-off titer of positive and negative reactions by Toxo-MT antigen used in this experiment was determined as the serum titer of 1 : 32. Positive rate of toxoplasma antibody from the total of 823 serum samples by LA test was 17.0%(140 cases). And positive rates of toxoplasma antibody against serum samples of 194 from breeding-pig farm, 273 from rearing-pig farm and 356 from abattior were 91 cases(46. 9%), 23 cases(8.4%) and 26 cases(7.3%), respectively. The distributions of serum antibody titers in 823 test sera by LA test were shown 51 cases(36.3%) in 1:32, 40(28.6%) in 1:64, 17(12.1%) in 1:128, 14(10.0%) in 1:256, 3(2.1%) in 1:512, 5(3.6%) in 1:1024 and 3(2.1%) in 1:2048. The ranges of positive rate from the sera in each group of breeding-pig farms were 20~61.9%.

  • Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is a delta-retrovirus which causes chronic lymphocytosis in cattle. BLV infections have been divided into two groups such as enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL) and sporadic bovine leukosis (SBL) according to the clinical symptoms in infected cattle. The conventional detection method of BLV was hematological procedure which is determining lymphocytosis in the suspected animals. Recently several sensitive methods were developed to detect antibody to BLV and nucleic acid of the BLV from infected cattle. In this study we have compared the difference of positive rates between agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) which are using for BLV antibody detection methods. The positive detection rate of ELISA test was 7.4% greater than the positive rate of AGID. The discrepancy of the positive rate between ELISA and AGID were showed in the group of age over one year old to under three year old group. The result from each test agreed very well in the group of over 5 year old cattles. The serological test is very useful method to select the infected cattle for the eradication or control of the disease in the infected herd. But it has a limit by interference of the maternal antibody from the cow of under 6 month old. This study shows that 16.2% of these ages group showed BLV gene positive by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. The result suggests that ELISA test need to be used with PCR to clarify misinterpretation of positive animals by antibody response due to the natural infection from maternally derived antibody in calves of under 6 months old.

  • Investigation of leptospiral antibody in Korean cattle and pigs was carried out from February to October, 1971. Ten different living antigens, namely L. icterohaemorrhagiae, L. canicola, L. antumnalis, L. hebdomadis, L. australis A, L. pomona, L. pyrogenes, L. grippotyphosa, L. bataviae and L. javanica, were used. A total of 590 Korean cattle and 460 pig blood samples collected from Seoul Majang-dong slaughterhouse were tested by the rapid microscopic agglutination test. Throughout the studies the following results were obtained and summarized. 1. Of 590 serum samples of Korean cattle 51 were positive(8.64%). 2. Of 460 serum samples of pigs 27 were positive (5.87%). 3. Of 51 positive cattle samples, 29(4.92%) showed antibody to a serotype of L. icterohaemorrhagiae and 18(3.0%) to L. canicola, and 4 (0.68%) to L. pomona. Eight of L. icterohaemorrhagiae positive samples showed a cross reaction to L. canicola. 4. Of 27 positive pig samples, 14(3.04%) showed antibody to L. ictereohaemorrhagiae and 7(1.52%) to L. grippotyphosa. 4(0.87%) to L. canicola, 2(0.43%) to L. pomona. Two of L. canicola positive samples showed a cross reaction to L. grippotyphosa. 5. Serum samples of seven pigs, showing antibody positive to L. grippotyphosa were first observed in Korea. 6. Infection rate of bovine and porcine leptospirosis, in Korea, appeared to be lower than that of Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines.

  • This study was conducted from May to December 2016 to investigate the prevalence of antibody titers for Newcastle disease (ND), Infectious Bronchitis (IB), Egg drop syndrome (EDS), Avian pneumovirus (APV), Fowl Typhoid (FT), Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG), Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) in laying hens in Incheon area. In ND, 418 (99.5%) of the 420 outbreaks were positive. IB showed 330 (78.5%) positive antibody out of 420 cases. EDS showed 419 (99.7%) positive seropositive rates among 420 cases. In the case of APV, 357 cases (85%) were positive in 420 cases. In the case of PT, the positive rate of antibody was 128 (30.4%) out of 420 cases. Among the 420 cases of MG, 222 cases (52.8%) were positive for antibodies. In the case of MS, 395 out of 420 cases (94.0%) were positive. This result suggests that the positive rate of antibody for PT in Incheon area was low. And it was also clear that MS without vaccine is now rampant in Incheon.
