The inhibitory Effect of Sanggenon C from the Root-bark of Morus alba L. on the Growth and the Cellular Adherence of Streptococcus mutans (상백피의 Sanggenon C에 의한 Streptococcus mutans의 생육 및 균부착 저해효과)

  • The methanolic extract of the root-bark of Morus alba L.(Mulberry tree) has the potent antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans. Its active component was identified to be sanggenon C. The active component had stronger anti-bacterial activity than berberine, having minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of $25\;{\mu}g/ml$. Moreover, the inhibitory effect of this component on the cellular adherence of Streptococcus mutans to glass surfaces also was more remarkable than that of berberine in the presence of glucosyltransferase(GTase) and sucrose in vitro. These results indicate that sanggenon C may play an important role in inhibiting plaque formation and caries incidence.

Mechanism of Escherichia Coli Removal by Hydroxyapatite

  • Although most strains of escherichia coli (E. coli) are harmless, some serotypes can cause serious food poisoning in humans. It is very difficult to eliminate E. coli from our lives. Here we show that E. coli can be eliminated by hydroxyapatite (HAp). Because HAp has a positive charge, the material and E. coli are attracted through electrostatic interactions. Additionally, because the surface of HAp is porous, it enters the pores of the HAp surface removing them from the environment. The amount of adsorption was observed to increase over time, and the zeta potential value of the material tended to be similar to that of E. coli. This phenomenon is thought to have zeta potential similar to that of E. coli as it is adsorbed onto the HAp surface over time. E. coli stained with crystal violet was spread on a glass slide and HAp porous sol powder was dropped to remove the E. coli. We expect that this analysis will open a new direction for antibacterial materials.

  • 항균성 및 원적외선 방사량이 높은 원적외선 방사 항균 글라스 및 글라스 세라믹스의 양산화를 위한 유리 용융에 있어 대량용융의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 열처리온도는 5Li₂Oㆍ36CaOㆍ20TiO₂ㆍ27P₂O/sub 5/와 1Ag₂Oㆍ4Li₂Oㆍ36CaOㆍ20TiO₂ㆍ27P₂O/sub 5/ 조성에서 최적핵형성온도가 620℃, 최적결정성장온도가 각각 78℃, 800℃였다. 원가절감을 위산 건식법과 습식법의 결정상분석의 결과 피크의 차이는 거의 없었다. 이온교환의 경우 5.0mol AgNO₃수용액에 담지한 시편에서는 많은 LTP 결정상이 AgTP 결정상으로 변환되기 시작하여 1.0omol 농도의 AgNO₃ 수용액에서는 결정상의 주피크가 AgTP 절정상으로 변이 되었다. 이 결과로 AgNO₃ 수음액 0.5mol 농도 이상의 이온교환시 항균특성에 있어서도 매우 유리하리라 예상되어진다.

  • First of all, the properties imparted to PET fabrics are resistance to and recovery from creasing or wrinkling when wet or dry; high resistance to stretch in the filament yarns but not in the staple; high abrasion resistance; good texture and appearance; resistance to heat ageing; good chemical resistance and good resistance, behind glass, to sunlight. But, the low moisture regain of PET fabric conduces to static troubles in textile processing. Furthermore, garments made from PET may, during wear, develop electric charges which attract to the fabric particles of soil(dirt, swarf, dust) flying in the air, so that the cuffs of shirts, for example, become soiled quickly and are not easily laundered clean. The sericin constitutes 25$\sim$30% of silk protein and surrounds the fibroin fiber with sticky layer that supports the formation of a cocoon. The useful biochemical properties of sericin protein are oxidation resistant, antibacterial, UV resistant, hydrophilic property, and good affinity with hydrophobic material. These properties can be used as an improving reagent or a coating agent for natural and synthetic fibers, fabrics, and other intermediate products. The sericin is also applied to cross-link, and can be blended with other materials. In this study, we modified the surface of PET fabric by mixture of sericin finishing agent; sericin, polyuretane binder and 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) cross-link agent. Also, we investigated the finshing effect; moisture regain, stiffness, handle, drape and electrostatic. The moisture regain of PET fabric treated with sericin finishing agent was higher than that of untreated PET fabric. As a result of evaluating influence about handle of PET fabrics treated with sericin finishing agent, it was confirmed that the sericin finishing agent could be use as a linen like finishing agent.
