  • Switching PFC converters are widely used not only to comply the power quality specification but also for maximum efficiency. However switching PFC converters generate serious electromagnetic interference (EMI). In this paper to solve this problem, we applied the APW(Anti Phase Winding) and RPWM(Ran-dom PWM) technique to PFC boost converter and obtained satisfactory results. Simulation and experimental results show the improved harmonic and reduced EMI effect in air-conditioner system.

  • The vibration that occurs when starting the agricultural tractor is raised more than double compared to the general situation. In this case, impulsive vibration make the machine's life to be shortened, which can cause a driver's physical problems also. Therefore, in this paper, we have taken an effective way to reduce the impulsive vibration that occurs when starting a agricultural tractor. As a result, we confirmed that appling the anti-vibration pads and the high stiffness engine mounts is effective method to reduce the impulsive vibration.

  • In this paper in optimal modulation controller for position control and anti-sway of container crane systems is designed by a recursive algorithm that determines the state weighting matrix Q of a linear quadratic performance. The optimal modulation controller is based on optimal control. The basic feature of the recursive algorithm is the reduction of the number of iterations as well as minimization of the calculations involved So in order to obtain a mathematical model which rep-resents the equation of motion of the trolley and load Lagrange equation is used. The optimal modulation controller has been verified and simulated to show that it is robust when a load dis-turbance is applied and a reference is changed.

  • Prebiotics are defined as substrates that are selectively utilized by host microorganisms conferring various health benefits. Current prebiotic researches not only focus on non-digestible oligosaccharides, but also extend to polyphenols and peptides. However, the extended scope of prebiotic research pertains its original purposes: promotion of beneficial bacteria in host guts and production of valuable metabolites. Maintenance of optimal gut microflora plays a key role in host health care benefits including anti-cancer activity, immune response modulation, blood lipid level reduction, increased mineral absorption, and weight loss. With increasing probiotics markets, prebiotics have also received much attention in functional food markets. Hence, many global food companies tempt to develop new prebiotics applicable for preventing human diseases as well as modulating immune system. In this review, we discuss current status of prebiotics research, market progress, and future perspectives of prebiotics.

  • In this article, a 20 kHz Titanium (Ti) ultrasonic waveguide system for a nano-surface reformation process was designed and fabricated. First, finite element analysis using ANSYS software was performed to find the optimal dimensions. The obtained anti-resonance frequency for the Ti transducer with the piezoelectric device was 20.0 kHz, which value agreed well with the experiment result of 20.1 kHz (0.5% error). To test the system, chromium molybdenum steel (SCM) 435 was chosen as a test-piece. The result proved that the reformed depth was $36{\mu}m$. In addition, hardness was measured before and after the process. The value was changed from 14 HRC to 21 HRC, which is 50% increasing rate. Finally, the friction coefficient test result showed that the surface coefficient was reduced from 0.14 to 0.10 (28.6% reduction). Based on the results, the Ti ultrasonic equipment is regarded as a useful device for nano-scale surface reformation.

  • This study was performed to define the cytotoxicity and the anti-inflammatory action of Pulsatilla koreana extracts. To analyze cytotoxic effects, gingival and periodontal ligament fibroblasts were used, and anti-inflammatory actions related to reduction of $IL-1{\beta}$ and $PGE_2$ production were performed in vitro, for the suggestion of efficacy and safety on periodontal therapeutic use of Pulsatilla koreana extracts. We extracted ethylacetate and butylalcohol from well-dried and ground Pulsatilla koreana throughout multiple processing, then used different concentration solution(0.1 %, 0.2 %, 0.4 %, 0.01 %, 0.02 %, 0.04 %, 1 %, 2 %) of ethylacetate and butylalcohol extracts to examine eytotoxic effects and anti-inflammatory actions Cytotoxic effects were examined by ELISA reader using MTT(Methyl Thiazol-2-YL-2, 5-diphenyl Tetrazolium bromide)solution following culture of human gingival and periodontal ligament fibroblasts. Synthesis of $IL-1{\beta}$was examined by $IL-1{\beta}$ enzyme-immunoassay(EIA)system after separation and culture of monocyte, and $PGE_2$ was examined by $PGE_2EIA$ system after culture of gingival fibroblasts. The results were as follows: 1. In the MTT test of gingival fibroblasts, the change of optical density was decreased significantly at 2 % of butylalcohol extracts and 0.04 %, 0.1 %, 0.2 %, 0.4 %, 1 %, 2 % of ethylacetate extracts.(p<0.05) 2. In the MTT test of periodontal ligament cells, the change of optical density were not differ significantly. but butylalcohol and ethylacetate extracts except from butylalcohol 0.01 % showed high cell cytotoxity. 3. Both ethylacetate and butylalcohol extracts from Pulsatilla koreana inhibited the synthesis of $IL-1{\beta}$and inhibition effect of ethylacetate extracts were higher than butylalcohol extracts. 4. Both ethylacetate and butylalcohol extracts from Pulsatilla koreana inhibited the synthesis of $PGE_2$, and ethylacetate extracts were higher than butylalcohol extracts. In conclusion, ethylacetate and butylalcohol extracts from Pulsatilla koreana showed little cell cytotoxity for gingival and periodontal ligament fibroblasts, and the inhibition of $IL-1{\beta}$ and $PGE_2$ sysnthesis, therefore it is considered that these extracts can be developed as the therapeutics of the periodontal disease.

  • Staphylococcus aureus, like other gram-positive pathogens, has evolved a large repertoire of virulence factors as a powerful weapon to subvert the host immune system, among which alpha-hemolysin (Hla), a secreted pore-forming cytotoxin, plays a preeminent role. We observed a concentration-dependent reduction in Hla production by S. aureus in the presence of sub-inhibitory concentrations of isorhamnetin, a flavonoid from the fruits of Hippophae rhamnoides L., which has little antibacterial activity. We further evaluate the effect of isorhamnetin on the transcription of the Hla-encoding gene hla and RNAIII, an effector molecule in the agr system. Isorhamnetin significantly down-regulated RNAIII expression and subsequently inhibited hla transcription. In a co-culture of S. aureus and lung cells, topical isorhamnetin treatment protected against S. aureus-induced cell injury. Isorhamnetin may represent a leading compound for the development of anti-virulence drugs against S. aureus infections.

  • Pharmacological effects of Panax ginseng have been demonstrated in cardiovascular system, endocrine secretion and immune system, together with antitumor, anti-stress and anti-oxidant activities. Modern scientific data show protective effect of ginseng against bone marrow cell death, increased survival rate of experimental animals, recovery of hematopoietic injury, immunopotentiation, reduction of damaged intestinal epithelial cells, inhibition of mutagenesis and effective protection against testicular damages, caused by radiation exposure. And also, ginseng acts in indirect fashion to protect radical processes by inhibition of initiation of free radical processes and thus reduces the radiation damages. The research has made much progress, but still insufficient to fully uncover the action mechanism of ginseng components on the molecule level. This review provides the usefulness of natural product, showing no toxic effects, as an radioprotective agent. Furthermore, the further clinical trials on radioprotection of ginseng need to be highly done to clarify its scientific application. The effective components of ginseng has been known as ginsenosides. Considering that each of these ginsenosides has pharmacological effect, it seems likely that non-saponin components might have radioprotective effects superior to those of ginsenosides, suggesting its active ingredients to be non-saponin series. These results also show that the combined effects of saponin and non-saponin components play an important role in the radioprotective effects of ginseng.

  • Leishmaniasis is a neglected and endemic disease that affects poorest population mainly in developing countries. A lack of adequate and definitive chemotherapeutic agents to fight against this infection has led to the investigation of numerous compounds. The aim of this study was to investigate in vitro activity of boldine against Leishmania amazonensis murine cell infection. Boldine ((S)-2,9-dihydroxy-1,10-dimethoxy-aporphine) is an aporphine alkaloid found abundantly in the leaves/bark of boldo (Peumus boldus Molina), a widely distributed tree native to Chile. The in vitro system consisted of murine macrophage infection with amastigotes of L. amazonensis treated with different concentrations from 50 to $600{\mu}g/ml$ of boldine for 24 hr. Intracellular parasite destruction was assessed by morphological examination and boldine cytotoxicity to macrophages was tested by the MTT viability assay. When cells were treated with $100{\mu}g/ml$ of boldine the reduction of parasite infection was 81% compared with untreated cultures cells. Interestingly, boldine-treatment caused a concentration-dependent decrease of macrophage infection that culminated with 96% of reduction when cells were submitted to $600{\mu}g/ml$ of boldine. Cell cultures exposed to $100{\mu}g/ml$ of boldine and $300{\mu}g/ml$ of $Glucantime^{(R)}$ during 24 hr showed a significant reduction of 50% in parasitized cells compared with cell cultures exposed just to $Glucantime^{(R)}$. The study showed that treatment with boldine produces a better effect than treatment with the reference antimonial drug, glucantime, in L. amazonensis infected macrophage. Our results suggest that boldine is a potentially useful agent for the treatment of leishmaniasis.

  • As an effective weapon system for anti-submarine warfare, DIrectional Frequency Analysis and Recording (DIFAR) sonobuoy detects underwater targets via beamforming with three channels composed of an omni-direcitonal and two directional channels. However, ambient noise degrades the detection performance of DIFAR sonobouy in specific direction (0°, 90°, 180°, 270°). Thus, an ambient noise redcution technique is proposed for performance improvement of acoustic target detection of DIFAR sonobuoy. The proposed method is based on OTA (Order Truncate Average), which is widely used in sonar signal processing area, for ambient noise estimation and Wiener filtering, which is widely used in speech signal processing area, for noise reduction. For evaluation, we compare mean square errors of target bearing estmation results of conventional and proposed methods and we confirmed that the proposed method is effective under 0 dB signal-to-noise ratio.
