Pericarpium castaneae extracts have variously potent activities, such as anti-oxidative activity and free radical scavenging activity. in vivo and in vitro studies both indicate that pericarpium castaneae extracts acts as a free radical scavenger($IC_{50}:7.6{\mu}g/ml$) stronger than gallic acid($IC_{50}:12.5{\mu}g/ml$) and ellagic acid($IC_{50}:15{\mu}g/ml$) which could prevent cutaneous UV damages and skin aging. The extracts showed a good effect as a anti-oxidant($IC_{50}:50{\mu}g/ml$). It was shown that the appearance of wrinkle in human skin was reduced by topical application of pericarpium castaneae extracts. And the treatment of human skin with the extracts increased the elasticity and moisture of the skin. We investigated the effect of the pericarpium castaneae extracts on production of extracellular matrix using cultured A431 fibroblast cells. The results indicated that the extracts had no detectable effect on collagen synthesis. But synthesis of cell adhesion protein was increased by the extracts. The results suggest that increase of cell adhesion protein synthesis by pericarpium castaneae extracts has closely related to reduction of wrinkle in skin.

For investigation of anti-angiogenesis mechanism of Anthrisci radix, Psoraleae semen, Siegesbeckiae herba and Corni fructus, anti-cell adhesion experiment was performed. The adhesion of U937 cells to IL-$1\beta$-stimulated HUVECs was completely suppressed by 276% at 0.2 mg/L of Anthrisci radix, 220% at 5 mg/L of Psoraleae semen, 158% at 10 mg/L of Siegesbeckiae herba and 132% at 20 mg/L of Corni fructus, respectively. And the adhesion of PMA-chemical stimulated U937 cells to HUVECs, it was inhibited 139% at 0.2 mg/L of Anthrisci radix, 442% at 5 mg/L of Psoraleae semen, 720% at 10 mg/L of Siegesbeckiae herba and 664% at 20 mg/L of Corni fructus. Also, the adhesion of chemical stimulated U937 cells to IL-$1\beta$/chemical stimullated HUVECs, it was inhibited by 286% at 0.2 mg/L of Anthrisci radix, 146% at 5 mg/L of Psoraleae semen, 436% at 10 mg/L of Siegesbeckiae herba and 297% at 20 mg/L of Corni fructus, respectively. It would be a useful substance for anti-cell adhesion based on anti-angiogenesis for anti-obesity and anti-cancer.
In the aircraft industry, anti- and de-icing are one of very important techniques for the safety. The anti-icing technique had not been studied while de-icing technique had been not only researched enough but applied to aircraft industry. In this work, surface roughness and energies of polyurethane (PU) topcoat were controlled with 3 different nanoparticles which was coated to PU topcoat. It was evaluated via static contact angle using distilled water. The adhesion property of 3 nanoparticles was evaluated directly using adhesion pull-off test. The color gamut of nanoparticle coated PU topcoat was also evaluated with 3 different nanoparticles. It was determined using RGB color degree variation between neat PU topcoat and coated nanoparticle. Finally, the optimized nanoparticle was determined to manufacture hydrophobic surface and to maintain color of neat PU topcoat for the aircraft.
Tumor cell interaction with the extracellular matrix is defined as the critical event of tumor invasion that signals the initiation of a metastatic cascade. Sesquicillin has been identified as an inhibitor of melanoma cell adhesion to the components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in cultured broth of fungal strain F60063. Sesquicillin strongly inhibited the adhesion of B16 melanoma cells to laminin, fibronectin, and typeIV collagen. It also inhibited B16 melanoma cell invasion of reconstituted basement membrane Matrigel in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that sesquicillin is a new class of nonpeptidic ECM adhesion inhibitor having anti-invasive activity.
Background: Platycodin D (PD), a triterpenoid saponin isolated from the Chinese medicinal herb Platycodonis radix, possesses anti-cancer effects in several cancer cell lines. The aim of this study was to evaluate its anticancer activities in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Materials and Methods: MTT and colony formation assays were performed to evaluate cell proliferation, along with flow cytometry and Western blotting for apoptosis. Cell adhesion was tested by observing cellular morphology under a microscope, while the transwell assay was employed to investigate the cell migration and invasion. Results: PD concentration-dependently inhibited cell proliferation in both HepG2 and Hep3B cells, and significantly suppressed colony formation and induced apoptosis in HepG2 cells. The protein levels of cleaved poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) and Bax were up-regulated while that of survivin was down-regulated after treatment with PD. Moreover, PD not only obviously suppressed the adhesion of HepG2 cells to Matrigel, but also remarkably depressed their migration and invasion induced by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA). Conclusions: PD presents anti-cancer potential in hepatocellular carcinoma cells via inducing apoptosis, and inhibiting cell adhesion, migration and invasion, indicating promising features as a lead compound for anti-cancer agent development.

In this study, intermolecular crosslinked carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt (CMC) and porcine Cartilage Acellular Matrix (PCAM) blended hydrogel films for anti-adhesive barriers were prepared by gamma-ray radiation. The effects of the CMC/PCAM concentration and blending ratio on the morphology, gel fraction, gel strength, and degree of swelling were determined. The results indicated that crosslinked CMC/PCAM films show significantly lower the gel-fraction than CMC films. The degree of attachment and proliferation of human vascular endothelial cells on CMC/PCAM films was lower than the CMC films. We show the capacity of the CMC and PCAM to be hydrogel films, and the ability to reduce cell adhesion and proliferation on these films by modification with cell anti-adhesion molecules of PCAM. In conclusion, this study suggests that radiation cross-linked CMC/PCAM hydrogel films endowed with anti-adhesion ligands may allow for improved regulation of cell anti-adhesion behavior for prevent peritoneal adhesions.

Recently, concrete facility as advanced water treatment facilities is extending in the water treatment facilities according to raise awareness of pure drinking water and delicious water. For this reason, it is increased to the necessity need to make the standard and the development of waterproofing and anti-corrosion materials for concrete structures applied water treatment tank. So, related research has become active recently. However, as the limit of research focused on durability improvement of top coating material, it is insufficient to study on the adhesion strength between the concrete surface and primer. Therefore, there is to confirm the adhesion of between concrete surface and the three primers used as anti-corrosion waterproofing materials, and to investigate the properties of adhesion strength according to the condition such as dry condition, wet condition, and water pressure condition of the concrete surface in this study.
Helicobacter pylori infection causes gastrointestinal diseases such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, and may lead to gastric cancer. Several studies have reported that lactobacilli present on broccoli show inhibitory activity against H. pylori. Here, we evaluated aqueous broccoli, fermented by Lactobacillus plantarum MG208, for its fermentation characteristics and anti-H. pylori activities including antibacterial activity, growth inhibition, anti-adhesion, and urease inhibition. The results indicated that the fermentation characteristics changed significantly depending on the amount of aqueous broccoli used for fermentation (p <0.05). There was no significant difference between the samples before fermentation (p >0.05). However, a significant concentration-dependent difference was noted in antibacterial activity and urease inhibition (p <0.05) following the addition of aqueous broccoli. Growth inhibition in the 10 mg/mL sample was significantly higher as compared to the negative control and similar to that with amoxicillin (positive control) (p <0.05). Anti-adhesion activity of aqueous broccoli was also significantly different (p <0.05) from the negative control. Therefore, aqueous broccoli fermented by L. plantarum MG208 could prove useful as a functional diet for protection of the gastric environment against H. pylori infection.
This study was attempted to investigate the anti-tumor and anti-metastatic effects of Sobokchukeotang(SBCT) and Kamisobokchukeotang(KSBCT). Cytotoxicity against various cancer cell lines, anti-adhesion, pulmonary colonization, anti-angiogenesis, and T/C% were evaluated. SBCT and KSBCT exhibited no cytotoxicity against HT-1080, A549, SK-OV-3, B16-F10 and SK-Mel-2 cell lines. In inhibitory effect on DNA topoisomerase I, the $IC_{50S}$ were shown $250-500{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/ml$ of SBCT and $62.5-125{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/ml$ of KSBCT respectively. In the in vivo experiments, SBCT(135.98%) and KSBCT(151.92%) apparently increased the life span of mice bearing sarcoma-180. KSBCT significantly inhibited the adhesion of HT-1080 to complex extracellular matrix in a dose-dependent manner in contrast to SBCT. In pulmonary colonization assay by B16-F10, a number of colonies in the lungs were decreased more significantly in KSBCT group than those in SBCT group. In vitro neovascularization and CAM assay, angiogenesis was more significantly inhibited in KSBCT-treated group than in SBCT- treated group. Above results suggests that KSBCT is more effectively applied to prevention and treatment of cancer than SBCT.
