  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for elderly women's clothing construction and to develop dress form that can reflect the characteristics of their bodies. Three hundred twenty subjects, between the ages of 60∼85, were chosen and the data were collected from 59 anthropometric measurements of each subject. Data were analyzed by factor analysis of principal component model, cluster analysis, analysis of variance and duncan test. The results are as follows : 1. A decrease in height, an enlargement of the waist and abdomen area, and a dropped bustline are characteristics of elderly women. The upper-torso droops as a ge increase 2. Seven factors were extracted from anthropometric measurements. Factor components were obesity, height, shoulder shaper, the center front bodice length, the center back bodice length, the bust and neck shape, the degree and level of scapular protusion. 3. After analyzing seven factors, four types were categorized.

  • The association of menarche and nutritional status was studied in 116 female students of the 6 th grade in a rural primary school. Participants were divided into two groups based on menarcheal status. The anthropometric data showed that mean heights and weights of menarcheal group on two occasions were significantly higher than those of the other group (p<0.01). Neither hemoglobin levels nor hematocrit values for determination of anemia were not associated with menarche. Twenty four hour dietary recall revealed that young females with menarche consumed less energy and Ca compared to the other group. Ca intake was 34.8% of RDA in menarcheal group. It might be suggested that effective intervention strategies need to be developed and include education programs for nutritional needs and food sources of Ca, targeting rural residents.

  • To evaluate the effect of obesity on serum leptin and insulin levels in 80 elementary school children (aged 10.8 yr, 47 boys, 33 girls), we collected the anthropometric data and measured serum leptin and insulin levels. Serum leptin level and insulin resistance are known as factors which are associated with obesity and obesity related diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension. The results were as follows. The serum levels of insulin (p<0.001), leptin (p<0.001) and HOM $A_{IR}$ (p<0.001) in obese group were significantly higher than those of other groups. The obesity indices correlated significantly to serum levels of insulin and leptin, but not to fasting glucose level. These results suggested that circulating leptin and insulin concentrations may act as a humoral signal indicator to adiposity-associated metabolic disorder in elementary school children.

  • A nutrition survey of 274 children, 6 to 12 years old, in the Nan Hyang elementary school, which offers no school lunch program and is situated in Shinllim 7-dong of Seoul, as the location of one of the socioeconomically vulnerable groups, was undertaken in July of 1989, to investigate nutritional status. anthropometric data of subjects surveyed slightly lower results than the Korean standards and further lower results than those of Yun Jung elementary school children of Youido, Seoul. 16.3% of subjects were proven to be anemic according to the hematocrit criterion established by the WHO. Mean urinary urea nitrogen/creatinine ration was 9.5$\pm$4.1. Family environment were positively correlated with anthropometric data and results of biochemical tests.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the nutritional status and dietary intake of gastrectomized cancer patients. For this study, from 1993. 1 to 1993. 8, 50 postoperative gastric cancer patients were selected to examine anthropometric and laboratory data(Body Weight, Body Fat, serum Albumin, Total Lympocyte count), and dietary intake related symptoms. The results were 1) All anthropometric and laboratory data were significantly deteriorated by gastrectomy(s-Albumin, TLC. Body Fat : p<0.001). Weight loss of gastrectomized patients was 8.23$\pm$3.72% from admission to discharge. 2) In many gastrectomized cancer patients, preoperative dietary intake was decreased by abdominal discomfort, indigestion, early satiety, and anorexia. 3) Postoperative energy intake was 602$\pm$158㎉, and it is correspond to 31.18$\pm$.90% of daily energy requirement(1918$\pm$236㎉). The cause of poor oral intake is mostly fear, abdominal distension and fullness, and early satiety. In consideration of the fact that an inadequate energy intake was the main cause of the decreasing nutritional status, a careful nutritional care and dietary education is necessry after gastrectomy.

  • The purpose of this research is to measure range of virtual hip joint and lower limb joints motion such as the hip, knee and ankle joints for 47 young male students. The results of ANOVA revealed that anthropometric dimensions including weight and stature did not show any significant effects on the range of virtual hip joint and lower limb joints motion and the range of motion with two degrees of freedom at the shoulder, virtual hip and hip joints. Anthropometric dimensions such as age, weight, statuire, arm length, shoulder height and leg length were found to be lowly correlated with the range of virtual hip joint and lower limb joints motion. It is expected that the data on the range of joint motion suggested in this study can be used as a valuable input data when designing workplace, predicting human posture and reach volume, etc.

  • The purpose of the study is to suggest a methodology for properly categorizing the body type of Koreans based on the multivariate statistical analysis. Anthropometric data used in the study were measured from the sampled strata of about fifteen thousand Koreans surveyed through the 5th national anthropometic data measurement project called Size Korea funded by ATS, Korea, during 2003-2004. In order to categorize whole body types, the normalized anthropometric variables, being divided by its stature, were used for obtaining a set of factors that supposedly represent body types through the factor analysis. These factors, which were again clustered, yielded the body types according to the gender. The body types classified are expected to be applied to product design for clothing, furniture, automobile packaging, etc.

  • Human dummies are essential tools in the development of such sensible products as vehicles. Dummies are actively used not only in reach and view field tests, major ergonomic evaluations, but also in impact tests and perception evaluations. This study attempts to obtain possible correlations of human body segments from Korean anthropometric data. The investigation is focused on the description of human and dummy geometric and inertial properties. The modeling approach suggested is based on rigid body dynamics using fifteen individual body segments connected by joints. The segments are joined at locations representing the physical joints of the human body and have the mass of the body between body joints. For visualization, a three-dimension graphic technique is used ...

  • A three dimensional body scanner for anthropomentric measurement has been developed. In this study, the slit laser beam projection method followed by digital image processing was used to provide accurate spatial data with the typical optical triangulation method to overcome the many difficulties in traditional in accurate and time-consuming tactic measurement method using rulers and gauges. Compared with other commercialized scanners. this system can obtain a relatively wide range of data at a much lower cost by the specially designed scanning process such as the simultaneous acquisition of vertical and horizontal body cross-section profiles.

  • In this study, the representative hand shapes for the adult Koreans were analyzed by factor analysis and cluster analyses. The analyses were conducted on the anthropometric data of 58 hand dimensions from 325 subjects having nonhomogeneous demographics. Maximum hand circumference, first phalanx length of index finger, and ratio between the two measures were the independent variables for the cluster analyses. The results of the study showed that Korean hand shapes can be divided into 2 clusters irrespective of their size for each of the male and female group. There were slight differences in component ratio of hand shapes with respect to the occupation and the age, but their differences were not statistically significant. The representative Korean hand shapes and their anthrpometric dimensions could be used to design and establish proper sizing system for various hand operating devices.
