  • In this paper, we analyze a SFBC-OFDM(Space Frequency Block Code-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system with antenna selection method using pilot symbols. An antenna selection criterion is based on channel coefficients estimated from pilot symbols. At each frequency, the channel coefficients is arranged and the best is selected, and then data is sent to those antenna with the best coefficients. Also, The coding and diversity gain of the proposed system are analyzed.

  • The millimeter wave that uses the spectrum in the 30GHz~300GHz band has a shorter wavelength due to its high carrier frequency, so it is suitable for Massive MIMO systems because more antennas can be equipped in the base station. However, since an RF chain is required per antenna, hardware cost and power consumption increase as the number of antennas increases. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate antenna selection schemes to solve this problem. In order to solve the problem of high computational complexity in the exhaustive search based antenna selection scheme, we propose a approach of applying deep learning technology. An best antenna combination is predicted using a DNN model capable of classifying multi-classes. By simulation tests, we compare and evaluate the existing antenna selection schemes and the proposed deep learning-based antenna selection scheme.

  • In this paper, the performance of precoding-aided differential spatial modulation (PDSM) systems with optimal transmit antenna subset (TAS) selection is examined analytically. The average bit error rate (ABER) performance of the optimal TAS selection-based PDSM systems using a zero-forcing (ZF) precoder is evaluated using theoretical upper bound and Monte Carlo simulations. Simulation results validate the analysis and demonstrate a performance penalty < 2.6 dB compared with precoding-aided spatial modulation (PSM) with optimal TAS selection. The performance analysis reveals a transmit diversity gain of (NT-NR+1) for the ZF-based PDSM (ZF-PDSM) systems that employ TAS selection with NT transmit antennas, NS selected transmit antennas, and NR receive antennas. It is also shown that reducing the number of activated transmit antennas via optimal TAS selection in the ZF-PDSM systems degrades ABER performance. In addition, the impacts of channel estimation errors on the performance of the ZF-PDSM system with TAS selection are evaluated, and the performance of this system is compared with that of ZF-based PSM with TAS selection.

  • In this paper, the downlink performance of multi-cell distributed antenna systems (DAS) with a single user in each cell is investigated. Assuming the channel state information is available at the transmitter, four transmission modes are formulated as combinations of remote antenna units (RAUs) selection and cooperative transmission, namely, non-cooperative transmission without RAU selection (NCT), cooperative transmission without RAU selection (CT), non-cooperative transmission with RAU selection (NCT_RAUS), and cooperative transmission with RAU selection (CT_RAUS). By using probability theory, the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of a user's signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and the system ergodic capacity under the above four modes are determined, and their closed-form expressions are obtained. Furthermore, the system energy efficiency (EE) is studied by introducing a realistic power consumption model of DAS. An expression for determining EE is formulated, and the closed-form tradeoff relationship between spectral efficiency (SE) and EE is derived as well. Simulation results demonstrate their consistency with the theoretical analysis and reveal the factors constraining system EE, which provide a scientific basis for future design and optimization of DAS.

  • Up to now, many state-of-arts have been proposed for two-way relaying system with linear modulations. The performances of antenna selection (AS) at both transmit and relay nodes need to be investigated in some two-way relaying multiple-input multiple-output (TWRM) systems. In this paper, the goal is focused on the study of nonlinear modulations, i.e., continuous phase modulation (CPM) in TWRM systems. Firstly, the joint phase trellis are simplified by reversed Rimoldi processing so as to reduce the systems' complexity. Then the performances of joint transmit and receive antenna selection (JTRAS) with CPM modulations in two-way relaying MIMO systems are analyzed. More exactly, the pair wise probability (PEP) is used to evaluate the error performance based on the CPM signal matrix, which is calculated in terms of Laurent expression. Since the channels subject to two terminal nodes share common antennas at relay node R in multiple-access scheme, we revise the JTRAS algorithm and compare it to existing algorithm via simulation. Finally, the error performances for various schemes of antenna selection are simulated and compared to the analysis in this paper.

  • Antenna grouping algorithm is hybrid of beamforming and spatial multiplexing. In antenna grouping system, we partition $N_t$ transmit antennas into $N_r$ groups and use beamforming in a group, spatial multiplexing between groups. We can transmit $N_r$ data streams in the $N_t{\times}N_r$ antenna grouping system. With antenna grouping, we can achieve diversity gain through beamforming, and high spectral efficiency through spatial multiplexing. But if channel is ill-conditioned or there are some correlations between antennas, the performance of antenna grouping is seriously degraded and in that case, beamforming is the best transmit strategy. By selecting the antenna grouping mode when channel is well-conditioned and by selecting the beamforming mode when channel is ill-conditioned, we can prevent serious fluctuation of BER performance caused by varying channel condition and achieve the best BER performance. In this paper, we investigate mode selection algorithm which can select antenna grouping mode or beamforming mode. we also propose a simple mode selection criterion.

  • The future wireless communication systems will use spatial multiplexing with Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO) system to take advantage of large channel capacity gains. In such systems it will be desirable to select a sub-set of available transmit or receive antennas to reduce cost and complexity. In this paper we propose a novel antenna selection schemes for MIMO systems be suitable for multipath environment. Also, we analyze the capacity and define the outage probability for a novel antenna selection schemes for MIMO systems in multipath environment.

  • Transmit antenna selection techniques are prominent since they exploit the spatial selectivity at the transmitter side. In the literature, antenna selection techniques assume full knowledge of the channel state information (CSI). In this paper, we consider that the CSI is not perfectly known at the transmitter; however, a quantized version of the channel coefficients is fed back by the users. We employ the non-uniform Lloyd-Max quantization algorithm which takes into consideration the distribution of the channel coefficients. Simulation results show that the degradation in the BER of the system with imperfect CSI at the transmitter is tolerable, especially when the transmit diversity order is high.

  • For dual-hop multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) decode-and-forward relaying systems, we propose a selective relaying scheme that uses orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) and transmit antenna selection with maximal-ratio combining (TAS/MRC) or vice versa at the first and second hops, respectively. The aim is to achieve an asymptotically identical performance to the dual-hop relaying system with only TAS/MRC, while requiring lower feedback overhead. In particular, we give the selection criteria based on the antenna configurations and the average channel powers for the first and second hops, assuming Rayleigh fading channels. Also, the numerical results are shown for the outage performance comparison between the dual-hop DF relaying systems with the proposed scheme, only TAS/MRC, and only OSTBC.

  • In this paper, a novel spatial modulation (SM) with transmit antenna selection (TAS) based on maximizing channel capacity is proposed. Comparing to the conventional TAS technique, the proposed TAS considers the channel capacity of the MIMO channel with antenna selection. The optimal antenna set selection is applied to SM by taking account of the all possible sets, and then, a sub-optimal antenna set selection is also proposed for reducing the computational complexity of the optimal method. Computer simulations show that the proposed TAS significantly outperforms the existing SM scheme based on the magnitude of the channel vectors in terms of bit error rate (BER) in various environments.
