  • A novel fully-printed microstrip antenna with negative first resonance and dual polarization is proposed. The radiator is printed on the 1-layer substrate instead of multilayers. The -1st resonance results from a composite right- and left-handed(CRLH) structure that has a circumferentially interlocked gap capacitively coupling a patch with a shorted-ring. This compact antenna is provided with a dual-polarization capability by creating two orthogonal linear polarizations in one body with coaxial feeds. The design is carried out by doing full-wave EM field simulation which is compared with the measurement of the fabricated antenna prototype. The measured results give the gain of 5 dBi and the efficiency of 78% at the -1st resonance mode as the center frequency of a downlink channel of the bandwidth over 20 MHz with 29 dB polarization isolation for mobile communication.

  • In this paper, a integrated structure of a two-element microstrip patch antenna with two feeds for GPS/PCS dual-band operation is proposed. The radiating element for PCS operation is a novel broad band low-profile cylindrical monopole top-loaded with a shorted meander patch, which gives linearly polarized conical radiation pattern and size reduction of patch due to meander line. The radiating element for GPS operation is a novel square-ring microstrip patch with truncated corners and slits. which provide circularly polarized broadside radiation patterns and size reduction due to slots. using dielectric substrate in GPS antenna of proposed antenna provide to improve isolation between two feeds and reduce size of patch. The proposed antenna achieves the bandwidth and polarization requirements of GPS and PCS systems.

  • In this paper, we report on the channel capacity and diversity gain of the vehicle on-glass antenna for FM radio reception. The correlation coefficient and channel capacity were obtained using the simulated 3D radiation pattern of each antenna and the Rayleigh channel model for urban environment. To examine the channel capacity we used two antennas which are a simple straight antenna and L-type antenna. Then we observed the available channel capacity by varying the position of feeds and the shape of the L-type antenna. The sample antenna, which has a maximum feed distance with different polarizations, was built and the receiving performance was measured in the weak FM field area. From the results we confirmed that the distance between the feeds should be placed as far as possible for the high channel capacity. If the distance between the feeds are greater than a certain threshold value than the polarizations of the two antennas are getting more important for determining the channel capacity.

  • We propose a small active antenna to receive Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals, i.e., Global Positioning System (GPS) L1 (1,575MHz) and Russian Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) L1 (1,600 MHz) signals. A two-stage low-noise amplifier (LNA) with more than 27 dB gain is implemented in the bottom layer of a three-layer antenna package. In addition, a hybrid coupler is used to combine signals from pair of proximately coupled orthogonal feeds with $90^{\circ}$ phase difference to achieve the circular polarization (CP) characteristic. Three layers of high permittivity (${\varepsilon}_r=10$) substrates are stacked and effectively integrated to have a small dimension of $64mm{\times}64mm{\times}7.42mm$ (including both circuit and antenna). The reflection coefficient of the fabricated antenna at the target frequency is below -10 dB, the measured antenna gain is above 26 dBic and the measured noise figure is less than 1.4 dB.

  • The Ku band that has been using for the satellite communication and broadcasting would be changed to K/Ka bands. The satellite system requires the antenna structure to fabricate low loss and small antenna that is able to be integrated with other Rf circuits for both Rx and Tx. So we should design it with dual feed antennas at K/Ka bands, high isolation between two different feeds and broadband circular polarization. This paper proposes the LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) process for integration with other Rf circuits and the Axial mode of the helical antenna to satisfy those requirements.

  • In this paper, we present design results for an orthomode transducer(OMT) to be used in multi-band antenna feeds. The OMT is realized in the form of a tapered square waveguide, where 18-20 GHz ports are placed in the taper region normal to the waveguide axis, while 30-45 GHz ports are placed in line with the waveguide axis. The reflection coefficient of each port is designed to be less than 20 dB, while the isolation between ports are greater than 15 dB. Thin septa are placed in side ports to reduce the effect of side ports on the return loss of the in-line port. The commercial software HFSS? is used to design the whole structure.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact broadband planar dipole antenna fed by a microstrip (MS) line is studied. The proposed broadband dipole is optimized for terrestrial digital television (DTV) receiving. The dipole is fed by an MS line with 75-ohm characteristic impedance on an FR4 substrate and its size is $90mm{\times}180mm$. The dipole is modified to half bow-tie type for size reduction. A simplified balun is adopted for the impedance matching between the MS line and coplanar strip which feeds the dipole. The optimized dipole antenna for DTV band (470-806 MHz) is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.

  • This paper presents a microstrip patch array antenna having transmission feed and reception feed for satellite communication in the Ku band. In this paper, the element of the patch array antenna is a three-stacked structure consisting of one radiation patch and two parasitic patches for high gain and wide bandwidth characteristics. To obtain higher gain, the unit elements are expanded into a $1{\times}8$ may using a mixture of series and parallel feeds. The proposed antenna has horizontal polarization for the Rx band and vertical polarization for the Tx band. To verify the practicality of this antenna, we fabricated a three-stacked patch array antenna and measured its performance. The gain of the array antenna in the Rx and Tx bands exceeds 17 and 18 dBi, respectively. The impedance bandwidth is over 10 % in both bands. The cross-polarization level is below -25 dB, and the sidelobe level is below -9.4 dB.
