  • In order to apply to land mine detection effectively, GPR using an optical electric field sensor as a receiver has been developed. The optical electric field sensor is very small and uses optical fiber instead of metallic coaxial cable. With the combination of these advantages and the bistatic radar system, it can be possible for an operator to measure quite flexible and safely. The sensor has been tested in stepped frequency radar system with frequency which consists of a vector network analyzer, a fixed double ridged horn antenna as transmitter. For considering effectiveness in real field, we applied impulse radar system, which consist of a digital oscilloscope and a impulse generator to produce the impulse. Detection of a PMN2 mine model was carried out by the impulse radar system at a sand pit. The PMN2 were detected clearly with sufficiently high resolution, the target contrast was almost the same while the scanning time decreased down to 1/100.

  • High-frequency electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation associated with borehole ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a complicated phenomenon. To improve the understanding of the governing physical processes, we employ a finite-difference time-domain solution of Maxwell's equations in cylindrical coordinates. This approach allows us to model the full EM wavefield associated with crosshole GPR surveys. Furthermore, the use of cylindrical coordinates is computationally efficient, correctly emulates the three-dimensional geometrical spreading characteristics of the wavefield, and is an effective way to discretise explicitly small-diameter boreholes. Numerical experiments show that the existence of a water-filled borehole can give rise to a strong waveguide effect which affects the transmitted waveform, and that excitation of this waveguide effect depends on the diameter of the borehole and the length of the antenna.

  • In this paper, we propose the opportunistic channel state information feedback scheme for eigen based scheduling in multiuser MIMO systems. According to 3GPP SMC channel model, the system capacity of MU-MIMO systems is severly degraded, since the antennas are highly correlated in urban macro cell. Although the eigen based scheduling scheme mitigates the adverse effect of the antenna correlation, it achieves only small amount of the multiuser diversity gain. Since the opportunistic channel state information scheme can achieve sufficient multiuser diversity gain, the system capacity of MU-MIMO systems can be improved. The system capacity improvement is verified by the computer simulation results.

  • In this paper, the performances of the presented D2D (device-to-device) systems under the environment of the cognitive convergent overlay networks are evaluated based upon the locations of the D2D users' terminals, the power consumptions of the terminals and the reductions of the interference levels. As the capabilities of the users' terminals improve, the optimization of the system is crucial to the efficient utilization of the radio resources of the individual networks considering their mobility and the features of their networks. Users' mobility model is given for the performance evaluation of the D2D system. In this paper, the performances of the D2D systems are evaluated in terms of the performance index of the FER (frame error rate) employing multiantenna techniques (MIMO:multiple input multiple output) for the various network environments.

  • In this paper, we propose the MIMO circular polarization feed network to enhance the communication performances from the previous $2{\times}2$ MIMO channel to $4{\times}4$ channel for Land Mobile Satellite communication system. The only possibility to extend the communication channel is to use the additional satellite because of the limitation of satellite spaces to install additional antennas. For overcoming this problems, we propose the MIMO circular polarization feed network to secure the isolation characteristics without the distant antenna space. The port isolation characteristics and each port impedance matching conditions are numerically verified and we suggest the $4{\times}4$ MIMO channel model of the proposed system and the performances are verified. The fabricated circular polarization patch antennas with the proposed feed network are measured in the reverberation chamber and 7~10 dB of diversity gain and 80 % increasement of channel capacity are obtained.

  • A high speed data link capability is one of the critical factors in determining the performance of the spaceborne SAR system with high resolution because of the strict requirement for the real-time data transmission of the massive SAR data in a limited time of mission. In this paper, based on the data link model characterized by the spaceborne small SAR system, the high rate multi-channel data link module is designed including link storage, link processor, transmitter, and wide-angle antenna. The design results are presented with the performance analysis on the data link budget as well as the multi-mode data rate in association with the SAR imaging mode of operation from high resolution to the wide swath. The designed data link module can be effectively used for the spaceborne and airborne applications which requires to expand the high speed data link capability.

  • The recent adoption of Bluetooth LE technology in smart phones triggered commercial interest in RSSI-based positioning technology. Estimation error in RSSI measurement due to the antenna pattern, multipath fading, environmental noise has to be considered for designing beacon systems. The paper proposes an analysis method and beacon planning rules for a small and isolated indoor service area, based on probabilistic model of RSSI estimation error. As an practically important guide, the beacons have to be installed at the boundary of the service area to minimize the maximum position error, whereas the beacons have to be evenly distributed in the service space to minimize the average estimation error.

  • The ignition noises from the vehicle are measured and the measurement data are statistically treated for modeling. The low-noise amplifier and band-pass filter are added between the receiver and the three axes antenna for low noise level measurement and the APD and PSD are measured in 800 MHz frequency range. The measured APD curves can be expressed in terms of sensitivity study of each model through 3(class A) or 6(Class B) parameters variation, and these optimal parameter can easily be calculated by using the Composite Approximation Algorithm. The selected APD parameter can be used for making the Data Base EM-environments and also applied to determine the output and sensitivity margin for the transmitter and receiver. 'Digital microwave transmission systems are equipped with equalizer against fading during multipath fading. In this paper, we proposed variable reference tap position equalizer that varies the reference tap according to fading type to archive better performance. We got the perf?mance improvement about 4~5 dB in MP condition and 2~3 dB in NMP condition from simulation results.

  • In this paper, we analyze the channel characteristics of the long distance air-ground wideband common data link and we propose a mathematical method to analyze the effect of narrowband and wideband interference of air-ground channel on the received signal of wideband data link. In this paper, we analyze the reception performance according to the communication distance using the proposed performance analysis method, and found out that the communication distance is limited by the narrowband and wideband interference of ground reflection wave. As a result of the performance analysis of the method of controlling the receiving antenna upward, not only the narrow band but also the wideband interference is effectively reduced, so that the communication distance is increased even in the existing wideband data link not including the equalizer.

  • For an efficient finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) analysis of coaxial-probe feeding structures in radio frequency(RF) and microwave bands, an interrelation between equivalent source modeling techniques is investigated. In existing literature, equivalent source models with delta-gap or magnetic-frill concepts have been developed by many researchers. It is well known that FDTD implementation and computational accuracy of these source models are slightly different. In this paper, the interrelation between FDTD equivalent source models for coaxial feeding structures under the quasi-static approximation(QSA) is presented. As a function of FDTD equivalent source models, time-domain and frequency-domain responses of a coaxial-probe fed conical monopole antenna are calculated numerically. And comparison results of computational accuracy and efficiency are provided.
