WSN is the major component for information transfer in IoT environments. Source Location Privacy (SLP) has attracted attention in WSN environments. Effective SLP can avoid adversaries to backtrack and capture source nodes. This work presents a Two-Level Randomized Sector-based Routing (TLRSR) model to ensure SLP in wireless environments. Sector creation is the initial process, where the nodes in the network are grouped into defined sectors. The first level routing process identifies sector-based route to the destination node, which is performed by Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). The second level performs route extraction, which identifies the actual nodes for transmission. The route extraction is randomized and is performed using Simulated Annealing. This process is distributed between the nodes, hence ensures even charge depletion across the network. Randomized node selection process ensures SLP and also avoids depletion of certain specific nodes, resulting in increased network lifetime. Experiments and comparisons indicate faster route detection and optimal paths by the TLRSR model.

Nowadays, the utilization of multiprocessor environments has been increased due to the increase in time complexity of application programs and decrease in hardware costs. In such architectures during the compilation step, each program is decomposed into the smaller and maybe dependent segments so-called tasks. Precedence constraints, required execution times of the tasks, and communication costs among them are modeled using a directed acyclic graph (DAG) named task-graph. All the tasks in the task-graph must be assigned to a predefined number of processors in such a way that the precedence constraints are preserved, and the program's completion time is minimized, and this is an NP-hard problem from the time-complexity point of view. The results obtained by different approaches are dominated by two major factors; first, which order of tasks should be selected (sequence subproblem), and second, how the selected sequence should be assigned to the processors (assigning subproblem). In this paper, a hybrid proposed approach has been presented, in which two different artificial ant colonies cooperate to solve the multiprocessor task-scheduling problem; one colony to tackle the sequence subproblem, and another to cope with assigning subproblem. The utilization of background knowledge about the problem (different priority measurements of the tasks) has made the proposed approach very robust and efficient. 125 different task-graphs with various shape parameters such as size, communication-to-computation ratio and parallelism have been utilized for a comprehensive evaluation of the proposed approach, and the results show its superiority versus the other conventional methods from the performance point of view.

In this paper, we propose a preference-based shortest path algorithm which is combined with Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and A* heuristic algorithm. In recent years, with the development of ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems), there has been a resurgence of interest in a shortest path search algorithm for use in car navigation systems. Most of the shortest path search algorithms such as Dijkstra and A* aim at finding the distance or time shortest paths. However, the shortest path is not always an optimum path for the drivers who prefer choosing a less short, but more reliable or flexible path. For this reason, we propose a preference-based shortest path search algorithm which uses the properties of the links of the map. The preferences of the links are specified by the user of the car navigation system. The proposed algorithm was implemented in C and experiments were performed upon the map that includes 64 nodes with 118 links. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is suitable to find preference-based shortest paths as well as distance shortest paths.

In mobile communication systems, location management deals with the location determination of users in a network. One of the strategies used in location management is to partition the network into location areas. Each location area consists of a group of cells. The goal of location management is to partition the network into a number of location areas such that the total paging cost and handoff (or update) cost is a minimum. Finding the optimal number of location areas and the corresponding configuration of the partitioned network is a difficult combinatorial optimization problem. This cell grouping problem is to find a compromise between the location update and paging operations such that the cost of mobile terminal location tracking is a minimum in location area wireless network. In fact, this is shown to be an NP-complete problem in an earlier study. In this paper, artificial bee colony (ABC) is developed and proposed to obtain the best/optimal group of cells for location area planning for location management system. The performance of the artificial bee colony (ABC) is better than or similar to those of other population-based algorithms with the advantage of employing fewer control parameters. The important control parameter of ABC is only 'Limit' which is the number of trials after which a food source is assumed to be abandoned. Simulation results for 16, 36, and 64 cell grouping problems in wireless network show that the performance of our ABC is better than those alternatives such as ant colony optimization (ACO) and particle swarm optimization (PSO).

In recent years, human damage and loss of money due to various disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, forest fires, landslides, and wars are steadily occurring, and a lot of manpower and funds are required to prevent and recover them. In this paper, we designed and developed a disaster drone system based on artificial intelligence in order to monitor these various disaster situations in advance and to quickly recognize and respond to disaster occurrence. In this study, multiple disaster drones are used in areas where it is difficult for humans to monitor, and each drone performs an efficient search with an optimal path by applying a deep learning-based optimal path algorithm. In addition, in order to solve the problem of insufficient battery capacity, which is a fundamental problem of drones, the optimal route of each drone is determined using Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) technology. In order to implement the proposed system, it was applied to a forest fire situation among various disaster situations, and a forest fire map was created based on the transmitted data, and a forest fire map was visually shown to the fire fighters dispatched by a drone equipped with a beam projector. In the proposed system, multiple drones can detect a disaster situation in a short time by simultaneously performing optimal path search and object recognition. Based on this research, it can be used to build disaster drone infrastructure, search for victims (sea, mountain, jungle), self-extinguishing fire using drones, and security drones.

As cities face increasing problems such as aging, environmental pollution and growth limits, we have been trying to incorporate sustainability into urban planning and related policies. However, it is very difficult to generate a 'sustainable spatial plans' because there are trade-offs among environmental, society, and economic values. This is a kind of non-linear problem, and has limitations to be solved by existing qualitative expert knowledge. Many researches from abroad have used the meta heuristic optimization algorithms such as Genetic Algorithms(GAs), Simulated Annealing(SA), Ant Colony Optimization(ACO) and so on to synthesize competing values in spaces. GAs is the most frequently applied theory and have been known to produce 'good-enough plans' in a reasonable time. Therefore we collected the research on 'spatial optimization model based GAs' and analyzed in terms of 'study area', 'optimization objective', 'fitness function', and 'effectiveness/efficiency'. We expect the results of this study can suggest that 'what problems the spatial optimization model can be applied to' and 'linkage possibility with existing planning methodology'.

This paper suggests a Path-planning algorithm for mobile agents. While there are a lot of studies on the path-planning for mobile agents, mathematical modeling of complex environment which constrained by spatio-temporally is very difficult and it is impossible to obtain the optimal solutions. In this paper, an optimal path-planning algorithm based on the graphic technique is presented. The working environment is divided into two areas, the one is free movable area and the other is not permissible area in which there exist obstacles and spatio-temporally constrained, and an optimal solution is obtained by using a new algorithm which is based on the well known ACO algorithm.
In feature selection, the selective evaluation scheme for Ant Colony Optimization(ACO) has recently been proposed, which reduces computational load by excluding unnecessary or less promising candidate solutions from the actual evaluation. Its superiority was supported by experimental results. However the experiment seems to be not statistically sufficient since it used only one dataset. The aim of this paper is to analyze convergence characteristics of the selective evaluation scheme and to make the conclusion more convincing. We chose three datasets related to handwriting, medical, and speech domains from UCI repository whose feature set size ranges from 256 to 617. For each of them, we executed 12 independent runs in order to obtain statistically stable data. Each run was given 72 hours to observe the long-time convergence. Based on analysis of experimental data, we describe a reason for the superiority and where the scheme can be applied.

Routing schemes that service applications with various delay times, maintaining the long network life time are required in wireless sensor & actor networks. However, it is known that network lifetime and hop count of trees used in routing methods have the tradeoff between them. In this paper, we propose a Pareto Ant Colony Optimization algorithm to find the Pareto tree set such that it optimizes these both tradeoff objectives. As it enables applications which have different delay times to select appropriate routing trees, not only satisfies the requirements of various multiple applications but also guarantees long network lifetime. We show that the Pareto tree set found by proposed algorithm consists of trees that are closer to the Pareto optimal points in terms of hop count and network lifetime than minimum spanning tree which is a representative routing tree.

Open space planners and designers should consider scientific and quantified functions of trees when they have to locate where to plant the tree. However, until now, most planners and designers could not consider them because of lack of tool for considering scientific and quantitative tree functions. This study introduces a tree location supporting tool which focuses on the multi-objective including scientific function using ACO (Ant colony optimization). We choose shading effect (scientific function), shielding, and openness as objectives for test application. The results show that when the user give a high weight to a particular objective, they can obtain the optimal results with high value of that objective. When we allocate higher weight for the shading effect, the tree plans provide larger shadow value. Even when compared with current tree plan, the study result has a larger shading effect plan. This result will reduce incident radiation to the ground and make thermal friendly open space in the summer. If planners and designers utilize this tool and control the objectives, they would get diverse optimal tree plans and it will allow them to make use of the many environmental benefits from trees.
