ON THE SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS AND STABILITY OF IMPLANT TREATED WITH ANODIZING OXIDATION (양극산화 처리한 임플랜트의 표면 특성 및 골유착 안정성에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose : This experiment examined the effects of anodization on commercially pure titanium implant fixtures. Material & methods : The implant fixtures were anodized at three different voltage levels, producing three different levels of oxidation on the surface of the fixure. Implant were divided into four groups according to the level of oxidation. Group 1 consist of the control group of machined surface implants, Group 2 implants were treated by anodizing to 100 voltage, Group 3 implants were treated by anodizing oxidation to 200 voltage Group 4 implants were treated by anodizing oxidation to 350 voltage. Surface morphology was observed by Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and the surface roughness was measured using NanoScan $E-1000^{\circledR}$. Implantation of the fixtures were performed using New Zealand white rabbits. $Periotest^{\circledR}$ value(PTV) resonance frequency analysis(RFA), and removal torque were measured in 0, 2, 4, 8, 12 weeks after implantation. Results : The results of the study were as follows: 1. Values for the measured surface roughness indicate statistically significant differences in Ra, Rq, and Rt values among group 1, 2, 3, and 4 at the top portion of the thread,(p<0.05) while values at the base of the threads indicated no significant difference in these values. 2. A direct correlation between the firming voltage, and surface roughness and irregularities were observed using scanning electron microscope. 3. No statistically significant differences were found between test groups regarding $Periotest^{\circledR}$ values. 4. Analysis of the data produced by RFA, significant differences were found between group 1 and group 4 at 12 weeks after implantation.(p<0.05) Conclusions : In conclusion, no significant differences could be found among test groups up to a certain level of forming voltage threshold, beyond this firming voltage threshold, statistically significant differences occurred as the surface area of the oxide layer increased with the increase in surface porosity, resulting in enhanced bone response and osseointegration.

Evaluation of Corrosion and Cavitation Erosion Resistance of Sealed Aluminum Alloy after Anodizing Treatment in Seawater (양극산화 후 실링처리된 알루미늄 합금의 해수 내 내식성과 캐비테이션 침식 저항성 평가)

  • Various sealing techniques were applied to the anodized 5083 aluminum alloy for marine environment to reduce corrosion and cavitation erosion damage. Electrochemical experiments and cavitation erosion tests were conducted to evaluate the corrosion resistance and cavitation resistance of the anodic oxide film treated with sealing in natural seawater solution. Then, damaged surface morphology was analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and 3D microscope. As the results of the electrochemical experiments, it was observed that the surface damage of all the experimental conditions in the anodic polarization experiment was locally grown by the combination of crack and corrosion damage. In the Tafel analysis, the corrosion resistance of all sealing treatment conditions was improved compared to the anodizing. On the other hand, cavitation erosion tests showed that the anodizing and all the sealing treatment conditions generated local pit damage by cavitation erosion attack and grew to crater damage in the observation of damaged surface by SEM. Also, the weight loss and the surface damage depth measured with the experiment time presented that most of the sealing treatment conditions showed better cavitation erosion resistance than the anodizing, and they had an incubation period at the beginning of the experiment.

Structural and Electrical Properties of Nanotube as Various Second Anodizing Time for Biosensor (바이오 센서로의 응용을 위한 2차 양극산화 시간에 따른 나노튜브의 구조적, 전기적 특성)

  • In this study, we fabricated anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane by two step anodizing process for pH detection. The structural properties were observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). Electrochemical measurements of the pH sensor have been performed in capacitance-voltage (C-V) and drift rates. The characterization of AAO membrane exhibited high sensitivity (99.1 mV/pH) at second anodizing time of 4 min.

  • LED BLU(Back Light Unit), based on MCPCB(Metal Core Printed Circuit Board) with anodizing oxide dielectric layer and improved thermal dissipation property, are presented. Reflecting cups were also formed on the surface of the MCPCB such that optical coupling between neighboring chips were minimized for improving the photon extraction efficiency. LED chips were directly attached on the MCPCB by using the COB (Chip On Board) scheme.

  • AC anodizing on aluminum foil was investigated by the variation of AC voltage and frequency. The voltage and frequency were applied in the range of approximately 40~200V, 0~400Hz. The porous alumina film was formed and the growth rate of oxide film is increased with frequency. The structural property was analyzed by SEM and XRD. SEM results show the approximate relation between frequency, voltage and growth rate. The AC voltage effect on the structural modulation of porous alumina indicates that AC anodizing is useful for the application to nanocapacitor material.

Anodizing science of valve metals

  • This presentation introduces anodizing science of typical valve metals of Al, Mg and Ti, based on the ionic transport through the andic oxide films in various electrolyte compositions. Depending on the electrolyte composition, metal ions and anions can migrate through the andic oxide film without its dielectric breakdown when point defects are present within the anodic oxide films under high applied electric field. On the other hand, if anodic oxide films are broken by local joule heating due to ionic migration, metal ions and anions can migrate through the broken sites and meet together to form new anodic films, known as plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) treatment. In this presentation, basics of conventional anodizing and PEO methods are introduced in detail, based on the ionic migration and movement mechanism through anodic oxide films by point defects and by local dielectric breakdown of anodic oxide films.

  • 경질 Anodizing에 비해 플라즈마 전해산화(Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation, PEO)에 의해 생성된 알루미늄 피막의 내식성이 우수하다고 알려져 있다. PEO는 기존의 Anodizing 피막에 비해 내구성이 우수한 피막이기 때문에 일부 산업 분야에서 기존의 피막보다 PEO 피막을 선호하고 있다. 플라즈마 전해산화는 400V 이상 고전압하에서 Anode에 생성되는 스파크에 의한 산화반응을 이용하여 금속 표면에 산화 피막을 생성하는 공정이다. 전처리 과정을 거칠 필요가 없기 때문에 친환경적이며, 공정 과정도 복잡하지 않다. PEO의 여러 가지 특성(내전압, 플라즈마 부식성, 화학 부식성, 실시간 파티클)을 한국표준과학연구원이 보유한 장비들을 사용하여 분석하여, 기존의 Anodizing 피막과 비교 평가하였다. 이 실험 결과를 바탕으로 기존의 피막보다 우수한 특성을 가진 PEO 피막을 개발 진행 중에 있다.

  • This study evaluates the strength of surface treatment parts using the hard anodizing method to the aluminum alloy brake disks. In order to achieve weight reduction of vehicles, Eco-friendly cars parts of the high-quality and competitive price is to equip. Especially while pursuing parts of weight reduction, it has to maintain the strength of the surface of the brake by nature. To enhance surface strength of aluminum alloy, we use hard anodizing technology in the surface treatment. This study is resulted of 3 times greater the hardness value of the hard anodized specimen than the aluminum alloy specimen for the lightweight parts of EV brake disk

  • Anodizing film was prepared by anodic oxidation of pure aluminum(purity > 99.50) using DC power supply for constant current mode in an electrolytic solution of surface of sulfuric acid. Effects of pre-treatment process such as chemical polishing, acid cleaning, alkali etching before anodic oxidation, were studied to microstructures and surface morphologies. A roughness on surface of anodizing film had to be decreased for amorphous phase by anodic oxidation. A roughness on surface of anodizing film decrease as annealing temperature increased in chemical polishing.

Effect of Machining on Hard Anodizing Surface of Aluminum (절삭가공이 알루미늄 경질 아노다이징 피막에 미치는 영향)

  • The Al3003 aluminum plate was cut by grinding, milling, sawing, and shearing, and the hard-anodizing surface of the material was investigated. Large burrs were formed during grinding and milling. The brittle anodized film split and migrated along the deformed aluminum surface. During shearing, the hard-anodized film on the blade entry surface cracks and slides along the deforming aluminum. The cutting heat increased the ductility of the aluminum and further promoted burr formation. The oil-based coolant suppressed burrs and prevented chips from sticking to the endmill. It is better to avoid the high cutting speed and slow material feed rate conditions, which increase the cutting temperature and burr in the band saw.
