Magnetorheological (MR) fluid is one of the field-responsive fluids that is of interest to many researchers due to its high yield stress value, which depends on the magnetic field strength. Similar to electrorheological (ER) fluid, the combination of working modes is one of the techniques to increase the performance of the fluids with limited focus on MR fluids. In this paper, a novel MR testing cell incorporated with valve, shear and squeeze operational modes is designed and constructed in order to investigate the behaviour of MR fluid in combined mode. The magnetic field distribution in the design concept was analyzed using finite element method in order to verify the effective areas of each mode have the acceptable range of flux density. The annular gap of valve and shear were fixed at 1 mm, while the squeeze gap between the parallel circular surfaces was varied up to 20 mm. Three different coil configurations, which were made up from 23 SWG copper wires were set up in the MR cell. The simulation results indicated that the magnetic field distributed in the squeeze gap was the highest among the other gaps with all coils were subjected to a constant applied current of 1 A. Moreover, the magnetic flux densities in all gaps were in a good range of magnitude based on the simulations that validated the proposed design concept. Hence, the 3D model of the MR testing cell was designed using Solidworks for manufacturing processes.

An experimental study was performed for two types of co-axial cylindrical shell structures in order to establish the relationship between in-air dynamic characteristics and in-water ones and to observe hydrodynamic mass effects on their mode shapes when submerged. The outer cylinders are prepared with two kinds to get more insights on the fluid-structure interaction phenomena: one is flexible, which means that the outer cylinder has almost same stiffness as the inner one, and the other is a rigid one whose stiffness is more than ten times of the inner one's(it might be regarded as the scaled-down model of the reactor internals). The finite element. analyses were also implemented to support the experimental results. The results show that the natural frequencies of a co-axial cylindrical shell structure in water are remarkably lower than those in air due to the fluid mass effects. In case of the flexible-to-flexible cylinders, there exist in-phase and out-of-phase mode shapes and they are affected by the annular gap between the. co-axial cylinders. For the in-phase mode the in-water natural frequency decreases exponentially as the gap increases, while it slightly increases in case of the out-of-phase mode due to the squeezing effect of the gap fluid. In the flexible-to-rigid case, the normalized natural frequency(in-water frequency/in-air one) of the inner cylinder(core barrel model) ranges between in-phase and out-of-phase mode frequencies of the flexible-to-flexible co-axial cylindrical structure having identical dimensions. Also the normalized natural frequency of the inner cylinder of the flexible-to-rigid one moves from near of the in-phase mode frequency into the out-of-phase mode value of the flexible-to-flexible case as circumferential mode number(n) increases.

The present paper proposes a new correlation for the flow boiling heat transfer coefficients in the low flow rate condition (Re(sub)LF$\leq$200) within horizontal rectangular channels with small gaps (heights). The gap between the upper and the lower plates of each channel ranges from 0.4 to 2mm while the channel width being fixed to 20mm. Refrigerant 113 was used as the test fluid. The mass flux ranges from 50 to 200kg/㎡s and the channel walls were uniformly heated with the heat flux range of 3-15kW/㎡. The quality range covers from 0.19 to 0.76 and the flow pattern is considered to be annular. The measured heat transfer coefficients increase with the mass flux and the local quality; however the effect of the heat flux appears to be minor. At the low mass flux condition, which is more likely with the smaller gap size, the heat transfer is primarily controlled by the liquid film thickness. The proposed F factor for the heat transfer coefficient in the range of Re(sub)LF$\leq$200 well represents the experimental data within the deviation of $\pm$20%. The Kandlikars flow boiling correlation covers the higher flow-rate range(Re(sub)LF>200) within the deviation of $\pm$20%.

This work dealt with the evaluation of galvanic corrosion rate in a corrosion cell having annular gap of 0.5 mm between carbon steel 1018 and alloy 600 as a function of temperature and boron concentration. Temperature and boron concentration were ranged from 110 to 300 $^{\circ}C$ and 2000~10000 ppm, respectively. After the operating temperature of the corrosion cell where the electrolyte was injected was attained at setting temperature, galvanic coupling was made and at the same time galvanic current was measured. The galvanic corrosion rate decreased with time, which was described by corrosion product such as protective film as well as boric acid deposit formed on the carbon steel with time. From the galvanic current obtained as a function of temperature and boron concentration, it was found that the galvanic corrosion rate decreased with temperaturewhilethe corrosionrate increasedwith boronconcentration. The experimental resultsobtained from galvanic corrosion measurement were explained by adhesive property of corrosion product such as protective film, boric acid deposit formed on the carbon steel wall and dehydration of boric acid to be slightlysolubleboric acid phase.Moreoverthe galvaniccorrosionrate calculatedusing initialgalvaniccoupling current instead of steady state coupling current was remarked, which could give us relatively closer galvanic corrosion rate to real pressurized water reactor.

So most practical combustor is considered to the swirl flame, it is very important to examinate swirl flame structure and combustion characteristics. Recently, attention has been paid to the flame diagnostic by radical luminous intensity. For swirl flame structure and combustion characteristic, reverse flow boundary, temperature, ion current and radical luminous intensity were measured in the double-coaxial swirl combustor which was used principle of multi-annular combustor. This study had three experimental condition, S-type, C-type, SC-type. S-type and C-type flames were formed recirculation zone, but SC-type flame wasn't formed. C-type flame had two recirculation zone. The position with maximum value of ion current and CH-radical, temperature and OH-radical had similarity distribution almost. Therefore, it is possible that the macro structure of flame was measured by radical luminous intensity in the high intensity of turbulent combustion field which was formed by swirl.
The present paper is concerned with non-isothermal spherical Couette flow of Oldroyd-B fluid in the annular region between two concentric spheres. The inner sphere rotates with a uniform angular velocity while the outer sphere is kept at rest. Moreover, the two spherical boundaries are maintained at fixed temperature values. Hence, the fluid is effect by two heat sources; namely, the viscous heating and the temperature gradient between the two spheres. The viscoelasticity of the fluid is assumed to dominate the inertia such that the latter can be neglected. An approximate analytical solution of the energy and momentum equations is obtained through the expansion of the dynamical fields in power series of Nahme number. The analysis show that, the temperature variation due to the external source appears in the zero order solution and its effect extends to the fluid velocity distribution up to present second order. Viscous heating contributes in the first and second order solutions. In contrast to isothermal case, a first order axial velocity and a second order stream function fields has been appeared. Moreover, at higher orders the temperature distribution depends on the gap width between the two spheres. Finally, there exist a thermal distribution of positive and negative values depend on their positions in the domain region between the two spheres.

EM (ElectroMagnetic) pump is used for the purpose of transporting liquid sodium coolant with electrical conductivity in the LMR(Liquid Metal Reactor). (In the present study, pilot EM pump has been designed by using of equivalent circuit method which is commonly employed to analyze linear induction machines for the test of removal of residual heat. The length and diameter of the pump have fixed values of 840 mm and 101.6 mm each by taking account of geometrical size of circulation loop for the installation of EM pump. Flowrate versus developing pressure is related from Laithwaite's standard design formula and the characteristic analyses of developing force and efficiency are carried out according to change of input frequency. From the characteristic curve, input frequency of 13 Hz is determined as the design frequency. On the other hand, The annular air gap size of 6.05 mm is selected not to bring about too much hydraulic loss. Resultantly design analysis makes pump have the electrical input of 604 VA and the hydrodynamical capacity of 1.3 bars and 40 l/min.

In the present study, the effect of blade rotation on blade heat transfer is investigated by comparing with the heat transfer results for the stationary blade. The experiments are conducted in a low speed annular cascade with a single stage turbine and the turbine stage is composed of sixteen guide vanes and blades. The chord length and the height of the tested blade are 150 mm and about 125 mm, respectively. The blade has a flat tip and the mean tip clearance is 2.5% of the blade chord. A naphthalene sublimation method is used to measure detailed mass transfer coefficient on the blade. For the experiments, the inlet Reynolds number is $Re_c=1.5{\times}10^5$, which results in the blade rotation speed of 255.8 rpm. Blade rotation induces a relative motion between the blade and the shroud as well as a periodic variation of incoming flow. Therefore, different heat/mass transfer patterns are observed on the rotating blade, especially near the tip and on the tip. The relative motion reduces the tip leakage flow through the tip gap, which results in the reduction of the tip heat transfer. However, the effect of the tip leakage flow on the blade surface is increased because the tip leakage vortex is formed closer to the surface than the stationary case. The overall heat/mass transfer on the shroud is not affected much by the blade rotation.
An experimental study was performed to evaluate the effects of surface coating and an enhanced insulation structure on the downward facing boiling process and the critical heat flux on the outer surface of a hemispherical vessel. Steady-state boiling tests were conducted in the Subscale Boundary Layer Boiling (SBLB) facility using an enhanced vessel/insulation design for the cases with and without vessel coatings. Based on the boiling data, CHF correlations were obtained for both plain and coated vessels. It was found that the nucleate boiling rates and the local CHF limits for the case with micro-porous layer coating were consistently higher than those values for a plain vessel at the same angular location. The enhancement in the local CHF limits and nucleate boiling rates was mainly due to the micro-porous layer coating that increased the local liquid supply rate toward the vaporization sites on the vessel surface. For the case with thermal insulation, the local CHF limit tended to increase from the bottom center at first, then decrease toward the minimum gap location, and finally increase toward the equator. This non-monotonic behavior, which differed significantly from the case without thermal insulation, was evidently due to the local variation of the two-phase motions in the annular channel between the test vessel and the insulation structure.

As a severe accident mitigation strategy in a nuclear power plant, ERVC(External Reactor Vessel Cooling) has been proposed. Under ERVC conditions, where a molten corium is relocated in a reactor vessel lower head, a natural circulation two-phase flow is driven in the annular gap between the reactor vessel wall and its insulation. This flow should be sufficient to remove the decay heat of the molten corium and maintain the integrity of the reactor vessel. Preliminary experimental study was performed to estimate the natural circulation two-phase flow. The experimental facility which is one dimensional, the half height, and the 1/238 channel area of APR1400, was prepared and the experiments were carried out to estimate the natural circulation two-phase flow with varying the parameters of the coolant inlet area, the heat rate, and the coolant inlet subcooling. In results, the periodic circulation flow was observed and the characteristics were varied from the experimental parameters. The frequency of the natural circulation flow rate increased as the wall heat flux increased.
