  • This study was investigated to select superior population and clones of Salix gracilistyla for promoting woody biomass resources through creating of short rotation coppices (SRC). Plant materials were collected from seven different population groups of S. gracilistyla and planted at two different nursery sites in Chuncheon and Yongin. Height and root collar diameter showed statistically significant differeces among population, nursery, and annual growth for three years (p<0.01). Aboveground biomass was harvested to investigate dry weight after 3 years from planting, the Youngwol population showed the highest yield as $4.8kg\;DW\;plant^{-1}$ in Chuncheon nursery which was more than double yield compared to the other nursery planted plants. However, Hongcheon and Wonju populations as $3.3kg\;plant^{-1}$, showed the best yield in Yongin nursery. In addition, there was a significant difference between collected populations and nurseries. But there was statistically significant different interaction between population (Pop) and nursery (Nur) (F value = 3.51, p<0.01). Therefore, the superior populations selected by this experiment could be cultivated as an excellent variety for woody biomass resources through the clonal test.

  • This study was conducted to construct a empirical yield table for Pinus densiflora in real forest. Since existing normal yield tables have been derived by studying and analyzing communities in ideal environment for tree growth, those tables provide more over-estimated values than ones from real forest. Because of this, there are some difficulties to apply the tables to empirical forest except for normal forest. In this study, therefore, we estimated stand growth for real forest on P. densiflora as the representative species of conifers. We used 1,957 sample plot data of P. densiflora in central Korea from National Forest Inventory (NFI) system, and analyzed through estimation, recovery and prediction in order by using Weibull function as a diameter distribution model. Weilbull and Schumacher models were applied for estimating mean DBH and mean basel area and it was found that the site index for P. densiflora in central Korea ranges from 8 to 14 at reference age 30. According to site 12 in the stand yield table, the Mean Annual Increment (MAI) of P. densiflora was $4.42m^3/ha$ at 30 years of age. Compared to existing volume table constructed before, it is showed that MAI of this study were lower. According to the paired t-test that is conducted with the gap of volume values between normal forest and real forest by site index and age, the P-value was less than 0.001 which is recognized to have a statistically significant difference. Based on the results in this study, it is considered to be helpful for practical management and management policy on P. densiflora in central Korea.

  • The Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) - Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) system was applied to investigate the influence of major point sources located in Chungcheongnam-do (CN) on surface $PM_{2.5}$ (Particulate Matter of which diameter is $2.5{\mu}m$ or less) concentrations in its surrounding areas. Uncertainties associated with contribution estimations were examined through cross-comparison of modeling results using various combinations of model inputs and setups; two meteorological datasets developed with WRF for 2010 and 2014, and two domestic emission inventories for 2010 and 2013 were used to estimate contributions of major point sources in CN. The results show that contributions of major point sources in CN to annual $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations over Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and CN ranged $0.51{\sim}1.63{\mu}g/m^3$, $0.71{\sim}1.62{\mu}g/m^3$, $0.63{\sim}1.66{\mu}g/m^3$, and $1.04{\sim}1.86{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively, depending on meteorology and emission inventory choice. It indicates that the contributions over the surrounding areas can be affected by model inputs significantly. Nitrate was the most dominant $PM_{2.5}$ component that was increased by major point sources in CN followed by sulfate, ammonium, and others. Based on the model simulations, it was estimated that primary $PM_{2.5}$ $(PPM)-to-PM_{2.5}$ conversion rates were 41.3~50.7 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 12.4~18.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi, respectively. In addition, spatial gradients of PPM contributions show very steep trends. $NO_X$-to-nitrate conversion rates were 7.61~12.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 3.94~11.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for the sub-regions in the SMA. $SO_2$-to-sulfate conversion rates were 4.04~5.28 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 3.73~4.43 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for the SMA, respectively.

  • The objectives of this study are to explain a supply plan of domestic softwood log by long-term prospect of MDF production to stably promote industry of MDF. For it, we developed the long supply function as Ordinary Least Squares Method. Between 2005 and 2050, it was estimated that quantity of domestic production of MDF increased from 1,653 thousand $m^3$ to 2,041 thousand $m^3$. In 2050, quantities of domestic softwood log used by raw materials to product MDF of 2,041 thousand $m^3$ were estimated to be used about 1,355 thousand $m^3$. Exampling Pinus rigida used presently by raw materials to product MDF, cutting area of it is estimated to be 10,828 ha per year. And larch is cutted about 9,160 ha per year. This study estimated annual softwood log cutting amount and total afforestation area at 2050 year by 3 scenarios which are 35%, 45% and 55% about use of domestic softwood log for MDF production. If we do a criterion of cutting area, we advantage to plant larch. But the species of trees are use and growth property. We think that the afforestation policy must be performed on the base of those to supply raw materials of MDF. Although government plans hardwood afforestation policy after cutting Pinus rigida, it needs to support and manage certainly afforestation area of softwoods to need to supply raw materials of MDF to stably promote industry of MDF.

  • This study was conducted to Investigate the effects of physico-chemical soil properties on the growth and yield of ginseng. 1 In the field survey, the yields of 6 year old ginseng were 2.46 Kg/3.3$m^2$, 2.13 Kg/3.3$m^2$, 1.44 Kg/3.3 $m^2$ in clay loam, loam and sandy loam soils, respectively 2. The missing plant rate for il year old ginseng were 33.6% and 51.6% in clay loam and sandy loam soils, respectively : the stem length and stem diameter of ginseng plants in sandy loam soil were smaller than those in clay loam soil. 3. Soil aggregation and porosity we're slightly higher in 6 year old ginseng fields than in 2 year ones. 4. Inorganic-N increased in 2 year and 3 year old ginseng fields reaching up to 100-120ppm, however it 1 decreased to 75 ppm, 34 ppm and 25 ppm in 4, 5 and 6 year old ginseng fields, respectively, It varied 1 more greatly in sandy loam soil than in clay loam. 5. The $P_2O_5$, K, Ca, and Mg contents differed little with plant age. Sandy loam had high N and $P_2O_5$ contents but low cation contents. 6. The yield of 6 year old ginseng fields were significantly correlated with clay contents and porosity. The missing Plant rate of 6 year old ginseng had a positive correlations with sand. and N contents.

  • Single crystals of LiNbO3 have found extensive application in electro-optic and nonlinear optic devices. However, laser-induced refartive index inhomogeneities, which have been labeled opical damage impose limits on device optical damage in LiNbO3 is imporved if more than 4.5 rml% MgO is added to the melt The laser damage thrueshold increased as much as 100 times better then that of undoped crystals. The MgO doped cystal has thus been urterlsiv81y studied since then. In the study, Mgo:LiNbOs(MLA) single crystals dopsd with 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 mol% MgO have been grown by the czocrualski technique. The metls were prepared in the platinum crluible and 15∼20mm diameter crystals were grown with a length of 20∼30mm in a resitance heater. The growth rate was 2.5mm/hr, the rotation speed 15rpn. Before sawing MLN single crystals were annealed for 24 hours under atmosphere at a temperature of 1080℃. After sawing, we have found an annual ring cross section of MNA crystals only in the direction of perpendicilar to the c-axis. Nonuniform dispusion of MgO was pointed out that the cuties of the state of oxide were strongly affected by oxygen partial pressure in.

  • Sexual maturation of the bluespotted mud hopper, Boleophthalmus Pectinirostris(Linnaeus) was investigated histologically on the gonadal development, and studied by gonadosomatic index(GSI), egg diameter composition. Samples were collected in the intertidal zone of Wolyon-ri, Hoihyon-myon, Okku-gun, Chollabuk-do, Korea, from April to October in 1988 and from June to August in 1989. The ovary is a pair of sac-shaped organ. The testis is a pair of tubule-shaped organ and it is connected to the seminal vesicle which is located at the posterior end of the testis. In male and female, GSI began to increase from late May when the water temperature began to increase and reached the maximum value in June and July, respectively. It began to decrease from August, the highest water temperature season. Thereafter, maintained relatively low values until October. The annual reproductive cycle of this species could be classified into four sucessive developmental stages: growing stage$(April{\~}May)$, mature stage$(June{\~}early\;July)$, ripe and spent stage(late lune-early August), degenerative and resting stage$(late\;August{\~}March:\;the wintering\;period)$. According to the frequency distributions of egg diameters in the spawning season, Boleophthalmus Pectinirostris was species to spawn twice or more in the spawning season.

  • Since 2006, new national forest inventory in Korea has been restructured to assess current status and and monitor the changes in forest resources based on permanent sample plots. The objective of estimate this study is to assess changes in forest resources such as land use/cover categories and forest stand variables. For this study, permanent plot data were collected between 2006-2008 and 2011-2013 in Chungcheongbuk-do, respectively. In order to produce land use/cover change matrix which plays an important role as an activity data for estimating GreenHouse Gas inventory, permanent plots were classified into six land use/cover categories. Additionally, matrixes for assessing the changes in age class and dominant tree species can provide more detailed information. For forest stand variables(tree density, basal area, growing stock, mean diameter at breath height, and mean height), their growth and change were assessed. The periodic annual growth ratios for tree density and basal area were slightly declined whereas that of growing stock was estimated to be about 3.7%. The uncertainty of changes in forest stand variables is less than 5%, except for tree density (RSE: 58%). The variation of tree density is relatively high compared to the other variables.

  • A sewage was treated using a vertical flow zeolite-filled reed bed. The sewage from the student dormitory of Changwon National University was fed into the reed bed for 10 minutes every 6 hours at the hydraulic load of $314L/m^3{\cdot}$day. The filtering height of the reed bed was 100 em and the zeolite mixture was filled in the reed bed. The mixture consisted of the same volume of two types of zeolite: 0.5$\sim$1 mm and 1$\sim$3 mm in diameter. Annual average removal efficiency was 88 89.9%, $COD_{Cr}$ 86.1 %, $COD_{Mn}$ 81.2%, T-N 34.0%, $NH_4^+$-N 97.3% and T-P 34.6%. T-N of effluent was mostly $NO_3^-$-N and the concentration of $NO_2^-$-N in effluent was lower than 0.1 mg/L. All removal efficiencies did not show a remarkable seasonal change. The ranking of phosphorous fractions fixed to the zeolite in column test was Ca-P > Fe-P > reductant soluble Fe-P > occluded P > saloid P > AI-P at all depths of the filter. All phosphorous fractions except for AI-P reduced at deeper filter layer, while their content ratios increased at deeper filter layer. Organic matter content was the highest at the highest layer (0$\sim$5 cm from the top of the filter) and only small differences were observed at the deeper filter layer than 5 em from the top. Organic matter content increased at all depths of the filter with the operating time.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the site and growth characteristics of Acer pictum var. mono growing in the deciduous stands at Mt. Joongwang area located in Pyungchanggun, Kangwon-do. A. pictum var. mono was mainly distributed at the rather steep slope and aspect facing from northeast to northwest, and altitudes ranging from 1,000 to 1,200m. It grew at relatively deep a soil layer with high moisture and nutrients. Major competing species in the upper stories were Betula costata, Acer mandshuricum, Quercus mongolica, Cornus controversa, and herb plants such as Meehania urtidfolia, Isodon excisus, Astilbe chinensis var. davidii, Dryopteris crassirhizoma and Ainsliaea acerifolia in the floor. The height growth was 0.25m in early time, decreased gradually and sustained growth of lower than 10cm. The diameter growth of A. pictum was under 1mm in early time, but increased to 0.3mm/yr and showed continuous growth of 2mm/yr recently. Annual volume growth showed rapid increased about age 120 and then showed stable growth, so the rotation period of A. pictum is expected more than 200 years without decay of heartwood.
