The output of the encoder is a digital pulse, which is also easy to be connected to a digital controller. There are various angular velocity detecting methods of M, T, and M/T. Each of them has its own properties. There is a common limitation that the angular velocity detection period is strongly dependent on the destination velocity magnitude in case of ultimate low range. They have ultimately long detection period or cannot even detect angular velocity at near zero velocity. This paper proposes a zero velocity detectable sensor algorithm with the dual encoder system. The sensor algorithm is able to keep detection period moderately at near zero velocity and even detect zero velocity within nominal period. It is useful for detecting velocity in case of changing rotational direction at which there occurs zero velocity. In this paper, various experimental results are shown for the algorithm validity.
In this paper, we propose a new fault diagnosis monitoring system using gyro sensor-based angular velocity calculation for blades of the wind turbine system. First, the proposed system generates the angular velocity dataset for the rotation speed of the normal blade. Using the dataset, we estimate and evaluate the state of blades for the wind turbine by comparing the current state with the pre-calculated normal state. In the experimental results, the angular velocity of the normal state was higher than $360^{\circ}/s$ while that of the damaged blades was lower than $360^{\circ}/s$ and the standard deviation of the angular velocity was significantly increased.
This paper describes a simple vector control scheme for the wound rotor type induction motors(WRIM) without the additional speed sensor in order to remove the external resistor bank which is usually adapted for the WRIM speed control. The motor angular speed is obtained indirectly from the slip angular speed is obtained indirectly from the slip angular speed and the slip angular speed is estimated by detecting the rotor currents only. Because the motor parameters are not included in the estimation algorithm, the proposed algorithm is free from the variation of the motor parameters and the robust sensorless vector control can be achieved. The performance of the proposed scheme is verified through the digital simulation.

In this paper, we propose a triple nested PID control scheme for stable hovering of a quadrotor and propose a complementary filter based sensor fusion technique to improve the performance of attitude, altitude and velocity measurement. The triple nested controller has a structure in which a double nested attitude controller that has the angular velocity PD controller in inner loop and the angular PI controller in outer loop, is nested in a velocity control loop to enable stable hovering even in the case of disturbance. We also propose a sensor fusion technique by applying a complementary filter in order to reduce the noise and drift error included in the acceleration and gyro sensor and to measure the velocity by fusing image, gyro, and acceleration sensor. In order to verity the performance, we applied the proposed control and measurement scheme to hovering control of quadrotor.

This paper focuses on the calculation of the missile angular velocity under the reduced sensor condition and its verification using the Flight Motion Simulator(FMS). The missile angular velocity is usually measured by the body gyroscopes, but we assume that the inertial sensors on the missile body are in the absence of pitch and yaw gyroscopes. Under this reduced sensor condition, this paper shows the missile angular velocity can be calculated by using the gimbal seeker gyroscope, the roll body gyroscope, the gimbal angle and its rate. The FMS experiment was carried out to verify the proposed algorithm.
Studies were performed on an ARS using SDINS's RLG and the geomatic sensor. To develop the ARS, experiments were performed to determine the characteristics of the RLG and geomatic sensor. Based on the results, to reduce the angular position errors of the RLG, which accumulate from the angular velocity data, an algorithm was studied that uses the Extended Kalman filter (EKF) to compensate the RLG data and geomatic sensor data. To verify the performance of the developed algorithm for reducing the cumulative angular errors, experiments that included the developed EKF were performed. Through these, it was shown that a drastic reduction in the angular errors of the RLG were achieved.
Generally, T.G(Tacho-generator, Tachometer) sensor is used widely for sensing the angular velocity in rotary machine. By limitation of T.G sensor's structure, the sensed angular velocity include a periodic noise, and the noise is called "ripple" as an electrical term. To reduce the effecting of the ripple, many kinds of filters are designed and installed, but there is necessary a trade off between response time and adapted frequency band. In this paper, we propose a generalized observer to estimate an angular velocity from the output signal of T.G sensor. The generalized observer is proposed firstly for continue systems, and it is applied to DC servo motor with T.G sensor. For simulation, we measure T.G signals at 60, 400, 570 rpm respectively, and analysis those to obtain the resonance frequency of ripple by FFT method. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, we compare the results with those of a RC low frequency band filter.
Ryu et al. proposed a multiple target angle-tracking algorithm with efficient equation for angular innovation, and Ryu's algorithm has good feature that it has no data association problem. Ryu's algorithm is only applicable to linear sensor array, because its efficient equation for angular innovation is derived in case of using a linear sensor array. In a many fields studying multiple target angle-tracking, the various shapes of sensor array are used. In sonar, a cylindrical sensor array is as much used as a linear sensor array, a example is hull mounted sonar. In this paper, Ryu's algorithm is modified to be applicable to cylindrical sensor array, and the tracking performance of a modified algorithm is verified by various computer simulations.

In this study, joint angles of the lower extremity and tibial acceleration and angular velocity were measured during a snowboard simulator exercises in order to evaluate the skill of snowboarders. Ten unskilled and ten expert snowboarders were recruited for the study. A three-dimensional motion capture system and two inertial sensor modules were used to acquire joint movements, acceleration and angular velocity of the lower extremities during snowboard simulator exercises. Pattern variations were calculated to assess variations in the snowboard simulator motion of unskilled and expert snowboarders. Results showed that expert snowboarders showed greater range of motion in joint angles and greater peak to peak amplitude in acceleration and angular velocity for tibia than unskilled snowboarders. The unskilled snowboarders did not show symmetrical shape(same magnitude but opposite direction) in tibial angular velocity during two edge turns in snowboard simulator exercises. The expert snowboarders showed smaller pattern variations for joint angle of lower extremity, tibial acceleration and tibial angular velocity than unskilled snowboarders. Inertial sensor data and pattern variations during the snowboard simulator exercises could be useful to evaluate the skill of snowboarders.

In this study, joint angles of the lower extremity and inertial sensor data such as accelerations and angular velocities were measured during a ski simulator exercise in order to evaluate the skill of skiers. Twenty experts and twenty unskilled skiers were recruited for the study. All expert skiers held the certificates issued by the Korea Ski Instructors Association. A three-dimensional motion capture system and two inertial sensors were used to acquire joint movements, heel acceleration and heel angular velocity during ski simulator exercises. Pattern variation values were calculated to assess the variations in ski simulator motion of expert and unskilled skiers. Integral ratio of roll angular velocity was calculated to determine the parallel alignment of the two feet. Results showed that ski experts showed greater range of motion of joint angle, peak-to-peak amplitude(PPA) of heel acceleration and PPA of heel angular velocity than unskilled skiers. Ski experts showed smaller pattern variations than unskilled skiers. In addition, the integral ratio of roll angular velocity in ski experts was closer to 1. Inertial sensor data measurements during the ski simulator exercises could be useful to evaluate the skill of the skier.
