We investigated the protection capability of a plate against high speed projectiles demonstrating collision and penetration behaviors by finite element analysis. The element erosion method was used for penetration analysis, which showed that the speed of the projectile was slightly reduced by the collision with the protection plate. Protection capability was measured by the projectile's attitude angle change because the damage of our tanks by projectiles was also dependent on the projectile-tank collision angle. When the length of the protection plate was sufficiently long, the projectile was severely deformed and incapacitated. In the case of a small plate, the projectile was deformed only in the collision region. Thus, projection capability was investigated by the change of attitude angle. The effect of collision angle, velocity, and length of the plate on the rotational and vertical velocities of the projectile was investigated.
Various studies on lighting energy savings are conducted, given that lighting energy consumption accounts 23.5% of building energy consumption. Especially, external type light shelf's efficiency is acknowledged; however, its application is limited in Korea, where high rise building ratio is high, due to high wind pressure. This study delves into natural lighting system to cope with wind pressure, and proposes the punching plate-installed light shelf. This study actually draws lighting energy output, according to whether the punching plate is applied through the test-bed, and verifies the effectiveness of the punching plate-installed light shelf. The conclusion is presented below: First) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in winter solstice showed that the awning area decreased as the opening ratio increased so that the indoor distributed illumination tended to increase, and $-40^{\circ}$ which was advantageous for awning was determined as the proper angle. Second) The light shelf with the punching plate in spring/autumn equinox shows improved lighting according to the angle, and the appropriate angle of light shelf with the punching plate has increased to $15^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ according to the opening ratio in comparison to $5^{\circ}C$ which is the appropriate angle of light shelf with no punching plate due to the reflection area reduced by the reflecting plate with holes. Third) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in summer solstice showed that the lighting performance tended to decrease as the opening ratio increased. 4) The light shelf with the punching plate incurs a 50% energy loss in comparison to the light shelf with no punching plate. However, its effectiveness has been proven in the aspects that it can bring a 50% energy saving in comparison to the case with no installation of light shelf and that it can be designed in response to wind pressure on the high floors.
In this paper, we analyzed the laminated composite sandwich plate structure of truss core with changing values of the designing parameters. As a result, in designing parameters of that, the more height and thickness of the laminated composite plate's core, the more increase of natural frequency. In this type of structure, in the case of applying core of the laminated composite plate and antisymmetric stacking, natural frequency has high value and we calculated the optimum angle-ply making natural frequency maximum. Natural frequency of CFRP is higher than that of GFRP. Both are materials of the laminated composite plate. The mode shapes are various along with the angle-ply of the laminated composite plate.
In this paper, the performance of a wave absorbing system using an inclined punching plate, was investigated. Using the multi-domain boundary element method (BEM), the reflection coefficients of an inclined punching plate were tested with various design parameters, such as inclined angle, porosity, and wave frequencies. To confirm the numerical solutions, the systematic model test was conducted at 2-D tank and square tank. The numerical results were in good agreement with the experimental results within the entire frequency range. It was found that an inclined punching plate had an excellent wave absorbing efficiency, compared to a horizontal one. Also, the optimal range of an inclined angle had an excellent wave absorbing efficiency, compared to a horizontal one the optimal range of the inclined angle is 10°<β<20°. The developed wave absorber was installed at KRISO's square basin, and is working effectively for various model tests.
Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of temporary K-wire fixation in F-plate fixation for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures. Materials and Methods: Two groups (group 1 with F-plate fixation only and group 2 with temporary K-wire fixation and F-plate fixation) of patients were included in this study. The temporary K-wire was removed six weeks after the operation. Each group consisted of 33 cases. Rotational axis angles were measured radiographically and the foot and ankle outcome score (FAOS) was used for clinical assessment. Results: In group 1, the mean rotational axis angle was reduced from $27^{\circ}$ preoperatively to $5.59^{\circ}$ postoperatively and the angle at last follow-up was $9.94^{\circ}$. There was an increase in angle of $4.35^{\circ}$ between postoperative and the last follow-up measurement. In group 2, the mean rotational axis angle was reduced from $21.2^{\circ}$ preoperatively to $4.39^{\circ}$ postoperatively and the angle at last follow-up was $5.91^{\circ}$. There was an increase in angle of $1.52^{\circ}$ between postoperative and the last follow-up measurement. Significant difference in the changes of rotational axis angle was observed between the two groups. However, no significant difference in FAOS was observed between the two groups. Conclusion: Temporary K-wire fixation can prevent reduction loss when treating displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures with an F-plate.

Heat transfer enhancement of three types of brazed plate heat exchangers has been evaluated experimentally. The effects of flow resonance in a plate heat exchanger on the heat transfer rate and pressure drop have been investigated in a wide range of mass flow rates in detail. The problem is of particular interest in the innovative design of a plate heat exchanger by flow resonance. The results obtained indicate that both heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop are increased as mass flow rate is increased, as expected. It is also found that the heat transfer enhancement is increased with an increase in the plate pitch, while the heat transfer is decreased with a decrease in the chevron angle. Pressure drop also increased with an increase in the plate pitch and with a decrease in the chevron angle. Heat transfer enhancement in the plate heat exchangers is maximized by flow resonance and the resonance frequency of the present plate heat exchangers is found to be in the range of $10~15\;Hz$.
The flow characteristics around an elliptic cylinder with axis ratio of AR=2 located near a flat plate were investigated experimentally to study the interaction between the cylinder wake and the turbulent boundary layer. The pressure distributions on the cylinder surface and on the flat plate were measured with varying the angle of attack of the cylinder. In addition, the velocity profiles of wake behind the cylinder were measured using a hot-wire anemometry As the angle of attack increases, the location of peak pressure on the windward and leeward surfaces of the cylinder moves toward the rear and front of the cylinder, respectively. At positive angles of attack, the position of the minimum pressure on the flat plate surface is moved downstream, but it is moved upstream at negative angles of attack. With increasing the angle of attack, the vortex shedding frequency is gradually decreased and the critical angel of attack exists in terms of the gap ratio. By installing the elliptic cylinder at negative angle of attack, the turbulent boundary layer over the flat plate is disturbed more than that at positive incidence. This may be attributed to the shift of separation point on the lower surface of the cylinder according to the direction of the angle of attack.
In this paper, we analyzed the laminated composite sandwich plate structure of honeycomb core with changing values of the designing parameters. As a result, in designing parameters of that, the more height and thickness of the laminated composite plate's core, the more increase of natural frequency. The laminated angle has the maximum value when the plate of honeycomb core is join to opposite direction. This paper shows that the natural frequency of CFRP is higher than that of GFRP, and also impact strength marks maximum value in case of antisymmetry than symmetry of core. Also it shows that the mode shapes are various along with the angle-ply of laminated composite plate.
The experimental study has been conducted on heat transfer characteristics of the plate heat exchangers(PHE) by several researchers. However most of all were focused on a gasket-type plate heat exchanger. Therefore further studies are need for a brazed-type. In the present study, a brazed type plate heat exchanger was tested at a chevron angle of $70^{\circ},\;55^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ with R-22 and R-410A. Condensation temperatures were $24.5^{\circ}C$, and mass flux was ranged from 35 to $60kg/m^2s$. The inlet and exit conditions are in a superheated vapor and subcooled liquid, respectively. The heat transfer coefficient increased with the chevron angle. The heat transfer coefficient of R-22 was lamer than that of R-410A for all chevron angles.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the stress distribution and displacement in mandible according to treatment modalities of mandibular angle fractures, using a three dimensional finite element analysis. A mechanical model of an edentulous mandible was generated from 3D scan. A 100-N axial load and four masticatory muscular supporting system were applied to this model. According to the number, location and materials of titanium and biodegradable polymer plates, the experimental groups were divided into five types. Type I had a single titanium plate in the superior border of mandibular angle, type II had two titanium plates in the superior tension border and in the inferior compression border of mandibular angle, type III had a single titanium plate in the ventral area of mandibular angle, type IV had a single biodegradable polymer plate in the superior border of mandibular angle, type V had a single biodegradable polymer plate in the ventral area of mandibular angle. The results obtained from this study were follows: 1. Stress was concentrated on the condylar neck of the fractured side except Type III. 2. The values of von-Mises stress of the screws were the highest in the just-posterior screw of the fracture line, and in the just-anterior screw of Type III. 3. The displacement of mandible in Type III was 0.04 mm, and in Type I, II, IV, and V were 0.10 mm. 4. The plates were the most stable in the ventral area of mandibular angle (Type III, V). In conclusion, the ventral area of mandibular angle is the most stable location in the fixation of mandibular angle fractures, and the just- posterior and/or the just-anterior screws of the fracture line must be longer than the other, and surgeons have to fix accurately these screws, and the biodegradable polymer plate also was suitable for the treatment of mandible angle fracture.
