  • Microtubules buckle under bending and torsion and this property has been studied for free microtubules before using orthotropic elastic shell model. But as microtubules are embedded in other elastic filaments and it is experimentally showed that these elastic filaments affect the critical buckling moment and critical buckling torque of the microtubules. To prove that, we developed orthotropic Winkler like model and demonstrated that the critical buckling moment and critical buckling torque of the microtubules are orders of higher magnitude than those found for free microtubules. Our results show that Critical buckling moment is about 6.04 nNnm for which the corresponding curvature is about θ = 1.33 rad /㎛ for embedded MTs, and critical buckling torque is 0.9 nNnm for the angle of 1.33 rad/㎛. Our results well proved the experimental findings.

  • Autonomous agricultural machines that are operated in small-scale farmland frequently experience turning and changes in direction. Thus, unlike when they are operated in large-scale farmland, the steering control systems need to be controlled precisely so that travel errors can be minimized. This study aims to develop a control algorithm for improving the path tracking performance of a steering system by analyzing the effect of the setting of the waypoint, which serves as the reference point for steering when an autonomous agricultural machine moves along a path or a coordinate, on control errors. A simulation was performed by modeling a 26-hp tractor steering system and by applying the equations of motion of a tractor, with the use of a computer. Path tracking errors could be reduced using an algorithm which sets the waypoint for steering on a travel path depending on the radius of curvature of the path and which then controls the speed and steering angle of the vehicle, rather than by changing the steering speed or steering ratio which are dependent on mechanical performance.

  • Understanding exoelectrogenic reactions of the bioanode is limited due to its complexity and the absence of analytics. Impedance and thermodynamics of bioanode, abiotic anode, and riboflavin-amended anode were evaluated. Activation overpotential of the bioanode was negligible compared with that of the abiotic anode. Impedance spectroscopy shows that the bioanode had much lower charge transfer resistance and higher capacitance than the abiotic anode in low frequency reaction. In high frequency reaction, the impedance parameters, however, were relatively similar between the bioanode and the abiotic anode. At open-circuit impedance spectroscopy, a high frequency arc was not detected in the abiotic anode in Nyquist plot. Addition of riboflavin induced a phase angle shift and created curvature in high-frequency arc of the abiotic anode, and it also drastically changed impedance spectra of the bioanode.

  • Plasma display panel (PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission that is produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalk from adjacent sub-pixels. Mold for forming barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing process such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. Mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring stripes of glass-material wall. In this paper. Stripes of grooves of which width 48 um, depth 124um, pitch 274um was acquired by machining the material of WC with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom and sidewall of the grooves was respectively 120 nm, 287 nm. Maximum tilt angle caused by difference between upper-most width and lower-most width was 2$^{\circ}$. Maximum Radius of curvature of bottom was 7.75 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. This results meets the specification for barrier ribs of 50 inch XGA PDP. Forming the glass paste will be followed by using mold in the near future.

  • Previous shape sensors including bend sensors and optic fiber based sensors are widely used in various applications including goniometer and surgical robots. But theses sensors have large nonlinearity, limited in the range of sensing curvature, and sometimes are expensive. This study suggests a new concept of bend sensor using cable-conduit which consists of the outer sheath and the inner wire. The outer sheath is made of helical coil whose length of the central line changes as the sheath bends. This length change of the central line can be measured with the length change of the inner cable. The modeling and the experimental results show that the output signal of the proposed sensor is linearly related with the bend angle of the sheath with root mean square error of 5.3% of $450^{\circ}$ sensing range. Also the polynomial calibration of the sensor can decrease the root mean square error to 2.1% of the full sensing range.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to review the effects of Daoyin exercise on scoliosis in clinical studies. Methods: In this study, we reviewed 9 electronic databases (Pubmed, CAJ, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CiNii, KISS, KMBASE, OASIS, ScienceON) on May 22, 2021. We included only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which evaluated the effect of Daoyin exercise on scolisos. The methodological quality of the included studies was checked using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results: After screening, eight RCTs fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The results of the meta-analysis showed that Daoyin exercise improves the measurement value of Cobb's angle, SRS-22, pulmoary function, physiological curvature, muscle strength, effective rate in scoliosis patients. Conclusion: We concluded that Daoyin exercise has therapeutic effects in relief of imbalance, improvement of symptoms, improvement of function, muscle strength for scoliosis. However, the quality of the original articles was low and the number of papers included were few. Thus, to confirm these results, further well-designed RCTs should be conducted.

  • The purpose of this longitudinal study was to examine the growth changes of mandibular symphysis and lower incisors with age. The material was 294 lateral cephalometric radiographs taken longitudinally from 6 to 13 year old children, who were not teated orthodontically. The following conclusions seem to be warranted. 1. The sex difference of the measurements of mandibular symphysis and lower incisors were not statistic ally significant. 2. There were growth increments (2.69mm in boys and 2.08mm in girls) in the total thickness of mandibular symphysis. 3. There were a great change and individual variations on the curvature of anterior border of mandibular symphysis. 4. The chin angle had a tendency to decrease progressively in both sexes. 5. There were growth increments (8.23mm in boys and 7.40mm in girls) in the anterior dental height. 6. The lower anterior teeth tended to incline labially with age.

  • Beams curved in plan are often designed with the circular curved member system including warping effects. In this study, the curved bridges are idealized as the circular curved member system with singly symmetric cross sections and simply supported ends. Displacement fields of them to satisfy the boundary conditions are expanded by Fourier series and the governing equation of natural frequencies of them is derived. The distributions of the characteristics of natural frequencies of them are shown according to the variations of relevant parameters-angle of intersection, curvature, and parameter of symmetry of cross section which can represent the properties of the curved bridges. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of relevant parameters on natural frequencies.
