Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship of expressions of hostility, trait anger, and anger in patients with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). Method: Ninety patients between 30 and 80 who were admitted to A hospital participated in the study. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey using convenience sampling. The research tool consisted of 24 questions by Costa et al (1986) and 10 questions specifically on anger from the Korean version (Chon, Hahn, & Lee, 1998) of the State-Trait Anger Inventory by Spielberger (1988). All of the questions were answered using a 4-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed with SPSS Win version 10.0. Result: Mean scores for hostility, trait anger, anger-out, anger-in, and anger-control were 2.51, 2.19, 1.93, 1.85, and 2.56, respectively. Hostility and trait anger showed a significantly positive correlation to anger-out and anger-in. Conclusion: This study presented baseline data that indicate that psychosocial factors are associated with the occurrence and progression of CAD. Accordingly, various programs that include psychological interventions are required to diminish the level of hostility and anger. Also, further studies should be conducted with larger patient populations.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate a cognitive behavioral anger management intervention in order to increase self-consciousness and decrease anger among Korean military men, Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used for this study. Ninety two soldiers were screened for unhealthy anger expression using a questionnaire. Among them, 26 soldiers who showed unhealthy anger expression were selected for this study. They were matched by rank and assigned to either a treatment or control group. The treatment group received the intervention three consecutive times, once a week and for 120 minutes per session. Participants were assessed before and after the intervention for anger (the State-Trait Anger Scale) and self-consciousness (Self-consciousness Scale). Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, $x^2-test$, Mann-Whitney test, and Wilcox on signed rank test. Results: There was no statistically significant decrease in anger or increase in self-consciousness between the two groups following treatment. However, there was a significant increase in private self-consciousness in the treatment group after the intervention(p=.006). Conclusion: The cognitive behavioral anger management program improves private self-consciousness in soldiers. However, Additional research is needed to explore whether long-term intervention is more effective for anger control in the military setting. The findings from this study suggest that more attention should be given to mental health care for Korean soldiers.
Objectives : The objective of this study was to observe the relationships between neck pain and psychological factors such as stress, anger, anxiety and depression. Methods: Under mental stress. the 31 patients with neck stiffness and 32 control subjects with no neck stiffness were measured by using NDI, BEPSI, GARS, STAXI, STAI, and BDI scales. The psychological scales between the patients and the controls were taken to observe the average results by comparing between the two groups. Also NDI and psychological scales of correlation analysis was performed. Results: 1. The mean scores of NDI, BEPSI, GARS, State-Anger, Trait-Anger, Anger-out, Anger-In, Sate-Anxiety, TraitAnxiety, and BDI under patients group were significantly higher than those in control group. 2. The value of NDI comparing to the values of BEPSI, GARS, State-Anger, Trait-Anger, Anger-out, Anger-In, Sate-Anxiety, Trait-Anxiety, and BDI in this study resulted in high correlation among each others which showed statistically significant. Conclusions : It has the possibility that the neck pain with stress. anxiety. anger and depression might be related highly in correlation. especially in stress and anxiety which showed the most high correlation.
The purposes of this study were to consist an anger control program in order to help children confirm and modify their cognitive errors in peer anger-provoking situations(Lee Mi-gyeong, 2006), that and to examine the effects of this program on anger-provoking experience, anger controllability and peer relationship. The cognitive-behavioral anger control program was consisted of 16 sessions. The focus of the program were placed on perceiving angry feelings, confirming automatic thinking and cognitive errors and acquiring how to correct the cognitive errors(1st-10th sessions), and checking cognitive errors in 13 anger-provoking situations and practicing way to correct the errors(11th-15th sessions). To examine the effects of the program, 10 children who had a lot of anger-provoking experiences, and were poor at anger control and faced difficulties with peer relationship were selected. The cognitive-behavioral anger control program was implemented for eight weeks, twice a week, 40 minutes each. The collected data were analysed by the ANOVA method using the SPSS and Kwakstat(Kwak Ho-wan, 1993). What cognitive errors children made and how they modified the errors during the program were checked. The findings of the study were as follows: The cognitive-behavioral anger control program served to cut down on the anger-provoking experiences, to improve their anger controllability, to boost their peer relationship, and that effect lasted till six weeks later. And the cognitive errors they made during the program were in the order as follows: stating the oughtness of their behavior, followed by naming, seeing everything in black and white, emotional judgment, mind reading, linking the situation to themselves, overgeneralizing, and hasty conclusion. The ways to correct the cognitive errors were in the order as follows: putting oneself in another's place, explaining in a different manner, looking for proof, thinking of it is so difficult to indure, thinging of there is moral to it, and thinking of how angry after passing time.
The purpose of this study was to identify children's different styles of anger-expression and the characteristics of each anger-expression style. The Q-methodology with a 32 Q-sample was used to investigate and analyze the subjective expression of childrens's anger experiences. The subjects were 22 children living in D city, and the data were collected by means of interviews. The analysis revealed six styles of anger-expression, a solution which accounted for 65.13% of the total variance. The six styles were labeled "Patience type", "Avoidance-conversion type", "Reaction-seek type", "Control type", "Repression type", and "Conversion-consideration type". It was recommended that intervention strategies for children's appropriate anger-expression mode should be based on these six anger-expression styles.
This study examined to find out mediating variable between ordinary stress and anxiety-depression. The subjects were 2,844 4th grade elementary school in Korea. The instruments used were questionnaires about anxiety-depression, ordinary stress, anger control ability and negative self-concept. Data were analyzed by t-test and regression. Major findings were as follows: (1) There were significant difference in parent-, appearance-, possession-related stress, anger control ability, negative self-concept and anxiety-depression according to sex. (2) Parent-, schoolwork-, peer-, appearance-related stress and anger control ability had a significant effect on the anxiety-depression. The principal finding was that anger control ability had mediating role between ordinary stress(schoolwork-, peer-, appearance-related stress) and anxiety-depression in male, one side parent-related stress and anxiety-depression in female. (3) Parent-, schoolwork-, peer-, appearance-related stress and negative self-concept had a significant effect on the anxiety-depression. The principal finding was that negative self-concept had mediating role between ordinary stress(parent-, schoolwork-, peer-, appearance-, possession-related stress) and anxiety-depression in male, one side parent-, peer-related stress and anxiety-depression in female.

Purpose: This study was designed to examine the relation of trait anger and anger expression to blood pressure, cholesterol, and depression in middle-aged Korean women. Methods: This descriptive correlational design was conducted using a convenient sample taken from the health center of K University Hospital located in Kyungki province, Korea. The subjects were 252 women aged 40 to 64 years. Spielberger's state trait anger expression inventory - Korean version and Beck's depression inventory were used for measuring trait anger, state anger, anger expression and depression. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson correlation, two-way ANOVA, and cluster analysis using a pc-SAS program. Results: The anger expression types by cluster analysis were Anger out/in type, Low anger expression type, and Anger control type. The level of cholesterol and depression were significantly higher in women with high anger in and high trait anger. In addition, the level of depression was significantly higher in women with a high anger temperament. Conclusions: Trait anger and anger in might be related to cholesterol and depression in women. However, this study does not reveal the relation between blood pressure and trait anger and anger expression.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of dynamic imagery therapy on "anger-in" and immune function in patients with breast cancer. Method: Dynamic imagery therapy was given for 10 sessions with 2 times informative education. Data collection was from June, 24th to August, 12th 2002. The participants were experimental group 15, control group 15. This study was designed using a quasi-experimental approach with non-equivalent Pre test-Post test Design. The instruments used in this study include the anger scale developed by Spielberger(1972) and modified by Chon, Kyum Koo (1996), The data was analysed with $\chi^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA and ANCOVA. Result: 1) That the level of "Anger-in" in patients will be significantly lower than that of the control group was supported (p<.001). 2) That the level of T3 lymphocyte and NK Cells, IgG. Cortisol in patients will be significantly lower than that of the control group was supported (T3, IgG: p<.05, Cortisol p<.001). Conclusion: The dynamic imagery therapy is suggested as an effective nursing intervention to reduce anger level and increase immune function for patients with breast cancer.
This study aims to investigate interaction effects of self-esteem with self-resilience on adolescents' anger and to suggest for teaching method.
