  • BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) has been extensively used for communication between mobile applications and wearable devices in IoT (Internet of Things). In developing Android applications, wearable devices, on which the applications can run, should be available because the existing Android SDK does not support any BLE emulation facility. In this study, we have designed and implemented the first Android BLE emulator. Using this, we are able to develop and test BLE-based Android applications even when without wearable devices. We have also proposed an automatic generation method of Android BLE scenarios based on graph model. We have shown that the method is useful for systematically testing BLE application protocols by running the generated scenarios on the Android BLE emulator.

  • In recent years, as smartphones with Android platforms expand, the number of Android applications increases. Android applications implement Java and XML to compose the user interface, among other things. Between Java and XML, various problems may occur. Nonetheless, static analysis research and tools are not sufficient. In this paper we will list the problems which may occur between Java and XML. Subsequently, we will propose a detection method for them. Using the proposed technique, we found 172 Android-specific problems and 35 performance drop issues in 150 Android applications in the Google Play Store. We would like to contribute to research into static analysis and software quality improvement.

  • IOT(Internet of things) is a technology to embed various sensors and communication features on diverse things such as home appliances, mobile devices, wearable computers and connect to the Internet and through this technology, the status of things connected to the network can be analyzed and controlled with various data. On the other hand, this paper suggests to develop a merchandise management app using Android-based barcode to systematically manage expiry date of various goods that we purchase in our daily life. Therefore, individual goods are recognized with mobile-based barcode and divided under each category. By additionally supporting the notification service to let us know about expire date, goods can be efficiently managed.

  • Android is one of the most popular platforms for the mobile and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. This popularity has made Android-based devices a valuable target of malicious apps. Thus, it is essential to devise automatic and portable malware detection approaches for the Android platform. There are many studies on detecting mobile malware using machine learning techniques. In these studies, however, the dataset is imbalanced or is not large enough to generalize the machine learning model, or the dimensionality of features is too high to apply nonlinear classifiers. In this article, we propose a machine learning-based Android malware detection scheme that uses API calls and permissions as features. To restrict the dimensionality of features, we propose minimal domain knowledge-based and Gini importance-based feature selection. We construct large and balanced real-world datasets to build a generalized and non-skewed model and verify our model through experiments. We achieve 96.51% classification accuracy using Random Forest classifier with low overhead. In addition, we also provide an analysis on falsely classified samples in detail. The analysis results show that API hiding can degrade the performance of API call information-based malware detection systems.

  • The environment of Internet of Things (IoT) wherein various devices are connected through the Internet with value-added network functions, is currently a subject of active study. Accordingly, the existing computing environment based on desktop or mobile systems is being expanded into a computing environment of more diverse devices. Because the response of program launching is important in terms of User Experience (UX) in IoT environments, the technology for guaranteeing rapid response of program launching in IoT devices is getting the focus of much current research. In this paper we analyze the Zygote technique, which is being used for faster program execution in Android systems, and, based on our results, we propose an address space maintaining scheme for the rapid launching of programs for use in Linux-based systems. Our scheme utilizes the Copy on Write (CoW) technique in Linux systems as well as the Zygote technique of Android systems. In order to evaluate the proposed scheme, we implemented our scheme on Linux systems and performed several experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme shortens the launching time up to 99%, compared to the existing technique.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented a system to easily check and manage book inventory using web and Android mobile device. In the previous conventional method, the user visits the bookstore directly and then checks the inventory. However, in this case, the user accessibility is inconvenient, and it is troublesome to check or reconfirm the inventory. In order to solve these inconveniences, we provide book inventory management system for requesting book purchase and inquiring bulletin board by book field, and then providing real time inventory check with book application and purchase functions. In addition, through the push notification function, we can catch up with the purchase status of the ordered books on the web and Android mobile device in real time. Therefore, we designed and implemented a function that enables bookstore operators and users to easily and conveniently manage by providing statistical information on inventory data.

  • Recent Internet of Things(IoT), and in addition to wearable PC, such as software development methodologies based on a variety of object-oriented design and design patterns of GoF(Gang of Four) with OOP(Object-Oriented Programming) intended for portable devices. However, incorrect application design specification is that the higher the importance of the optimization of the program on the device because it can cause problems such as decreased operating speed, increase the memory occupancy and battery usage. In this paper, we propose an optimized design pattern based on the method of application, such as Android (Android) OS Strategy Pattern, State Pattern, Observer pattern. Test results show that the proposed scheme selection patterns can be selected to optimize the design pattern in the device that specification.

  • An Internet of Things(IoT) technology which provides intelligent services by combining context-awareness based intelligences, inter-communication is made of between things and things or between things and person through the network connected with intelligent things is spreading rapidly. Especially as this technology is converged into smart device, mobile, cloud, big data technologies, it is applied into various domains. Therefore, this is different from existing Web or Mobile Application. New types of IoT applications are emerging by adapting IoT into Web or mobile. Because IoT application is not only focused on software but also considering hardware or things aspect, there are limitations existing development process. Existing development processes don't consider analysis and design techniques considering both hardware and things. We propose not only a meta-model for development process which can support IoT application's development but also meta-models for main activities in this paper. Especially we define modeling elements by using UML's extension mechanisms, provide development process, and suggest design techniques how to apply those elements into IoT application's modeling phase. Because there are many types of IoT application's type, we propose an Android and Arduino-based on IoT application as a case study. We expect that proposed technique can be applied into many of various IoT application development and design with a form of flexible and extensible as well as main functionalities or elements are more concretely described. As a result, it brings IoT application's flexibility and the effect of quality improvement.

  • Recently, as mobile operating system market and wireless communication technology have been rapidly developed, many devices such as smart phones, air conditioners, smart TVs, cleaning robot, and cameras become available with android operating system. Accordingly, collecting variety of information through many everyday use devices with network connections is now enabled. However, in the current market, most devices are controlled individually developed applications, and there is growing need to develop a master application that can control multiple devices. In this paper, we propose and implement a system that can control multiple android-based devices on a Wired/Wireless router(AP) registered through web server. we expect such an effort can attribute to future IoT researches.
