Soft storey failure mechanism is a common collapse mode for masonry-infilled (MI) reinforced concrete (RC) buildings subjected to severe earthquakes. Simple analytical equations correlating global with local ductility demands are derived from pushover (PO) analyses for seismic assessments of regular MI RC frames, considering the critical interstorey drift ratio, number of storeys and lateral loading configurations. The reliability of the equations is investigated using incremental dynamic analyses for MI RC frames of up to 7 storeys. Using the analytical ductility relationship and a coefficient-based method (CBM), the response spectral accelerations and period shift factors of low-rise MI RC frames are computed. The results are verified through published shake table test results. In general applications, the analytical ductility relationships thus derived can be used to bypass the onerous PO analysis while accurately predicting the local ductility demands for seismic assessment of regular MI RC frames.
Novel steel fibre reinforced ultra-lightweight cement composite (ULCC) with compressive strength of 87.3MPa and density of $1649kg/m^3$ was developed for the flat slabs in civil buildings. This paper investigated structural behaviours of ULCC flat slabs according to a 4-specimen test program under concentrated loading and some reported test results. The investigated governing parameters on the structural behaviours of the ULCC slabs include volume fraction of the steel fibre and the patch loading area. The test results revealed that ULCC flat slabs with and without flexure reinforcement failed in different failure mode, and an increase in volume fraction of the steel fibre and loading area led to an increase in flexural resistance for the ULCC slabs without flexural reinforcement. Based on the experiment results, the analytical models were developed and also validated. The validations showed that the analytical models developed in this paper could predict the ultimate strength of the ULCC flat slabs with and without flexure reinforcement reasonably well.
This paper aims to analyze the dynamic response of thermoelectric carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams under moving harmonic load resting on Pasternak elastic foundation. The governing equations of thermoelectric CNTRC beam are obtained based on the Karama shear deformation beam theory. The beams are resting on the Pasternak foundation. Previous articles have not performed the moving load mode with the analytical method. The exact solution for the transverse and axial dynamic response is presented using the Laplace transform. A comparison of previous studies has been published, where a good agreement is observed. Finally, some examples were used to analyze, such as excitation frequency, voltage, temperature, spring constant factors, the volume fraction of Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), the velocity of a moving harmonic load, and their influence on axial and transverse dynamic and maximum deflections. The advantages of the proposed method compared to other numerical methods are zero reduction of the error percentage that exists in numerical methods.
The analytical treatment for a terminal cost problem of a distributed reactor with a small singular parameter is presented. The inverse of the neutron velocity is regarded as a singular parameter, and the model, adopted for simplicity, is a cylindrically symmetrical reactor. The Helmholtz mode expension is used for the application of the optimal theory for lumped parameter systems to the spatially distributed parameter system. The closed-form solution is explicitely obtained for machine calculation.

The mode II fracture behavior of a single-layer graphene sheet (SLGS) containing a center crack was characterized with the results of an atomistic simulation and an analytical model. The fracture of zigzag graphene models was analyzed with molecular dynamics and the mode II fracture toughness was found to be $2.04MPa{\sqrt{m}}$. The in-plane shear fracture of a cellular material was analyzed theoretically for deriving the $K_{IIc}$ of SLGS, and FEM results were obtained. Mixed-mode fracture of SLGS was studied for various mode I and mode II ratios. The mixed-mode fracture criterion was determined, and the obtained fracture envelope was in good agreement with that of another study.

Short channel effects (SCE) of bulk MOSFET with super-steep retrograded channels (SSR), fully-depleted SOI, and double-gate MOSFET have been analyzed using a evanescent-mode analysis. Analytical equations of the characteristics scaling-length (λ) for three structures have been derived and the accuracy of the calculated λ was verified by comparing to the device simulation result. It is found that the minimum channel length should be larger than 5λ and the depletion thickness of the SSR should be around 30 nm in order to be applicable to 70 nm CMOS technology. High-$textsc{k}$ dielectric shows a limitation in scaling due to the drain-field penetration through the dielectric unless the equivalent SiO2 thickness is very thin.
The input impedances of pulse width modulated (PWM) dc-to-dc converters, which dictate the outcomes of the dynamic interaction between dc-to-dc converters and their source subsystem, are analyzed in a general and unified manner. The input impedances of three basic PWM dc-to-dc converters are derived with both voltage mode control and current mode control. This paper presents the analytical expressions of the 24 input impedances of three basic PWM dc-to-dc converters with the two different control schemes in a factorized time-constant form. It also provides a comprehensive reference for future dynamic interaction analyses requiring knowledge of the converters' input impedances. The theoretical predictions of the paper are all supported by measurements on prototype dc-to-dc converters. The use of the presented results is demonstrated via a practical application example, which analyzes the small-signal dynamics of an input-filter coupled current-mode controlled buck converter. This elucidates the theoretical background for the previously-reported eccentric behavior of the converter.

This study is the results of the analytical research for a dual-model scramjet engine flowpath which is included inlet, isolator, combustor, and nozzle. To design a dual-mode scramjet engine and to investigate its performance, the performance analysis models and tools are required to develope for aerodynamic, thermodynamic characteristics, propulsion, and total system. Therefore, analysis models for air inlet, isolator, supersonic combustor, and nozzle of a dual-mode scramjet engine were accomplished, the performance characteristics of a dual-mode scramjet engine is investigated with using the developed analysis tools.
The structure of Ti:LiNbO$_3$optical waveguide with a mode size far different from that of single mode optical fiber has been optimized by tapering the waveguide ends. This work was focused on determining the optimized sets of parameters for the fabrication of low-loss Ti indiffused optical waveguides in LiNbO$_3$. Numerical and analytical modeling were applied to simulate the guiding quality and to determine the mode sizes. Based on these modeling results, new waveguide structures with tapered ends have been defined, fabricated and characterized in the respect of the coupling of fiber to Ti-indiffused LiNbO$_3$waveguide.
An analytical study is made of transient adjustment process of an initially stationary, stably-stratified fluid in a square. The boundary walls are highly-conducting. The overall Rayleigh number $R_a$ is large. Considerations are given to both opposing (${\delta}w/{\delta}T>0$) and cooperating (${\delta}w/{\delta}T<0$) configurations. The flow character in opposing configuration can be classified into (a) a forced-convection dominaut mode (${\delta}w/{\delta}T>1/\sqrt{2}$), (b) a buoyancy-convection dominant mode ($0<{\delta}w/{\delta}T<1/\sqrt{2}$), and (c) a static mode (${\delta}w/{\delta}T{\cong}1/\sqrt{2}$). Global evolutionary processes are depicted. and physical rationalizations are provided.
