  • For the advancement of research in biological education in Korea, research trends shown in Journal of Biological Education(JBE)of England were analyzed by using a PC program(REFMENU). Papers Published in JBE between 1977 and 1987 were registered on the program with classifying keys of biological education and biology including names of authors, year, title, volume pages, and key words. Those input-date were analyzed by sorting depend-ing on either the classifying keys or the key words. Among the 361 papers 28.8% was dealing with the theory of science education. The rest dealt with biology and biological education, together. Of the six categories of biological education, the research on biological curriculum was 41 % of total and was the most. The major trends in this category was in developing the content of the curriculum. In the research of biological instruction, 37 papers dealt with the instruction theory and the rest 60 papers dealt with the tactics of Instruction. Of the 60 papers on materials in biological education, the research in developing the biological material was the most. Thus, the general research trend was far more practical aspect than the theoretical aspect of biological education. In the analysis of the papers depending on the biological categories, the one dealt with ecology was the most(26.8%). The rest papers showed almost even distribution in the 13 categories of biology. The results of this analysis was discussed by comparing with the research trends in Korea to suggest the possible future studies.

  • Background and Purpose : This study was to investigate statistical validities and trends of previously reported papers that used various statistical techniques such as t-test and analysis of variance. Methods : To analyze the statistical procedures, 38 original articles using those statistical methods were selected from Journal of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine(JKIOM) published from 2010 to 2012. Results : Analysis of variance and t-test were used in 20 papers (38.5%), 16 papers (30.8%) of 52 papers. Four articles(10.5%) did not report ${\alpha}$ values and nineteen papers(50.0%) of 38 ones were not tested for normal distribution. Five papers (13.2%) misused t-test and 3 papers (7.9%) did not carry out the multiple comparison. Conclusions : To improve the quality of JKIOM, The participation of statisticians in research design will reduce the significant errors in statistical interpretation of the results.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is identifying the research trends of degree papers related to the beauty industry and providing information which can contribute to the development of the domestic beauty industry and the direction of various research about beauty industry. Research design, data and methodology: This study used 154 academic papers and 189 academic papers with English abstracts out of 299 academic papers. All of these papers were found by searching for the keyword "beauty industry" in ScienceON on August 15, 2022. For the analysis, BERTopic and LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) analysis were conducted using Python 3.7. Also, OLS regression analysis was conducted to understand the annual increase and decrease trend of each topic derived with trend analysis. Results: As a result of word frequency analysis, the frequency of satisfaction, management, behavior, and service was found to be high. In addition, it was found that 'service', 'satisfaction' and 'customer' were frequently associated with program and relationship in the word co-occurrence frequency analysis. As a result of topic modeling, six topics were derived: 'Beauty shop', 'Health education', 'Cosmetics', 'Customer satisfaction', 'Beauty education', and 'Beauty business'. The trend analysis result of each topic confirmed that 'Beauty education' and 'Health education' are getting more attention as time goes by. Conclusions: The future studies must resolve the extreme polarization between the structure of the small beauty industry and beauty stores. Furthermore, the researches have to direct various ways to create the performance of internal personnel. The ways to maximize product capabilities such as competitive cosmetics and brands are also needed attentions.

  • Objectives : Type analysis and comparison among three decades are done on papers published in The Journal of Korean Acupuncture and Moxibustion from the inaugural issue to the last issue of 2013, Vol 30(5). Methods : Journal search engine at 'theacpuncture' and 'kamms' were used. Issues not searched in these two search engines were not included in the analysis. Results : The number of journals in the thirty years of the journal history included 2081 articles. For type analysis of the articles, experiment articles outnumbered other types with 743 papers followed by 564 review articles, 601 clinical articles, and 156 case articles. In comparison among three decades, recent ten years outnumbered the other types with 1060 papers followed by 853 papers in the middle decade and 168 papers at the initial decade. Conclusion : In the thirty years of the journal history, the research has become more actively done in the recent decade.

  • This work aims to clarify the character and selection of repair papers, based on fibre orientation information of paper cultural properties under restoration; using nondestructive image analysis applied to micrographs of paper surfaces. Image analysis using fast Fourier transform with suitable modifications was demonstrated to be an effective means to determine angle and intensity of fiber orientation as a nondestructive method. In the case of contemporary repair papers, the Japanese handmade paper exhibited a high anisotropy value, while the Korean handmade papers exhibited low anisotropy values. Korea and Japanese traditional hand making papers were well distinguished. Korea and Japanese papers made in the traditional ways showed its own characteristic orientation behavior in accordance with the motion of a bamboo wire.

  • The new approach using the Peak Pattern Method was conducted for the analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from the papers or paper products to provide certain hygienic data for the recycled papers as well as white papers. The height of the each peak, obtained from the PCBs standards, was transformed to the spectrum to compare with that of the samples. In addition to the results of the single PCBs standards, the pattern of mixed PCBs standards with the adequate concentration and ratios were obtained prior to the analysis of the paper samples. The test showed excellent repetition within 5% variation, and the recoveries of PCBs ranged from 92% to 97%. The PCBs, considered as a hazard material, were analyzed using the Peak Pattern Method from six different types of paper samples including the roll tissue. It could not find the same pattern of the PCBs peaks from all of the paper samples.

  • Background The number of citations that a published article has received reflects the importance of the paper in the particular area of practice. In microsurgery, thus far, which journal articles are cited most frequently is unknown. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the characteristics of the top 50 papers in the field of microsurgery in the plastic surgery literature. Methods The 50 most cited papers published in high impact plastic surgery and microsurgery journals were identified. The articles were ranked in the order of the number of citations received. These 50 classic papers were analyzed for article type, journal distribution, and geographic and institutional origin. Results Six international journals contributed to the top 50 papers in microsurgery. The most cited paper reported on the early use of the vascularized bone graft and was cited 116 times. The top 50 papers originated from just 10 countries with the United States producing the most. The Preston and Northcote Community Hospital, Melbourne published 5 papers and this was the most productive institution in the top 50. Conclusions These papers represent many important milestones in the relatively short history of microsurgery. Furthermore, our citation analysis provides useful information to budding authors as to what makes a paper attain a "classic" status.

  • We present an analysis of the papers published in the journals Nature and Science in the years from 2006 to 2010. During this period, 7788 papers in total were published in the two journals. This includes 544 astronomy papers that correspond to 7.0% of the papers in 'all' research fields and 18.9% of those in the field of 'physical sciences'. The sub-fields of research of the astronomy papers are distributed, in a descending order of the number of papers, in Solar System, stellar astronomy, galaxies and the universe, the Milky Way Galaxy, and exoplanets. The observational facilities used for the studies are mainly ground-based telescopes (31.1%), spacecrafts (27.0%), and space telescopes (22.8%), while 16.0% of papers did not use any noticeable facilities and 1.7% used other facilities. Korean scientists have published 86 papers (33 in Nature and 53 in Science), which is 1.10% of all the papers (N = 7788) in the two journals. The share of papers by Korean astronomers among the scientific papers by Koreans is 8.14%, slightly higher than the contribution of astronomy papers (7.0%) in both journals.
