중학교 수학 교육과정 및 교과서 내용의 양과 난이도 수준 분석 (Analysis of the Quantity and Quality of the Contents of Junior High School Mathematics Curriculum and Textbooks)

  • There seems to be a public consensus that the content of Korean mathematics textbooks is extensive and of a high level of difficulty. However, such judgment is the result of a generalization based on individual experience or on the results from comparisons of the international levels of achievement. Therefore, a more objective and stricter approach to the determination of the quantity and level of difficulty of mathematics content is necessary. For this purpose, this study has compared the content of Koreas 6th and 7th junior high school curriculums, and the Korean mathematics curriculum to textbooks of the United States, which has a considerable influence on the making of Korean mathematics textbooks. First of all, a comparison of Koreas 6th and 7th junior high school mathematics curriculums showed a slight reduction in the total quantity of content, as more content was deleted than was added in the 7th curriculum. However, given the fact that the number of hours of mathematics classes has been reduced, the reduction in content cannot be regarded as anything more than a simple reflection of the reduction in hours, proving that the 7th curriculum has not met its revision objective of reducing the content by 30%. Meanwhile, the comparison of the United States junior high school mathematics textbooks to Korea's 7th curriculum showed that the 7th grade content in the United States was much broader, encompassing content which in Korea ranged from the 2nd grade of elementary school to the 2nd year of junior high school. Therefore, on the surface, it may appear that the overall level of content in the American mathematics textbook is lower than that of the Korean. However, there are several cafes, such as statistics and probability, where certain content was more difficult and introduced at an earlier grade in the United States than in Korea. In fact, it can be said that Korea students tend to find content of the mathematics textbooks to be harder than they actually are because they are delivered as a mere aggregate of algorithms, with little consideration to its application in their everyday lives. In this respect, there is much room for improvement on the mathematics textbooks of Korea.

초등학교 보건교과서 분석 (Contents Analysis of Health Textbooks for Elementary Schools)

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to analyse the content of health-textbooks in elementary school in order to offer the basic data required for development or revision of health-textbook for elementary school. Methods: This study was methodological study of the content of health-textbooks. The study sample consisted of 10 health-textbooks of elementary school which were edited in 2009~2010. The components of contents divides into holistic analysis and specific areas. Results: One textbook was no introductory remarks and 2 textbooks were no preface. The health-textbooks consisted of 7 areas and were comprehensive for school education. The proportion of each was different in 10 textbooks. Sexuality and health was accounted for the largest portion of the seven areas in both the fifth and sixth grade. However, given that the mortality rate for the child's safety accidents is higher than in developed countries, the proportion of accident prevention and first aid can be relatively weak area. Conclusion: It is essential that health-textbooks empower schoolers to make healthy decisions through the promotion of useful life skills that provide a more integrated concept of health. Therefore, there is a need for approaches to health textbook to integrate more values of health.

제7차 교육과정 초등학교 교과서에 나타난 간호 이미지 (Nursing Images Appearing in Elementary School Textbooks under the 7th National Curriculum)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the nursing images appearing in elementary school textbooks. Method: This study targeted 130 textbooks of 13 subjects under the 7th national curriculum for elementary schools as of December 2005. Nursing-related texts, photographs, and illustrations in the textbooks were analyzed by using a content analysis method. As for the textbook analysis, two coders thoroughly read the textbooks to record nursing-related content per coding paper, respectively. Result: The total number of nursing-related content appearing in 130 textbooks of 13 subjects was 70. More nursing-related content was exhibited in the photograph and illustration domain(N=57, 81.4%) than in the text domain(N=13, 18.6%). Nursing-related content(N=70) appeared in the order of nursing activities with 56(80.0%), nursing as a job with 10(14.3%), and others with 4(5.7%). As for the nursing image of nursing-related content, positive images weremost with 30(42.9%), followed by negative images with 21(30.0%), and neutral images with 19(27.1%). Conclusion: Nursing-related content was dealt with too little, and dependent nursing activities such as medication, and assisting roles for doctor's examinations and treatments mainly appeared. Also, the main activity place was a hospital. To introduce proper and adequate nursing activities to the students, various types of nursing-related data and material should be distributed to front line schools, teachers, main authors, and publishing companies.

한국과 미국 초등학교 교과서에 나타난 과학의 본성 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis of the Presentation of the Nature of Science (NOS) in Korea and US Elementary Science Textbooks)

  • The national reform document, Science for All Americans (AAAS, 1990), and the Next Generation Science Standards (NRC, 2012) emphasize the importance of the nature of science in guiding science educators in accurately portraying science to students. Therefore, it is important that textbook materials convey an accurate conception of the nature of science. This study employs content analysis to examine the content of textbooks in US and Korea elementary science textbooks with regard to the four aspects of the nature of science: (a) nature of scientific knowledge; (b) nature of scientific inquiry; (c) nature of scientific thinking; and (d) nature of interactions among science, technology, and society (Chiappetta, Fillman, & Sethna, 2004). Intercoder reliability was determined by calculating Cohen's kappa (Cohen, 1960). Findings show that while US elementary science textbooks are not balanced in presenting the four aspects of the nature of science regardless of the publishing companies, the presentation of the nature of science in Korean elementary science textbooks have better balanced treatment of the four themes across the grade levels. On the other hand, both US and Korean elementary science textbooks are attempting to convey an idea of what science is by emphasizing scientific knowledge and investigation.

  • This research analyzed the contents of the elementary and middle school home economics textbooks within the 7th Curriculum from two theoretical Perspectives: structural functionalism and healthy family. A quantitative and in-depth content analysis was carried out with the five elements of family structure, family role, family relation, communication, dating and pregnancy. A healthy family Perspective was found in relation to the elements of family type and family role from the in-depth analysis of the elementary school practical arts textbook. In the middle school textbooks, the five elements reflected a strong structural-functionalist tendency. In both levels, the quantitative content analysis indicated that a structural-functionalist viewpoint was prevalent in the graphical components of the textbooks, including pictures, diagrams and graphs.

한국의 국민학교 자연 교과서와 SCIIS의 탐구 활동 버교 분석 (The Comparative Analysis of Inquiry Activity in Primary Science Curricular Materials of Korea and SCIIS)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the inquiry activities of SCIIS and Korea primary school science curricular meterials and to make suggestions for the improvement of inquiry learning based on the analysis The Scientific Inquiry Evaluation Inventory (SIEI: Myung Hur, 1984) was used to evaluate the inquiry activity content of the primary school "Science, Level-6" and "SCIIS, Level-6" textbooks. The results are as follows: 1) The inquiry activities of Korean science textbooks are stressing on gathering and organizing data, but rarely require students to formulate a hypothesis, to design an experiment. 2) The SCIIS textbooks relatively tended to put more weight on interpreting/ analysing data and hypothesizing/ designing experiments. 3)The Korean science textbooks had little concern about establishing hypothesis and designing experiments, interpreting / analysing data. 4) The SCIIS textbooks require students to perform a variety of inquiry skills when compare to Korean science textbooks. 5) Competition / Cooperation Scale checks the level of competition and cooperation among student teams inherent in science curricular materials. The result from each team is incorporated into the formation of a class result. The communication is required to formulate a synthesized class response, enhances cooperation among teams. The SCIIS(84%) is the higher than Korea(50%) in cooperation scale. 6) Korean science textbooks rarely require students to discuss about experiment when compare to SCIIS textbooks. 7) Korean science textbooks provide students with both inquiry problems and experimental procedure, or including answers SCIIS textbooks provide students with both inquiry problems and experimental procedure, or problems only. 8) The Korean textbooks emphasize demonstrating or verifying of the text while the SCIlS emphasize extending the content of the text in inquiry scope scsle. The inquiry pyramid which helps analysis the inquiry activity curriculum as a whole is one of type 1- the course is centered on gathering and organizing data. The SCIIS are better than the Korean science textbook in the light of proportion of interpreting / analysing data and hypothesizing / designing experiments.

2007 개정 교육과정에 의한 초등학교 과학 교과서의 STS 내용 분석 (An Analysis of the STS Content in the Elementary Science Textbooks Developed under the 2007 Revised National Curriculum)

  • In this study, we analyzed the proportions of STS content, components, topics, and types of the activities of STS content in the elementary science textbooks developed under the 2007 Revised National Curriculum. The analyses of the results revealed that the percentage of STS content included was 15.9% by the number of pages, and 13.5% by the lesson hour. By the components of the STS content, the proportion of 'application of science', 'science-technology and our life' and 'social problems and issues' were large. Most STS topics were related to the 'effects of technological developments' and 'environmental issue', and the topics of 'family and population' and 'human engineering' were few. By the types of the activities, reading was the most, and investigation and writing were also found. Compared with those of the science textbooks developed under the 7th National Curriculum, the variety of components of the STS content increased, but the proportion of STS content and the variety of activities of STS content decreased in the science textbooks developed under the 2007 Revised National Curriculum.

시·도 교육청 '우리들은 1학년' 교과서 내용 분석 (Comparative Analysis on 'We are the First Graders' Textbooks)

  • The purposes of this study were to compare and analyze the local primary textbooks for the subject of 'We are the First Graders'. This study analyzed the common points and the differences among three textbooks developed by the three educational bureaus of Seoul, Daegu and Busan. The criterion of analysis were scope, sequence and integration of curriculum representing the principles for developing curriculum. The results were as follows: First, the scopes of topics included in 2007 National Curriculum of 'We are the First Graders' were faithfully reflected in the three local textbooks. Second, the sequences of textbooks were generally arranged according to the order of curriculum content except for some contents. As for 'Wise School Life', some contents were presented at the first unit of the three textbooks and the others were gradually expanded at the latter of the textbooks. Third, the integration of curriculum appeared meaningfully in the three textbooks. Based on these results, this study suggested some recommendations on the activites for the adaptation at the early stage in the primary school under 2009 National Curriculum.

고등학교 가정 교과서 분석 연구 (Analysis of Home Economics Textbooks for High School)

  • The purposes of the study are to see as to how much of changes has occurred in the newly revised high school Home Economics Textbooks required by the 6th Curriculum and to seek future policy directions which can be improved even better, if any, for further revision. To implement this proposal, the study employs 6 different textbooks published in 1996 geared for the 6th Curriculum for data base. The components of the contents divides into two major parts. The first part faUs into a category of holistic analysis of the textbooks, which gives a general perspective of the changes in the textbook revised. It includes those areas of changes in the total number of pacover page, illustrations, table of contents, appendices, unit cover, introductory remarks, summary and evaluation, etc. It also covers the information on authors of textbook. The latter part consists of several specific areas of major changes occurred in the textbooks for the 6th Curriculum. It covers such areas of changes in the composition of category and its weigh laboratory experiences, and illustrations and tables. To conclude the study, there found followings key features : 1) The new textbooks have adopted more of varieties in physical appearances and contents per se as to the older ones. And yet, there still found a weakness in numbers of authors participated to a full reflection of contents variety. In addition, the background of authors reflected on an unrealistic idealism which lacks the on-site information provided by the school teachers. 2) The content area consists of 3 major areas of Human Development & Family Relationship. Food and Nutrition. Clothing and Textiles with ratio of 23.8%, 23.1%, and 21.9% respectively. 3) Human Development & Family Relationship area ranked first with 71 times in the numbers of laboratory activities for each content area. followed by Food and Nutrition with 56 and Family Resorces & Consumerism with 54. 수학 교과서 연구 동향 분석 - 최근 5년 동안 게재된 국내 학술지 논문을 중심으로 - (Research Trends of Mathematics Textbooks: Focused on the Papers Published in Domestic Journals During Recent Five Years)

  • 본 연구는 최근 5년간 7개 국내 전문 학술지에 게재된 논문 중 수학 교과서 관련 논문 123편을 대상으로 그 연구 동향을 분석하였다. 우리나라 수학 교과서에 대한 연구는 학교급, 수학과 내용 영역, 분석 방법, 시사점 제시 방식으로 나누어 전반적인 경향을 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 초등학교 수학 교과서 관련 연구가 많은 비중을 차지하였고 특히 수와 연산 영역에 편중되는 경향이 있었다. 분석 방법과 관련해서는 수학 내용 및 수학적 엄밀성을 기준으로 한 경우가 가장 많았으나, 새로운 교과서 개발 과정을 기술한 연구가 증가하였다. 시사점 제시 방식의 측면에서는 연구 결과에 구체적인 개선 방안을 제시하거나, 재구성을 시도하고 적용한 연구의 비중이 증가하였다. 본 논문은 또한 외국 수학 교과서를 비교 분석한 연구에 대해 국가별 비교 이유, 학교급, 분석 대상 중심으로 살펴본 결과를 포함하였다. 이와 같은 수학 교과서 동향 분석 결과를 바탕으로 향후 수학 교과서 연구에 관련된 시사점을 제공하였다.
