  • In this study, we investigated whether there is a significant relationship between the natural radiation dose rate and the cancer incidences in Korea by using a big data analysis. The natural dose rate data for this analysis were the measurement data obtained from the 171 monitoring posts of the 113 administrative districts in Korea over the 10 years from 2007 to 2016. The relative cancer incidences for this analysis were the difference in the cancer patients per hundred thousand people year-on-year in the administrative districts with the five highest and the five lowest natural gamma dose rates each year over the same period. To analyze the correlation between the two variables, Spearman's rank correlation coefficient between the two rates was derived using R, a well-known big data analysis tool. The analysis showed that Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was more than 0.05 and that the correlation between the two variables was not statistically significant.

  • In this paper we applied pattern recognition approach to detect audio forgery. Classification of the microphone types and models can help determining the authenticity of the recordings. Canonical correlation analysis was applied to extract feature for microphone classification. We utilized the linear dependence between two near-silence regions. To utilize the advantage of multi-feature based canonical correlation analysis, we selected three commonly used features to capture the temporal and spectral characteristics. Using three different microphones, we tested the usefulness of multi-feature based characteristics of canonical correlation analysis and compared the results with single feature based method. The performance of classification rate was carried out using the backpropagation neural network. Experimental results show the promise of canonical correlation features for microphone classification.

  • In the present paper, various solutions for generalized canonical correlation analysis (GCCA) are considered depending on the criteria and constraints. For the comparisons of some characteristics of the solutions, we provide with certain unifying stationary equations which might to also useful to obtain various generalized canonical correlation analysis solutions. In addition, we suggest an approach for the generalized canonical correlation analysis by exploiting the concept of maximum eccentricity originally de-signed to test the internal independence structure. The solutions, including new one, are compared through unifying stationary equations and by using some numerical illustrations. A type of iterative procedure for the GCCA solutions is suggested and some numerical examples are provided to illustrate several GCCA methods.

  • Seawater intrusion in estuarine regions is an important issue in protecting groundwater against salinity increase as well as in protecting construction materials against corrosion. For example, drain water ejected during accelerated consolidation for the improvement of soft ground can cause damages to farm land because the drain water from seawater intrusion zones contains salinity. In this study, we have employed correlation analysis between resistivity value and salinity of in situ pore water. The correlation analysis indicates that resistivity and salinity are in exponential relationship with good correlation. Therefore we suggest that rapid estimation of spatial distribution of NaCl is possible using resistivity data.

  • Metal Transfer in gas metal arc (GMA) welding is a complex phenomenon affected by many parameters of the welding conditions and material properties. In this research, the correlation equation between the welding condition and detaching droplet size and detaching velocity in GMA welding was studied via recession analysis on the results of numerical analysis using the volume-of-fluid (VOF) method. Welding parameters and material properties were grouped into three dimensionless numbers and detaching droplet size was expressed as the function of them. Second order and exponential multi-variable correlation forms were assumed, and the coefficients of these equations were calculated for globular and spray modes as well as entire transfer modes. Applying correlation equation into available experimental data, it shows good agreement.

  • The purposes of this study was to conduct a correlational analysis among $F_^{0}$, Jitter, Shimmer, and NHR (HNR), and NNE estimated by three speech analysis softwares, MDVP, Praat and Dr. Speech. Thirty females and 15 males with normal voice participated in the study. We used Sound Forge 6.0 to record their voice. MDVP, Praat and Dr. Speech were used to measure the acoustic parameters. The Pearson correlation coefficient was determined through a statistical analysis. The results came out as follows: Firstly, there was a strong correlation between $F_^{0}$ and Shimmer of both instruments. However, there was no correlation between Jitter of both instruments. Secondly, Shimmer showed a stronger correlation with HNR, NHR, and NNE than Jitter. Therefore, Shimmer was considered to be more useful and sensitive parameter to identify dysphonic voice compared to jitter.

  • Simple correlation analysis, factor analysis, and multi-verite analysis have been performed to analyze the relationship between air pollution and meteorological factors for air pollution and meteorological data measured at Kwanghwamun in Seoul during the period of one year (January 1990" December 1990). As a result of simple correlation and factor analysis, $SO_2$, TSP and CO concentrations have shown high negative correlation with temperature and among these indicating that these are related with pollutants emission trend based upon heating fuel usage. Ozone has a good correlation with solar radiation and relative humidity to have a closed relation with $0_3$ generation reaction mechanism. The result of multi-variate correlation analysis shows that the concentration of $SO_2$ and CO are adequate for correlation model with ambient temperature and wind speed and 0$_{3}$ concentrations are adequate for that with solar radiation and wind speed. $SO_2$ and CO levels are considered to be affected first of all by heating fuel usage as a emission source and wind speed as a dispersion effect. The $SO_2$ concentration in the condition that the temperature fall below zero is explained by multiplicative model with wind speed, only one variable.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate and analyze Sumjin River Basin water environment system. It was necessary to improve the water quality. The data were collected from 2010 January to 2012 December including Water Temperature, pH, DO, EC, $BOD_5$, COD, TOC, SS, T-N, T-P. The data were used to study were required to; Correlation Analysis; Principle Component Analysis; Factor Analysis. The results were as followed. According to correlation analysis on $BOD_5$ against COD, TOC it revealed that the each value of correlation coefficient were 0.715 and 0.719; this means the strength of the relationship is strong. The same analysis on T-P against $BOD_5$, COD, TOC, SS has revealed that the range of the correlation coefficient value fell between 0.482 and 0.608 which means strength of the relationship between them remained normal. Through correlation analysis, it has been found that all elements except T-N have high correlation. The results of principal component analysis to target the overall water quality was extracted to three main components. The cumulative contribution rate is 68.990%. In the case of seasonal water quality, Spring and Summer are extracted to each of four main components. The cumulative contribution rate is 81.515% and 73.550% respectively. Fall and Winter are extracted to each of three main components. The cumulative contribution rate is 65.072% and 72.721% respectively. There is no seasonality in the case of factor analysis. The first common factor is $BOD_5$, COD, TOC, SS, T-P, which were classified. Totally speaking, Sumjin River Basin water system gets highly affected by the nutrient salts, organic matter and suspended solid at the same time.

  • Seismic fragility analysis of a structure is generally performed for the expected critical component of a structure. The seismic fragility analysis assumes that all the components behave independently in a structural system. A bridge system consists of many inter-connected components. Thus, for an accurate evaluation of the seismic fragility of a bridge, the seismic fragility analysis requires the composition of probabilities considering the correlation between structural components. This study presented a procedure to obtain the seismic fragility curve of a bridge system, considering the correlation between bridge components. Seismic fragility analysis was performed on a PSC bridge that is considered as the central infrastructure. The analysis results showed that the probability of the seismic fragility curve of the bridge system was higher than that of each bridge component.

  • We analyzed the correlation between breakdown voltage(BDV) of liquid nitrogen(LN2) and factors. The chosen factors affecting the breakdown are the diameter of electrode, gap length, temperature of LN2, and pressure of LN2. The BDV of LN2 was increased with increasing the diameter, the gap length and the pressure. And The BDV of LN2 was increased with decreasing the temperature. However, correlation coefficient was different from each other depending on the situation. The BDV exhibited a very high correlation coefficient of 0.92227 to dependence on the diameter. And a very high correlation coefficient of 0.94980 to dependence on the pressure under sphere(D 7.5 mm)-plane electrode. When the pressure is applied, sphere-plane electrode is the correlation coefficient was higher than that of the needle-plane electrode. It shows the dependence of a temperature coefficient of -0.758290 ~ -0.39946 under needle-plane electrode.
