  • A layout automation system for analog integrated circuits is proposed. The implemented system performs full-custom analog layout under the analog layout constraints. In order to overcome the demerits of conventional analog layout systems, parameterized module library is proposed. The system can support complex analog layout modules, resulting in a maximum expandability of the system. Moreover, modified dynamic multi-path algorithm is developed by enhancing the conventional Dijkstra algorithm. Several benchmark circuits such as comparator, op amp, and filter was tested by the system. Layout results compared to OPASYN show well-merging layout and interdigitized layout module.

  • This paper presents a design of 1-channel active dry electrode module for EEG from one's forehead. The IA(instrumentation amplifier) circuit inside the module is based on the configuration sown on the paper MettingVanRijn et al. We analyze the IA circuit to find out the related equation, and then compare its simulated characteristic with the result obtained from the real active dry electrode circuit. With the active dry electrode and the wet(Ag/AgCI) electrode connected to the separated analog processing module on one's forehead at the same time, their real time and FFT outputs of EEG are examined for comparison. The active dry electrode module has advantages over the wet electrode and its analog processing module: 1) The size of the analog processing circuit of the active dry electrode module is smaller than that of existing EEG analog processing module; 2) the total cost required to make the proposed analog processing circuit is much lower than that of the existing circuit, since the designed circuit needs smaller parts; 3) the electrical characteristic is comparable to the general EEG analog processing module even if the designed module has simpler circuit configuration.

  • The analog-based Ex-core Neutron Flux Monitoring System (ENFMS) in Korean Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) has been performing its intended functions successfully for a long time. On the other hand, the primary concern with the extended use of analog systems is the aging effect, such as mechanical failures, environmental degradation, and obsolescence. The transition to a digital-based Man-Machine Interface Systems (MMIS) in Korea and other countries has been accelerating, but some systems are still analog-based IC systems, such as the ENFMS in APR1400 NPPs. Digitalized ENFMS can become a reality using computers and microprocessors owing to the progress in digital electronics and information technology. This paper presents the result of the first phase of the research on the digitalization of the ENFMS signal processing electronics for NPPs operated or produced in Korea. It has two main parts: (1) review engineering bases of ex-core neutron flux monitoring system, including nuclear engineering, instrumentation techniques, and analog and digital signal processing techniques, and (2) analysis of analog signal processing electronics of ENFMS for OPR1000 and APR1400 power plants. They are prerequisite to the second phase of the research which is the detailed implementation of the digitalization.

  • A calibration-free analog neuron circuit is proposed as a viable alternative to the power hungry digital neuron in implementing a deep neural network. The conventional analog neuron requires calibrations because a voltage-mode link is used between the soma and the synapse, which results in significant uncertainty in terms of current mapping. In this work, a current-mode link is used to establish a robust link between the soma and the synapse against the variations in the process and interconnection impedances. The increased hardware owing to the adoption of the current-mode link is estimated to be manageable because the number of neurons in each layer of the neural network is typically bounded. To demonstrate the utility of the proposed analog neuron, a simple neural network with $4{\times}7{\times}3$ architecture has been designed for classifying iris flowers. The chip is now under fabrication in 0.35 mm CMOS technology. Thus, the proposed true current-mode analog neuron can be a practical option in realizing power-efficient neural networks for edge computing.

  • With the advent of new media richness of technology in the digital age has transformed our lives. The development of technology, the more our lives more convenient, new, future-oriented, while expectations for the digital age, people are longing for warm, human sensibility became. Of modernism and post-modernism appeared to reflect the proliferation of digital media in culture, wandering through the complex has been diversifying. In the digital age stabilizing psychological or mental needs of people who want to begin to emerge as the disfunctional aspects of the digital age has been suggested for the problem. To respond to human emotion on the emotional reaction of users to consider the analog emotional design began to emerge. The analog to digital media to express emotions practical approach to the problem should be attempted. Analog in a digital environment, emotional nature of the digital technology and communication, and symbolic and emotional aspects of people as announced to blend the new extension, change, and an analog emotional design for the evolution and development of new possibilities to investigate the castle.

  • NAD+ analogs, 8-( 6-aminohexyl) aminonicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and N6-[(6- aminohewl)-carbamoylmethyl]- NAD+, were imobilized on bovine caseins by the action of hansglutaminase. It appears that NAD+ analogs bind with $\alpha$S1-and $\beta$-caseins through formation of the r-glutamylamine bond between the amino groups attached to the hexyl chains in NAD+ analogs and the glutaminyl residues in caseins. The NAD+ analogs immobilized on the caseins were enzymatically reducible by alcohol dehydrogenase. $\beta$-Casein was more useful carrier than the $\alpha$S1-casein and 8-substituted NAD+ analog was more effective than N6-substituted one in immobilization. Michaelis constant of 8-substituted NAD+ analog immobilized on $\beta$-casein in alcohol dehydrogenase reaction was similar to that of free from of NAD+ and that of NAD+ analog. Immobilized NAD+ was much more stable at alkaline pH than free NAD+ and its analog while maximum velocity was reduced to 31% of the free NAD+ analog. The coenzyme casein conjugated was recovered almost completely in casein precipitated by calcium.

  • Digital gamma camera has many advantages over analog gamma camera. These include convenient quality control, easy calibration and operation, and possible image quantitation which results in improving diagnostic accuracies. The digital data can also be utilized for telemedicine and picture archiving and communication system. However, many hospitals still operate analog cameras and have difficult situation to replace them with digital cameras. We have studied a feasibility of digitalizing an analog gamma camera into a digital camera using Gamma-PF interface board. The physical characteristics that we have measured are spatial resolution, sensitivity, uniformity, and image contrast. The patient's data obtained for both analog and digital camera showed very similar image quality. The results suggest that it may be feasible to upgrade an analog camera into a digital gamma camera in clinical environments.

  • In this work, we have developed a systematic way of utilizing the basic design tools for superconductive electronics. This include WRSPICE, XIC, margin program, and L-meter. Since the high performance analog-to- digital converter can be built with Rapid Single Flux Quantum (RSFQ) logic circuits the development of superconductive analog-to-digital converter has attracted a lot of interests as one of the most prospective area of the application of Josephson Junction technology. One of the main advantages in using Rapid Single Flux Quantum logic in the analog-to-digital converter is the low voltage output from the Josephson junction switching, and hence the high resolution. To design an 1-bit analog-digital converter, first we have used XIC tool to compose a circuit schematic, and then studied the operational principle of the circuit with WRSPICE tool. Through this process, we obtained the proper circuit diagram of an 1-bit analog-digital converter circuit. Based on this circuit we performed margin calculations of the designed circuits and optimized circuit parameters. The optimized circuit was laid out as a mask drawing. Inductance values of the circuit layout were calculated with L-meter. Circuit inductors were adjusted according to these calculations and the final layout was obtained.
