  • This paper present an advanced fault diagnosis expert system to assist the operators at local control center. The system utilizes all th information available in a local control center for the better diagnostic performance. The major feature of the system is dealing with multiple faults diagnosis based on the certainty factor method for the reasoning process. the overall performance and the generality are also enhanced by utilizing the general topological knowledge. ASCADA simulator is also developed for he test and demonstration.

  • A layout design concept which suppress the substrate current generated during the switching transients of an CMOS inverter is presented. The amount of hot carriers and the peak value of substrate current can be reduced by changing the device geometry ratio of driver and load device of an CMOS inverter.

  • A wide variety of devices and systems exist whose main function is to generate an image. These devices and systems are used for many different purposes and find applications in many different walks of life. We are all very familiar with some of these systems such as the photographic camera (that can produce a permanent record of a scene on sensitized sheet material) and the television set (that can receive a suitably coded electromagnetic signal broadcast through space and convert it into an image). • We present an automated CMOS standard cell design mehtodology which generates a mask description in the CIF (Caltech Intermediate Form)from a user-given logic description and design rule. The resultant layout reflects the user's choice among N-well, P-well and twin-well process and user's decision whether the guard band is to be included or not. Noise margin of each cell was improved by carefully adjusting the channel width of P-FET.

  • Jang Heung Lim's is a nephew's wife of Kim Duk Ryung, who had been served as a general of Chosun dynasty. When her Tomb was removed to another places there were excavated some articles such as six Korean traditional costume, Korean socks, Korean shoes (Mituri) and so on. The unearthed costume was designated as a monentous folk materials, No.112, and placed on Gwangju folklore museum. At that time, the mending work in the lost part of costume was not implemented. Only an act of textile conservation was worked. In the article, we go through the mending principles and mending methods in damaged parts of costume. First, the mending principles on the damaged costume are as follows : (1) minimize the repaired parts, (2) mend the only damaged parts, (3) use the same color and cloth as that of original ones, (4) use the appropriated stitching method (5) act the fixed framework in case of missing a outer cloth. Second, the mending method related to the damaged part are as follows : (1) the repairing method in the bodice and sleeve part of costume, (2) the repairing method in the hem of steeve, (3) the repairing method in the collar of costume, (4) the repairing method in the armpit part of costume, (5) the repairing method in the connecting parts between one and another width of Korean traditional long skirt. With this article, we wish that the repairing method in the cultural costume will be developed scientifically and specified efficiently.

  • The KTX, running in Korea but imported from Alstom Co. in France, has folding type staircases complying with European standard EN 4752. However, when operating, the step size is only 200mm, while the Korean standard step size is 253mm, a standard reflecting the average value of persons aged 20~60. From the aspect of kinesiology, the current step size can cause falls or slips during embarking and disembarking of passengers because body load is mostly focused on the heel and the current step is much more narrow than the standard size. Thus, we have performed an analytical study to check the safety of folding type staircases on the KTX after re-design.

  • The composition of dissolved gases and nutrients in a liquid medium were determined for establishment of the optimum conditions for in vitro culture of Helicobacter pylori. A microaerobic condition facored by the organism was prepared by adjusting the partial pressure of the gas, agitation speed, and viscosity of the medium. The gaseous concentrations were controlled by utilizing CampyPak Plus that reduced oxygen while augmenting carbon dioxide. Agitation of the broth facilitated the oxygen transfer to the cells, yet inhibited the growth at high rates. An increase of viscosity in the medium repressed the culture although this variable was relatively insignificant. The chemical constituents of the liquid broth were examined to establish an economic model for H. pylori cultivation. The microbe required a neutral pH for optimum growth, and yet was also able to proliferate in an acidic condition, presumably by releasing the acidity-modulating enzyme, urease. Cyclodextrin and casamino acid were investigated as growth enhancers in place of serum, while yeast extract unexpectedly inhibited the cells. A low concentration of glucose, the unique carbon source for the organism, increased the cell density, yet high concentrations resulted in an adverse effect. Under optimally dissolved gas conditions, the cell concentration in brucella broth supplemented with serum substitutes and glucose reached $1.6{\times}10^8$ viable cells/ml which was approximately 50% higher than that obtained in the liquid medium added with only cyclodextrin or serum.

  • Swyer-James syndrome is a rare disease with patients presenting with unilateral hyperlucent lungs due to hypoplasia of the pulmonary artery and bronchiolitis obliterans. A unilateral hyperlucent lung generally develops after a lower respiratory tract infection during early childhood. In extremely rare cases, an association of bronchogenic carcinoma with Swyer-James syndrome has been reported. Here we report a case of bronchogenic squamous cell carcinoma associated with Swyer-James syndrome with a relevant literature review.

  • This paper deals with a 3-phase voltage disturbance generator for a performance test of custom power devices such as dynamic voltage restorers (DVR), dynamic uninterruptable power supplies (UPS), etc. The operating principle of the proposed circuit is described in each mode of voltage sag, swell, outage, and unbalance. The main components of the proposed disturbance generator are silicone controlled rectifier (SCR) thyristors, variable autotransformers, and transformers. Therefore, the disturbance generator can be implemented with a considerably low cost compared to the conventional pulse width modified (PWM) inverter and converter type generators. Furthermore, it has good features of high reliability with simple structure, high efficiency caused by no PWM switching of the SCR thyristors, and easy control with a wide variation range. To verify the validity of the proposed scheme, simulations and experiments are carried out.
