A proteinacious inhibitor with a molecular weight of 1,600 Da which inhibits S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent transmethylation reactions was purified from porcine liver to homogeneity by procedures including boiling, Sephadex G-25 column chromatography and repeated HPLC. Employing both Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Fast Atom Bombardment-Mass (FAB-Mass) spectroscopy, S-adenosylhomocysteine was conclusively identified as an integral part of the inhibitor. The purified S-adenosylhomocysteine was competitive with S-adenosyl-L-methionine with Ki value of $6.3{\times}10^{-6}$ M towards protein methylase II.

순암(順菴) 안정복(安鼎福)(1712~1791)은 역사학자로 널리 알려져 있지만, 향촌사회(鄕村社會) 전문가이기도 했다. 그는 중앙 정치권력에서 소외된 남인계(南人系) 학자였다. 유년과 청년시절 향촌 각처를 전전했고, 20대 중반 광주(廣州) 덕곡(德谷)에 정착한 뒤로는 관직 때문에 잠시 나간 것을 제외하고는 줄곧 이곳에 머물며 수양과 저술에 전념했다. 60대 후반 목천(木川) 현감(縣監)을 마지막으로 실직(實職)에서 물러났다. 이러한 불우한 환경은 그의 학문적 관심과 정치적 시선을 형이상학(形而上學)이 아닌 '형이하학(形而下學)'으로, 중앙이 아닌 '향촌'으로 향하게 했다. 그는 향촌을 가(家)와 국(國)을 매개하는 연결고리로 파악하고, 향촌을 기반으로 하여 인간의 기본 윤리와 일상생활에서의 예(禮)의 실천을 강조하는 유교공동체를 구상했다. 먼저, 그가 구상한 유교공동체는 향촌을 단위로 하는 지역공동체이다. 그는 향촌사회의 문제를 해결하기 위하여 교화(敎化)를 최우선의 과제로 삼고, 향약(鄕約)을 그 방안으로 제시했다. 자신의 향리에 동약(洞約)을 실시했고, 목천 현감 시절에는 향약(鄕約)을 시행했다. 이것은 사대부 중심의 향촌질서를 재구축하고자 한 의도로 파악된다. 그러나 이 향약은 상하(上下) 동참의 형태를 취하고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 민심(民心)에 대한 순응과 사대부의 솔선수범을 강조하고 일상생활에서의 윤리의 실천을 통해 구성원 간의 조화와 질서를 추구한다는 점에서 지역공동체적인 성격을 지닌다. 한편, 그는 향촌의 학문공동체를 기획했다. 그는 학교 진흥을 교화의 급선무로 인식하고, 서재(書齋)를 중심으로 향촌 자제들과 강학 활동을 전개했다. 여택재(麗澤齎)라는 서재(書齋)를 설치하여 "소학(小學)"을 강독했고, 70대 후반에는 "여씨향약(呂氏鄕約)"을 표준으로 하고 일상의 윤리와 독서법을 덧붙인 학약(學約)을 마련하여 시행했다. 이 학약은 뒤에 전라남도 나주의 미천서원(眉泉書院)에 적용되었다. 이는 강학과 명도(明道)의 중시, 독서와 실천의 일치를 강조하는 그의 학문관과 학문공동체 기획의 사회적 확장 가능성을 보여주는 사례라고 판단된다.

연구배경 : 전환성장인자-${\beta}1$(transforming growth factor-${\beta}1$: $TGF-{\beta}1$)은 폐 섬유화를 매개하는 주된 인자이지만 $TGF-{\beta}1$에 의한 폐 섬유화의 발생과 진행기전의 이해는 아직 불완전하다. $TGF-{\beta}1$은 다양한 세포에서 활성산소족(reactive oxygen species: ROS)을 통하여 세포내 신호를 전달하고 ${\alpha}$-smooth muscle actin (${\alpha}$-SMA)의 신생합성을 통하여 상피세포와 폐 섬유아세포를 근 섬유아세포 표현형으로의 변화를 유도하는 주된 인자이다. ROS는 또 다양한 세포에서 세포외기질 (extracellular matrix: ECM) 축적을 유발하는 것이 알려져 있음으로 본 연구에서는 폐 섬유아세포인 MRC-5 세포에서 $TGF-{\beta}1$이 ROS를 매개하여 fibronectin 분비와 ${\alpha}-SMA$ 표현의 증가에 관여하는지를 검색하였다. 방 법 : 성장이 동일화된 MRC-5 세포를 $TGF-{\beta}1$ (0.2-10ng/ml)으로 96 시간까지 자극하였고, 필요에 따라 항산화제인 N-acetylcysteine (NAC)이나 NADPH oxidase 억제제인 diphenyleniodonium (DPI)을 $TGF-{\beta}1$ 투여 1 시간 전부터 전처리하였다. Dichlorofluorescein (DCF)에 민감한 세포내 ROS는 FACS로, 분비된 fibronectin과 세포의 ${\alpha}-SMA$ 표현은 Western blot 분석으로 측정하였다. 결 과 : $TGF-{\beta}1$은 용량의존적으로 fibronectin 분비와 ${\alpha}-SMA$ 표현을 상향조절하였다. NAC와 DPI는 $TGF-{\beta}1$에 의한 fibronectin 분비 증가와 ${\alpha}-SMA$ 상향조절을 유의하게 억제하였다. $TGF-{\beta}1$에 의한 세포내 ROS의 증가도 NAC나 DPI에 의하여 유의하게 억제되었다. 결 론 : 본 연구의 결과는 폐 섬유아세포에서 NADPH oxidase 에 의하여 생산된 ROS가 $TGF-{\beta}1$에 의한 fibronectin 분비와 ${\alpha}-SMA$ 표현을 상향조절함으로써 폐 섬유화의 발생과 진행에 관여할 수 있음을 증명하였다.

Sequential observations of binding patterns and structural effects of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki were made on fat body tissue of the fall webworm, Hyphantria cunea Drury. Fat body was cultured in vitro in the presence of purified 62 kDa endotoxin and then examined for protein synthesis and the localization of membrane-bound toxin detected by an antibody against the 62 kDa endotoxin. Protein synthesis was mostly inhibited at concentrations of 15 ${\mu}$g/ml and higher. Immunocytochemical observations suggest that the toxin binds to all exposed basal lamina surrounding the fat body without apparent specificity. The cytopathic effect delectable by scanning electron microscope is disintegration rather than cell swelling. The basal lamina bound toxin was eventually detached from the fat body and followed by an extrusion of cell contents like lipid granules.

And the 121 main temples properties in Korea is researched for an effective fire suppression.

Modern society demands leaders who are trained with competence to not only approach knowledge but also create new knowledge by comprehensively understanding and applying it, and a leader with character and commitment to share one's ideas with others and be able to accept criticisms. In response to these societal changes, universities are increasingly adopting 'small group discussion-based classes with an attempt to develop and strengthen communication skills through reading, writing and speaking. This paper seeks to introduce a case of a math lecture, where discussion-based class was applied to mathematical education, requiring practical problem-solving through an argumentative thought process.

Purpose: This study was aimed at developing an efficient nursing method for the management of constipation by comparing the effects of abdominal meridian massage on the symptoms of constipation. Method: The subjects were determined by the Rome II criteria and the Constipation Assessment Scale from Aug 30 through Sep 26, 2002. They were randomly divided into two groups: one experimental group of 16, another control group of 15. Abdominal meridian massage was given to the experimental group and no massage was given to the control group. The frequency of defecation and severity of constipation by CAS were measured. The data was analyzed with the t-test, $x^2$-test, and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: There was a significant improvement in frequency of defecation, and severity of constipation in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Abdominal meridian massage can be considered an effective nursing method for the management of constipation among CVA patients.

In this paper we derive an integral formula on an (n + 3)-dimensional, compact, minimal contact three CR-submanifold M of (p-1) contact three CR-dimension immersed in a unit (4m+3)-sphere $S^{4m+3}$. Using this integral formula, we give a sufficient condition concerning the scalar curvature of M in order that such a submanifold M is to be a generalized Clifford torus.

In this paper we study (n + 1)-dimensional compact contact CR-submanifolds of (n - 1) contact CR-dimension immersed in an odd-dimensional unit sphere $S^{2m+1}$. Especially we provide necessary conditions in order for such a sub manifold to be the generalized Clifford surface $$S^{2n_1+1}(((2n_1+1)/(n+1))^{\frac{1}{2}})\;{\times}\;S^{2n_2+1}(((2n_2+1)/(n+1)^{\frac{1}{2}})$$ for some portion (n1, n2) of (n - 1)/2 in terms with sectional curvature.

Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) has been considered as a low grade tumor of adolescents and young adults. Although this tumor often shows cystic component, the hemorrhage within the cyst is extremely rare. The authors report a rare case of cystic PXA with a hemorrhage within the cyst and the mural nodule in the left frontal lobe. A 64-year-old male presented with a week history of the right side hemiparesis. After gross total resection of the tumor, the patient was fully recovered from neurological deficit. It is suggested that this typically benign tumor could be presented with hemorrhage, causing a rapid neurological deterioration. Prompt surgical intervention, especially total removal of the tumor can provide an excellent functional recovery.
